For you history buffs, we will archive every article penned by the Shark Team in 2004. As each week is finished, we will move the content to this page so you can reminisce about the good old days ... like week 1.
What do we expect from this season? First, Vinnie goes from 2 starts to 5 stars. I wouldn’t mortgage the house, but 5 star plays usually hit around 80% or better. They are rare, so when they happen, be sure to jump on them.
Dear Bomb "The Bomb", Fantasy Football Staff Writer Sep 10, 2004
Draft day arrived and I was again reminded that, no matter what, I'll never be one of the guys! The announcement from our commish welcomed a girl to the league but then reasoned that I managed to win our league last year by picking the players with the nicest butts. Do you think he'd EVER say that about another guys team?
The Fantasy Football Season can be likened to a familiar trip that you have taken before through a dangerous but navigable harbor. However, this time you are the captain of this vessel and provisions are achieved through the creation of a crew in the form of a draft.Furthermore, your players could be considered conscripts that are usurped for the right to glom on to for their offensive prowess, with the exception of course being the defense. And yes, my friends, the defense may just win you a game.
This week has blown by me faster then Kobe out a courtroom. I have been responding to your emails by the dozens day in and day out then next thing I know its kick off time. Its time for some one hand grabs, juking linebackers out of their jock straps, and hits that leave quarterbacks looking out the ear hole of their helmets. Free at last, free at last, thank god oh mighty we are free at last.
Ridiculous. It’s ridiculous that the Colts complained to the league about the way the Patriots cornerback’s man handled their receivers in the post season last year and the league listened...

Hope you made your bankroll bigger during the preseason, if not, there is still time to reload at my sponsor, Sportsbetting.com and get an extra 10% before the season. But, after backing the Pats at 25-1 last year, I certainly don’t need to reload!
There will be good games every week, and every week which one is more important will depend a lot on who you root for. This week, however, our wait is over. This week every game is important, because it’s Game One. Next year is here, and never is optimism higher than at the beginning of the season.
Paul Joyce, who penned this column last year, said it best, and I quote - "There’s nothing like week one. It’s like waking up starving, then shaving, showering, waiting for your spouse/significant other to get ready, and finally making it to the Shoney’s all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet."

Unlike almost every one of our competitors, we don't ask for donations or charge membership fees. Nope it's all free to you! One thing we have done though is sell advertisements to sponsors, we've introduced some from front-end revenue generators like our Shark Leagues and we get some nickle and dimes from our back-end revenue generators from our partnerships. One of our back-end revenue generators is our partnership with Sportsbetting.com.
This list will include a handful of players at each skill position that has either a very favorable matchup or a matchup to avoid. Not every player at every skill position will be listed every week. Instead of a watered-down version of predicting each player's performance, this list will focus on a select group of players whose chances to succeed or fail are increased based on their opponent of the week.
Last season Brett Favre won the inaugural Ultimate Fantasy Quarterback competition. This year we are looking to switch it up a little. You get to vote each week and let your voice be heard.
Welcome to the Icebox. Sit back, grab a cold one and let's wax philosophic about football, fantasy or otherwise. I'd like to hear your stories...maybe write about them. Whaddya say?
You may have seen the challenge posted by Greg Kellogg in the forums stating his team will repeat as HAFAX champions in 2004. His team should be good again, but here’s why the Fantasy Sharks franchise will be better.
Ouch, none of Vinnie’s plays performed well last week, but hey, we’re just getting started.Luckily, a backdoor cover by the 49ers saved our weekend, but it’s good to get those crappy handicapping of games out of the way.
Week one is just too unpredictable.I say it every year and I will say it again. However this year, since I have other stuff to write about, I will not bore you with a whole paragraph on the subject. So this week, I will be talking about picking the right lineup and the results of week 1.
As usual, the Redskins were busy this off-season, handing out huge contracts to big-name free agents. The biggest story of the off-season was, of course, the Clinton Portis-Champ Bailey trade. But another key acquisition by this team, coach Joe Gibbs, was absolutely necessary in order to turn things around for Washington.

Week one had a lot of highlights from the usual suspects (Moss, Culpepper, Alexander, Holmes, T.O. and Green) but it was the unexpected suspects that created the most buzz in fantasyland.
Each week I will present facts and opinions on 2 Must Start Sleepers and honorable mention(s).The facts will be based on team and individual statistics from the current year and even trends from the past.
If you are like me, then you are a handsome genius. It also means you would rather play roulette with your fantasy defense than spend a valuable middle-round draft pick on one in August. So for those of you scouring the free agent pool for Week 2, here are four defenses you might find rising to the surface.
Ahman Green is a one man wrecking ball and the Packers look to be built to run him hard this season.Their offensive line man handled the Panthers Defensive line and that is no small feat since the Panthers D line is supposed to be the best in football.Stand up and take notice, Ahman Green if healthy, may make Jamal Lewis’s numbers last year look like child’s play...

BLAA! That pretty much sums up my week 1 exit out of the Fantasy Sharks Survivor League. It's like being the first person voted off the island in Survivor or booted out of the Big Brother house. Shameful, just shameful.
The Seadog Report Doug Gaskell, Fantasy Football Staff Writer Sep 16, 2004
Let's take a look at who some of the IDP "top dawgs" were in week #1
I wanted Tiki to do well because my boyfriend has him and I’m not playing against him… but then I figured out I was playing against him in my other league... so that meant he could do well but not too well…
Welcome to another year of the Start/Bench List.
The Pick 'Em Contest and Swim Contest are ready. We know some of you just found us or in some cases didn't enter your picks in time last week so we're going to change the rules a bit. We'll drop your worst 2 weeks in both contests. It'll give everyone a chance to ease into the season. Paddler may still have a chance in the Swim contest!
Also, you can still create a new group or join an existing group for the Pick 'Em Contest. Results for the entire year will still be calculated.

Ahhh...The first game of the season. A beautiful day all around, great weather and the Giants get killed by McNabb and Company. Section 209 of the Linc was a great place to witness the proceedings.
Week 1 had many outstanding performances within the Runningback ranks. But two backs were awful this week and are up for elimination from the competition. Vote now for who should be the first to go.
After a long anticipated wait, Week One has finally come and gone. The days of men wandering aimlessly in the house trying to avoid the dreaded “honey-do” list on Sundays and staring blankly at the TV is finally over.
Welcome to this week's discussion of hot waiver wire pickups. We'll be doing this column all year, but the early weeks usually end up being the most important.A hot pickup or two in the first week can really turn a mediocre squad into a contender!
Week 1 of the Pick 'Em Contest and Swim Contest are in the books. 5 tied atop the Pick 'Em Contest while salukis leads the Swim Contest. Paddler finishes 112 points back - in 332nd place. Ouch!
Week ONE in Review Doug Coutts, Fantasy Football Senior Staff Writer Sep 13, 2004
RBs performed, many of the mid-level RBs performed, and 4 TEs performed well enough to get a mention here. Hopefully you had more than a few of the players about to be mentioned in your starting lineup.
Ouch, another rough week, let’s hope this trend ends.I’d hate to have to sell my liver to pay my bookie.I’m down to only one kidney, and you can only give blood every 56 days. So, this week it’s life or death for me.
FantasySharks is pleased to announce we'll be starting a weekly Fantasy Football segment with Comcast cable and their CN8 network. We've teamed up with the Emmy award winning "Sports Pulse" show with Ed Berliner which is currently in the New England market with reach into the mid-Atlantic states. Tonight at 10pm Eastern watch our very own Doug Coutts start us off on our weekly rotation!

Thank you all for the e-mails. I will try to answer everyone in proper time. Did you follow the Week 1 advice and the 8 Steps To A Better Fantasy Football Starting Lineup? Let me know if they worked for you or not. Week 2 in the NFL has come and so has fall. I always ask this but…Where did the summer go?
At least six games top the list of games to watch this weekend including a train-wreck in the making at the Oakland Coliseum. Neither Baltimore at Cincinnati, Jacksonville at Tennesee nor Chicago at Minnesota made the cut, which leaves two doozies and a snooze fest.
Its only week 3 and most rosters look like they are in need of a M.A.S.H unit. Handcuff RB’s are turning into starters quicker then a cop can down a “bakers dozen”. Heck it may take some heart paddles to kick any of my three teams back to life.
Jacksonville Jaguars Paul Fountain, Fantasy Football Senior Staff Writer Sep 24, 2004
Teams will take a win any way they can get it in the NFL, but the Jaguars' offense has yet to produce 250 yards of total offense in a game. Obviously the defense is very good, and that can carry a team into the playoffs in today's NFL.
Each week I will present facts and opinions on 2 Must Start Sleepers and honorable mention(s).The facts will be based on team and individual statistics from the current year and even trends from the past.
Check out the latest Injury Report for week 3. Make sure to check back right up to game time on Sunday as this information will be updated a couple of times a day!
And the lead story in the NFL is the face off between Brett Favre and Peyton Manning in their 2nd ever meeting. Baaah! I say. It's disgusting this sensationalism just to try and sell you a football game so that advertisers line up around the corner. It's all a big marketing game people. Last time I checked, the QB's didn't compete against each other as they're not even on the field at the same time...

Monday Night Football. A marquee match-up...Moss' Mouth versus Owens' Mouth. A great win for the Eagles. The Last Row was there and got annoyed at only a few things this week...Plus, learn why you never want to be "Mom's Atticed" and the lost Horseman of the Apocalypse revealed.
Week 3 Ron Anish, Fantasy Football Senior Staff Writer Sep 22, 2004
Two big factors effect the Start/Bench list this week: injuries are running amuck and the bye weeks have started. Be sure to check your starters from top to bottom and keep an eye out for any waiver wire possibilities. Happy hunting!!
Week 2 Greg Allen, Fantasy Football Staff Writer Sep 22, 2004
Week One is in the books and your votes have been counted. Stephen Davis has been eliminated and is now watching from the bench as his future replacement runs the ball for the Panthers. In week 2 we have 2 nominees for your voting consideration.
The Pick 'Em Contest and Swim Contest are ready. Don't forget, we'll drop your worst 2 weeks in both contests. It'll give everyone a chance to ease into the season. Good luck!
Week 2 Jason Brichta, Fantasy Football Staff Writer Sep 21, 2004
The Birds and Vikes game on Monday night was billed by some to be a game for the ages based on the explosiveness and fireworks the experts expected to see. Moss always comes to play on MNF, and TO started the season with three TDs in the opening game. I think the only question was would either defense actually show up at the Metrodome?
Week 2 of the Pick 'Em Contest and Swim Contest are in the books. JT_the_BRICK went 13-3 in the Pick 'Em Contest and raven500 is the atop the leaderboard in the Swim Contest.
Week 3 Pickups Glenn Anderson, Fantasy Football Staff Writer Sep 20, 2004
We’re got plenty of hot picks on the waiver wire this week! There were loads of injuries to star players that create opportunity for guys you can get for nuttin’ right off the waiver wire.Let’s get right down to business.
I knew it wasn't a great team when the draft concluded, and as the summer wore on it became apparent that this team had the potential to be very bad.
Week TWO in Review Doug Coutts, Fantasy Football Senior Staff Writer Sep 20, 2004
Week 2 is almost in the books, and what a strange week that it was. Some of last week's strong fantasy performers disappeared as offenses in general around the league did not do well this week. There's still plenty of football to go, so if you're 0-2 out of the gate, DON'T DISPAIR and above all DON'T GIVE UP!!
Yawn. Is it me? Or is this one B-O-R-I-N-G Monday Night game. Yeah! There goes Jamal Lewis up the middle again. Oh, I think that was Jamal on a draw play. Oh goodie, that was Jamal on a trap. Holy crow Mabel! Did you see that? Jamal Lewis in a split back set just gained another 4.5 yards! Woo Hoo! Ain't Monday Night grand?

Excellent week, looks like I get to keep my liver, and I won’t be making any unexpected trips to the hospital for broken bones this week.Guess I don’t need to take advantage of the reload bonus at sportbetting.com since I kicked their ___ last week!!!
The FoxSports radio show is back! This season Ben Ice and Steve Bortstein mix it up and talk fantasy football covering the matchups and must start players of the weekend. Click HERE to listen to this weeks show.

Better late then never. Some scheduling conflicts almost forced me to skip this week all together but this die-hard fantasy fan refused to give up and I tackled your questions late into the night.Replying to emails and helping chum and sharks alike in the tank, I refuse to let my fellow sharks go belly up. Besides Sleep is for girly men.
The Virgin is alive and well. And, well, sheepishly you may notice that I have been escalated to Senior Staff Writer.I take this honor because my editor stated that this privilege may be bestowed upon me for my 50th article. My friends and fellow Fantasy Football aficionados, this is the Virgin’s 50th article.I have been here since the beginning in 2002 and will humbly serve you the Fantasy Football Fanatic ‘til the Virgin’s dyin’ days.

The Seadog Report this week has a slightly different look to it as we take a look at some of the IDP match-ups this week.
Week 4 Ron Anish, Fantasy Football Senior Staff Writer Sep 29, 2004
The injuries continue to mount and some big names are on a bye week this week, so beware. Would the proud owners of Roy Williams, Javon Walker, and Reggie Wayne please report to the front desk. Your package of rabbit's feet, four-leaf clovers and horseshoes has arrived.
Week 3 Greg Allen, Fantasy Football Staff Writer Sep 29, 2004
In week 3 we learned there are many ways to spell Deuce McAllister. But no matter how you think his name should be spelled, I spell it O-U-T as in out of the Ultimate Fantasy competition.
Bomb - Week 4 The Bomb, Fantasy Football Staff Writer Sep 29, 2004
I finally had my first week with wins in both leagues thanks to Rod Gardner! The bad news is that I have to miss softball because of a work obligation, so will miss out on the smack talk. Ugh.
The Pick 'Em Contest and Swim Contest are ready. Don't forget, we'll drop your worst 2 weeks in both contests. It'll give everyone a chance to ease into the season. Good luck!
Week 4 Jason Brichta, Fantasy Football Staff Writer Sep 28, 2004
You’ll be glad to hear I won’t be spewing any sentimental crap to begin this week’s column, but I do have some FF stuff to talk about. Let me preface by saying I have played fantasy for six years, and have three titles and one second place finish so I have seen a few things. This week, a bud of mine called me and told me something that I simply couldn’t believe.
Some ruminations on the fantasy football season so far. There are some surprises and a heck of a lot of injuries that have rattled more than a few fantasy rosters.
Week 3 of the Pick 'Em Contest and Swim Contest are in the books. Stan Yip and Pat Smith posted the best record this week. ricesue is tield with Pat for the best record. BigPete is atop the leaderboard posting the best score for the week (along with Orrie_104) and holding the overall lead.
Week 4 Pickups Glenn Anderson, Fantasy Football Staff Writer Sep 27, 2004
Could there possibly be even *more* star players injured this year? I'm sure many a fantasy football owner is looking at a roster that looks like a bad M*A*S*H rerun. But no fear...your hot waiver wire pickups are here!
Week Three In Review Doug Coutts, Fantasy Football Senior Staff Writer Sep 27, 2004
Week three is almost in the books and the upsets are starting to roll in. A good week from a fantasy perspective as many offenses had excellent days. Of course, there were a few offenses that did not perform well (even at all?)...
