QB Tony Romo

This Year's Analysis History

Prior Year's Analysis History
datacore

Positives
According to ESPN Dallas: Tony Romo has reportedly been "on fire" over the last five days at Cowboys training camp. Romo said earlier in camp that he's "throwing the ball as well as he ever had in his career," and he's tearing it up in scrimmages and practices. With two No. 1-caliber wide receivers and the best all-around tight end in football as his weapons, Romo is setup for a huge year." Here's a newsflash... Romo also has a PPR running back who's turning heads in camp with Felix Jones, so he'll get credit for those plays too.

Negatives
The collarbone injury that happened to him last year (and took way too long to heal) tells me that he may be getting to the point in a NFL QB's career where he's more susceptible to injury.

Draft Strategy
Missing on Vick and Rodgers earlier in the draft and with Gore, Moreno and R. White in my pocket, I knew it was now or never for Romo. I was hoping and praying that he wouldn't get drafted before this spot. He was the second of my QB's that are in the top tier left on the table and I knew Romo wouldn't fall all the way back to the fifth round. Click "Romo" select "Draft" drink "Guinness". Brilliant!

Positives
Top tier QB, last year before his injury(5 games) was on a tear with 10TDís and average of 313.2 yards . a full season of that and we are cooking with gas! We are talking potential 30TDís 4000+yards! Austin, Witten and F. Jones have all been drafted before him, everyone thinking the cowboys offense will score a lot? Who is running that offense? Romo is ;o)

Negatives
Collar bone injury last year, might show some rust early, especially with shortened offseason.

Draft Strategy
I am expecting a Run on QBís and Romo is in my 1st tier. I can wait on a backup now and fill up needs at #2b & backup RBís & backup receiverís.

Positives
Passed for over 4,000 yards each of the past 3 seasons. Addition of Dez and the offensive coordinator penchant for relying on the pass give Romo a legit shot to finish as the #1 QB this year.

Negatives
No "player" negatives; but, the O-line is a concern. If the line can't protect him, the numbers won't be as good as hoped.

Draft Strategy
Really was hoping for S. Smith (Car) or Welker to fall, but they went both picks before this one. I thought Romo would've been gone before this pick. Considered M. Schaub and D. Bowe.

mf

Positives
Should be good for 4,000 / 25. Good receivers w/ Austin, Dez, Witten. Ranked #10 overall (#4 QB) in this scoring system last year.

Negatives
Injuries are piling up on the offensive line. Also, I hate the Cowboys.

Draft Strategy
Had choice of Brady or Romo. Other possibilities at this spot was a top TE, Welker, or a RB like Moreno.

Bigtyrony

Positives
He probably has the best tandem of receivers in the league next to Green Bay IMO. He is consistent and now plays in a dome.He probably has the best tandem of receivers in the league next to Green Bay IMO. Negatives
Can't really put a peg on any real negaitives, I guess I am a Romosexual now.

Draft Strategy
I felt like late round 5 was a good time to pick one of the top notch QB's. Evidently I could have waited on him on the turn but Shaub was gone and I think Romo will have better passing numbers than Rivers this year looking at the schedule.

jesteva

Positives
With another year under his belt, I look for him to make further strides at cutting down on his tendency to commit turnovers. He has more than enough quality weapons at WR, TE and RB to increase his career average completion percentage in what whould be one of the top offenses in the NFL.

Negatives
Forcing ball into coverage resulting in INT's.

Draft Strategy
Wanted a "top 5" QB with high weekly upside in this scoring format and Romo fits nicely. Debated on taking Matt Schaub but believe that Romo offers less downside risk although I don't see that much difference between the 2.

tlandavazo

Positives
Should put up some decent numbers with a good supporting cast.

Negatives
May choke in the big game, but that won't affect Fantasy Numbers.

Draft Strategy
At 5.12, a great pick; has plenty of weapons and even though the Cowboys plan to run more, they will still throw it more than most teams.

dlwhawaii

Positives
Good bunch of WRs and pass catching RBs. Good OL.

Negatives

Draft Strategy
Thought that since I picked 1st I might try for a good RB, QB, and WR. Romo was available and he's the 3rd QB on my draft list. Go TO.

Davlar8

Positives
He has eveything a QB could ask for in WRs, TE and a running game that keeps defenses on the ropes.

Negatives
The only one I can think of is the possibility of a TO implosion. Don't see it happening though. Oh, and what's her name?

Draft Strategy
Picking at the turn, I knew there would be 2-3 QBs picked before it came around again. I couldn't bare another Bulger or Hasselback year.

Budman

Positives
Very solid #'s from last year; good offense around him, likely to put up strong yards and TD numbers. No real threats to his position.

Negatives
Limited body of work to project from; could be due for a slump.

Draft Strategy
Was really hoping for Kitna here, but he dropped one pick in front of me. Needed to get my QB1 on the roster. Romo is a solid option.

ludakris50

Positives
good receivers and running backs accurate confident

Negatives
inexperienced Offensive Coordinator Possible sophomore slump

Draft Strategy
I missed out on Bulger last round and my next highest rated QB was Phillip Rivers and I didn't think he'd be around next round. Sure enough, i would have been stuck w/ BRoth had I waited. I think Tony has a great head on his shoulders and will have a good year

sport.nut

Positives
After taking over for Bledsoe he was able to lead the team back into contention. Showed a lot of poise for a rookie and proved him self to be a solid QB capable of putting up good fantasy numbers.

Negatives
Only his 2nd year, really hasn't proven himself yet.

Draft Strategy
At this point QB's were flying off the board and the top tier were all gone. I felt Romo was the best option.

rockstarphil

Positives
Looked great once he took charge last season. Dallas looks to be strong again this year, and he has T.O. to throw to. Given any improvement this year, Romo will be very deserving of this draft position

Negatives
Still young, hasn't had a full season at the helm yet.

Draft Strategy
All the top QBs were gone at this point and my RB / WR starters were covered. I didn't really want to be grabbing QB yet, but also didn't want to get caught without a viable starter. Paired with a decent backup in rd 8 or 9, I think Romo should easily finish a top 10 QB to merit his selection at the end of round 6.

RatSlinger

Positives
Romo had a phenomenal 11 weeks of being the field captain and proved he was more than capable of filling those shoes. He has the benefit of an improved O-line and a returning set of WRs not to mention RB's who are ball hungry. A full season of Romo could result in Top 5 status for him by the end of the year.

Negatives
Untested for a full season. T.O. the Team Killer enters his 2nd season as a Cowboy after having succeeded in wearing out Parcells.

Draft Strategy
Romo is perfect for my team and I knew he would be gone if I waited another round for him.

mf

Positives
Looked good after he took over last year, has good receivers with TO, Glenn, and Witten. Should have a good running game to balance the offense.

Negatives
Inexperience

Draft Strategy
After passing on QBs in the last 2 rounds, and 17 picks before I'd get to choose my next player it was time to get a QB. Romo was the 9th QB selected in our draft, and that's about where I'd rate him. If I'd waited there would be 3 - 4 QBs selected and I'd be scraping the bottom of the barrel. Romo should be OK if paired with another QB picked in the next few rounds
