This Year's Analysis History Prior Year's Analysis History zodiak Round: 8 Pick: 2 Last Updated: June 20th, 2010 at 05:06 Positives A top 5 TE when healthy now having added a much better QB? Little debate in this one. Cooley is the reason I skipped the TE runs, he simply has too much to offer, especially in PPR. He, much like Rivers at QB, allows for comparable production at a two to three round discount. Negatives Coming off a leg injury and has to build chemistry with McNabb. People mention Fred Davis, but he is an afterthought. Draft Strategy Value, value, value. Cooley has that in spades. bshazzar Round: 10 Pick: 6 Last Updated: June 18th, 2010 at 04:06 Positives One of the most underrated TE's in the league who's playing in an offense with a history of highlighting TE's. Cooley knows how to get open in space, split the seems, or go long on you. Versatile TE, who's also being split out wide in this new offense. Negatives Coming off of injury and will have to fend off emerging Fred Davis for reps. Draft Strategy played the gamble game with waiting on him or Owen Daniels. Wanted Cooley more and ended up getting him. Wanted to get Fred Davis as insurance later in the draft, but someone snatched him up barely 2 rounds after I took Cooley. mark3 Round: 9 Pick: 4 Last Updated: June 8th, 2010 at 07:06 Positives Good value & good track record. Expect him in #1 TE roll & MCNabb should target him plenty. Negatives Coming off injury, playing in only seven games. Could lose playing tiome to Davis. Draft Strategy No surprise Cooley's here. There's no way I can take ZMiller(Oak) over CC. This basically sets my starters (minus Pk/Def). mrkkti Round: 6 Pick: 10 Last Updated: August 24th, 2008 at 10:08 Positives Cooley is coming off of three straight seasons with at least 730 receiving yards and six touchdowns. Last year he was worth 786 yards on 66 catches and a career high eight touchdowns. With the Redskins' new West Coast offense, he will have the same, if not better numbers. Negatives Last year he struggled towards the end of the season with only 109 yards receiving over the final three games, and to win the fantasy league, you need all of your players putting up points in those crucial weeks. Draft Strategy I was looking to fill my TE spot with a more than solid guy. I didn't want to spend a higher pick on one of the top three, and I couldn't pass on Cooley here in the 6th whom I had listed at #5 of all TEs. Ron_Anish Round: 5 Pick: 3 Last Updated: August 19th, 2008 at 12:08 Positives Cooley had a solid season for a TE last year catching 66 passes for 786 yards and 8 TDs. He had a stretch of games between weeks 11-14 where he caught at least five passes for 89 yards including a total of two TDs over the four weeks. As the 5th TE selected, you can't complain about that production. Negatives The west coast offense is being implemented in Washington this season which generally does not mean big things for TEs. He may be less of an option in the "normal" offense as owners will need to rely on his goal line presence to make up the difference. Draft Strategy I debated between Cooley, Dallas Clark, or grabbing another RB as insurance for McFadden with this pick. As it turned out, Dallas Clark didn't get selected until the 5th pick in round 7 so I may have jumped the gun with Cooley. If I could do it over, I'd pick another RB here and hold off on the TE for another round or two. DAFLCommish Round: 6 Pick: 11 Last Updated: August 18th, 2008 at 10:08 Positives Expected to be a top tier TE, was a main target last year. I expect Washington's offense to improve this year. Negatives QB is coming back from an injury. Draft Strategy I like my core RBs and WRs st thie point, lots of usable QBs left on the board. Thought I'd grab a top TE while he was still available to build up my starting lineup. Baron_Fel Round: 7 Pick: 5 Last Updated: August 17th, 2008 at 08:08 Positives Top 2 receiving option on his team. Very skilled TE, he should easily be in the top 5 TEs this year. I've heard good things about the new offense in Washington and about Cooley's part in it. Negatives Campbell as QB, but he's getting better. Draft Strategy With my RBs and WRs already solid at just three each, I'm not ready to look for a QB next, and Cooley was the very last of the top tier TEs left. So, the choice is easy, I get a TE that will be a solid performer all year. imyourhuckleberry Round: 8 Pick: 5 Last Updated: August 12th, 2007 at 12:08 Positives Is a young player that has improved every year. I believe he has caught at least 6 td's each of the last 3 years. He is in an offense that looks to the TE in a variety of ways, they run designed plays for him and he is a primary dumpoff or outlet target. Negatives The redskins are a run 1st team with quality rb's. They will not be looking to pass 1st or even 2nd for that matter. he is prone to having big games and then dissapearing for a game or two. Draft Strategy This was the 8th rnd. I didn't yet have a TE and Cooley was the best one left. I actually had passed on taking a TE earlier because I thought he would be there at this spot for me so I have been targeting him all along and got him in the position I wanted him. I'm actually very high on him this year. I think he has the chance to break out in a big way and it fits in with the philosophy I have followed in drafting this years team of taking somewhat risky but high upside guys and hoping enough of them pan out to make me a top team. Cooley fits the bill so i took him. Agenda42 Round: 6 Pick: 4 Last Updated: August 8th, 2007 at 05:08 Positives Three straight seasons of 6+ TDs. Has been a top 5 TE option the last two years, not many people have him on their radar. Young and still developing. Has had good success despite the dismal QB situation and lower target numbers than other high end TEs. Negatives Running game features two excellent backs who score prolifically. Not going to catch you long TDs. QB situation is still terrible. Draft Strategy With such anemic scoring for QBs and only 2 WRs starting, TE is a very valuable position in the shark leagues. You simply cannot afford to get caught without a quality TE, and waiting until next round would likely sweep the board of good options. doug_coutts Round: 7 Pick: 1 Last Updated: August 28th, 2006 at 12:08 Positives I have Cooley ranked just outside the top TEs, I see a monster year in store for him. Normally I wouldn't be taking a TE this early, but given the upside potential that exists here in my mind, I don't want to miss out on him. Cooley should not disappoint. Negatives Cooley won't be used in the same breath as guys like Gonzalez or Gates, and he hasn't proven over the long term that he can be a top TE. The Redskins offense can struggle at times as well. Draft Strategy Though I have been a big proponent of waiting on both TE and QB, I feel this is a perfect spot for Cooley. I have him ranked above many of the TEs that are already off the board so I'd rather not see someone 'accidentally' take him since he is next on their list. I see a monster season in store for Cooley. NSMapmaker Round: 9 Pick: 3 Last Updated: August 22nd, 2006 at 01:08 Positives Was the 2nd favorite receiver in Washington last season posting terrific numbers 103 targets/71 receptions/774 Yds/7 TDs .. There's a new Offensive Coordinator in town and he just happens to like to utilize the TE ... Saunders loved pounding the rock with Priest and then killin' ya with Gonzo ... well guess what with Portis and Cooley at his disposal I think the transition to the east coast will be an easy one for Mr Saunders. Negatives The Skins bolstered the WR corp with the addition of Randel El and Brandon Lloyd, but Gibbs has a history of liking to control the clock and the ball and keep things close to the vest as much as possible, I think the WR corp will see a little more verticality ... but I believe Saunders will continue to rely on Cooley as a high target receiver ... for a 9th round selection this could be a real steal! Draft Strategy If Cooley can equal last seasons numbers or even 90% of those numbers he could be the SOD in the Indian Whale Shark League! In this format last season Cooley was TE4 with 183 points scored, almost 11.5 points per week, great value if he can repeat! getdownmmmkay Round: 5 Pick: 6 Last Updated: August 22nd, 2006 at 09:08 Positives Is deceptively more talented than he appears when you watch him play. Has started to establish himself as an every week offensive threat. Is now playing in the Al Saunders offense which suits his skills and could make for elite (top 3) TE numbers this year. Negatives QB is almost as old as dirt. Portis' health could affect the running game and offense as a whole. New offensive scheme for the entire team, and learning curve could be a negative. Very tough division. Draft Strategy This may have been a slight reach, but Gates was gone and this was a player that I targeted this year as a breakout guy. Sometimes you have to go with a gut feeling and see if it works. If I'm right and he ends up putting up monster numbers, then my strategy of separating myself from the other teams at the less conventional positions gains some legitimacy. RatSlinger Round: 15 Pick: 3 Last Updated: August 21st, 2005 at 12:08 Positives Gibbs loves this guy as an H-Back in his offense. Any guy that Gibbs loves, will get his chances EVERY game. He showed last year he could score and pound the ball. Negatives He hit the rookie wall last year and got a little banged up. He has to keep up the pace for 16 games. Draft Strategy Excellent backup TE to Eric Johnson. If (or when) Johnson goes down this season, I will have no problem with Cooley as my #1. RatSlinger Round: 14 Pick: 6 Last Updated: August 21st, 2005 at 12:08 Positives See previous post. Negatives See previous post. Draft Strategy See previous post. Return to list of players
