This Year's Analysis History Prior Year's Analysis History Aussie Cowboy Round: 11 Pick: 10 Last Updated: August 15th, 2008 at 01:08 Positives He posted some pretty good numbers last year when he took over as the Bucs starter. In 11 games he managed to throw for 2600+ yards and 20 TD's. The addition of rookies Carnell Williams and Alex Smith at TE can only help Griese and the Bucs offense. Michael Clayton is one of the best young WR's in the game and should only get better this year. Negatives He has to prove that last year wasn't a fluke as he has had an up and down career. Chris Simms is still lurking in the background and Gruden may turn to him if Griese falters early. Draft Strategy I never planned to draft three QB's but I couldn't pass on Griese when he fell to me at 11.10. I almost took him at 9.10 instead of Brees as I had the two ranked equally. He was the highest rankest player left on my list by far, and teaming him with Favre and Brees should give me a solid QB rotation. I also took into account that two of my division rivals only had one QB at this point, and I knew that taking Griese would further deplete the remaining QB pool. Negatives Never seems to put it all together for long. Poor O-line in front of him. Draft Strategy Searching for backups at this point, had several other QB's I wanted and watched them all drop in the 10 picks before me. With good receivers, he could go far. Negatives Doesn't have a great receiving corps, not mobile not an "elite" QB. Draft Strategy Needed a backup QB and he was a good value. I live just south of TB, so I wanted a Buc player to cheer for. (After all, I'll be watching most of their games!) Return to list of players
