Week 5

Vinnie's Pick$ and Pa$$es - Week 5
Vinnie, Caribbean Affiliate
Oct 5, 2007
Hope everyone took my picks to the bank last week, both games were EASY winners.   Isn’t it fun being on the right side from start to finish.   No need to even sweat the backdoor cover.

The Market
Mark Chamberlin, Fantasy Football Staff Writer
Oct 5, 2007
The Market offers its opinion on the stock's of The Edge, Ocho Cinco, DeShaun Foster, Santonio Holmes, and the younger component of the first QBBC the NFL has seen this decade. Sell high? Buy low? Hold? Take a step inside and see what we think you should do.

Games to Watch - Week 5
Chris Dolfi and Tom Braun, Fantasy Football Staff Writers
Oct 5, 2007
This week the guys look into the Simpson family tree, discuss film structure, use a mechanic's eye to survey some road damage, and warn you of the dangers of Q-tip usage.  Oh yeah, they also manage to identify the three games you don't want to miss this weekend, and fill your head with the knowledge you need to know when you sit down to watch them.

The Prognosticator - Week 5
Tony Holm, "The Prognosticator"
Oct 5, 2007
Travis Henry is likely done and the fantasy universe scrambles for Selvin Young, naturally, if you've been reading this column you already had Selvin Young on your roster and you immediately PayPal me $5 for that. Is Selvin Young the answer, maybe. He has first crack at it but the Broncos have a funny way of pulling some guy named John "Who the heck is that?" Doe and making him a 1,000 yard rusher. I still bank on Young first and Mike Bell second but the carousel may not stop there. It will be Selvin Young's job to lose and if he fumbles in the first quarter of this game, that could be all the chance he gets. Pray Young owners that he holds onto that ball. Please Selvin! Two hands at all times!!

Seadog's Week #5
Doug Gaskell, Fantasy Football Staff Writer
Oct 5, 2007
After watching Osi Umenyiora’s awesome IDP performance last week, I can’t help but feel for Eagle’s left tackle Winston Justice. Could they not give that guy a hand? I mean, come on, the guy was getting toasted on every single play – hello!

The Nuthouse - Week 5
Nick Pavlou, Fantasy Football Staff Writer

Travis Henry is not bright man... allegedly. If Phil Collins wrote a song about this season, it'd be titled "Land of Mediocrity."  Here are some quick picks as injuries have ravaged teams at all positions.

The Marty chants may have extended further than Qualcomm Stadium on Sunday. They could be heard from the bars and homes of Survivor Pool hopefuls that took San Diego in Week 4. If you can't trust a double-digit home favorite with the 2006 MVP in the backfield, who can you trust? Read about it here.

Week Five: Crossroads
Walter Collazo, Fantasy Football Staff Writer
Oct 4, 2007
I had a hard decision in week 4. I had to decide between starting Jon Kitna or Donovan McNabb in my first money league. Although McNabb has shaken off the rust, I could not bare and put him in the line up. Because you see, I am a die hard Giants fan. I was at a crossroads between my fantasy team and my favorite team.

It's that time of year again. The red cross appears on half your team and players like Earnest Graham, Selvin Young and Brian Leonard are suddenly guys you should have drafted. Fear not, there's enough depth out there to go around.  With the Cadillac in the garage, Earnest Graham is the hot commodity on the waiver wire this week and has a nice matchup against the Colts who couldn't stop Travis Henry last week.

Week Five Waiver Wire Pickups
Doug Coutts, Fantasy Football Senior Staff Writer

I'm going out on a limb here, but I feel that the Bears' Garrett Wolfe needs to be listed at the top of today's article so that you understand how serious I am about you picking this guy up. I'm not necessarily saying that he's the #1 guy to be picked up this week, but I am saying that should you get shut out of this week's "glamour list" in free agency, there are alternatives.

JL's Week Four Observations
John Lanfranca,
Oct 2, 2007
One quarter of this season has been completed and the only thing predictable about the NFL season so far is that it is always unpredictable. I will of course share my observations from Week 4 so that maybe we all will have a chance of predicting what will happen in the future.

Everyone writes that Larry Johnson is done. Well why is there a little orange box around his name? Many experts wrote that it would be a good idea to sit Larry against San Diego this last weekend. Well then all of you Zigged while Larry zagged resulting in another victorious week. Sometimes don’t pay attention to the man behind the curtain.

Osi makes the sack. Umenyiora takes down McNabb. Down goes the quarterback as #72 in blue makes the sack. It didn’t stop there, but I will. The Giants had twelve; I repeat twelve sacks in their Sunday Night domination of the Eagles..

The Worst Fantasy Season Ever
Lundy Blankenship, Fantasy Football Staff Writer
Oct 12, 2007
Have you ever come to a point in a fantasy season where you could care less? This has to be the most brutal, depressing, and boring fantasy season that I can remember. This season has made the Titanic seem like the Love Boat. With all the injuries and stars underperforming, it just feels like a rainy day at an amusement park.

Rats – That all I have to say about Cleveland/New England. We pushed, but we should have won. We were on the right side, we just couldn’t get the full win. So, we went 1-1-1 across the board last week. Oh well, better than a losing week, but I’m greedy, so let’s get a winning week 6.

The Hive - week 6

Welcome back to The Hive - game by game IDP analysis within! It’s a rough week for many between injuries and 6 teams being on a bye this week. We very well could be on the cusp of another Osi Umenyiora freakout on Monday Night Football, with Osi facing an undrafted rookie free agent tackle as the Giants take on the Falcons.

The Prognosticator - Week 6
Tony Holm, "The Prognosticator"
Oct 12, 2007
Are the Raiders good?  Or not?  At times they look decent but they have a number of problems to contend with.  They haven't really had a QB that can deliver the ball and their league leading per game rusher LaMont Jordan, looks like he will be contending with a back injury all season long.

Week Six: Bye Week Hell
Walter Collazo, Fantasy Football Staff Writer
Oct 10, 2007
Welcome to the Bye week hell. If you haven’t felt the bye week crunch, this may be the week you do. Between this week and another bye hell in week 8, a lot of owners are going to scramble to fill holes. Injuries are mounting faster then you can put in a waiver claim and it seems everyone wants to offer you a trade for the only healthy productive players you have. What should you do?

Start/Bench List Week 6
Ron Anish, Fantasy Football Senior Staff Writer
Oct 10, 2007
We're quickly approaching the halfway point of most fantasy seasons and by now you should have a good sense of what your team is all about. Consider the current slew of injuries as opportunities to jump on those replacements as fill-ins for bye weeks and starters that could carry you to the playoffs.

Old friend Jerry Porter makes the hot list this week. Though the Oakland wide out has only touched the ball seven times in four games, three of those times he ended up in the end zone. His three catch, 53 yard performance in week four saw him hit paydirt twice, it could be that he and Daunte Culpepper are making a connection. The Raiders have already had their bye week, Porter is a guy that you can consider picking up and putting right into your starting lineup to cover a bye week.

JL's Week Five Observations
John Lanfranca, Fantasy Football Staff Writer
Oct 9, 2007
In the craziest weekend of football thus far this season, my observations will hopefully bring sanity back to everyone. If you watched Monday Night Football, you might be wondering if there is anything else left to see in the sport of football. I tell you a little secret; just when you think you have seen it all, you haven't.

The Diary of a Fantasy Virgin, Week 5

Fantasy Football is great when you are leading on Sunday night. It gets better when you are leading and your opponent has no more players. But I tell you that it gets outright disconcerting when the Monday Night game starts out with two interceptions by Romo resulting in -4 points.

It seems like there are still some pretty good grabs to be had on the IDP waiver wires, at least in the various leagues that I’m involved in. In general, there’s some great points coming out of the CB position (more than I would have guessed) but LBs are starting to get pretty sparse.

The mark of a good, well-rounded fantasy team is surviving the bye weeks. It's one thing to be loaded with Peyton Manning, Willie Parker, and Roy Williams. It's another to get a win when all of your studs are sitting at home on Sunday afternoon. Depth is essential to success and you can never be too diligent about who you are carrying as your fourth string running back...

Week Seven: The Midway Point

After week seven you will have reached the midway point of the fantasy season. Most leagues play a 14 game schedule where weeks 15-17 are reserved for the playoffs. JL's Week Six Observations
John Lanfranca, Fantasy Football Staff Writer
Oct 16, 2007
As crazy as the NFL season has been thus far, things seemed like normal again during the week six games. Three running backs who just go by initials; LT, LJ and MJD all had performances that reminded us of 2006, while showing us what made them such high draft choices in the preseason. At the same time, it might be time to add another running back to the elite of the NFL, he also goes by just two initials, those are AP, as in Adrian Peterson.

The Prognosticator - Week 8
Tony Holm, "The Prognosticator"
Oct 26, 2007
On the Vikings side of the ball it doesn't take a genius to know that you beat them by stopping Adrian Peterson and that will start to wear on the rookie.  You still play him, he still has legs left and will run well, but this pounding will take its toll and we will start to see signs of that creeping in.  He is averaging 6.2 yards per carry, look for that to start to go down week to week starting here, but it's not quite time to pull the rip cord on the rook, we're targeting Week 11 or 12, unforunately Peterson is facing the Chargers next week and the Packers after that so things may get worse before they get better.  After a big game against Oakland, it may be then that we move him.  His matchups for your fantasy playoffs are against Washington, Chicago and Denver depending on when you play your playoffs, he'll have no gas in the tank and brutal match ups.  Use him to get you to the show, then trade him for the horses that will get you through the show.  It's that simple.

When The Real World Interferes With Fantasy Football
Lundy Blankenship, Fantasy Football Staff Writer
Oct 25, 2007
Sometimes in this real world, you just want to get away from what is known as life. There is nothing better than to take the edge off of the everyday stresses of what is the new grown up world. Unfortunately, you can’t always do that as real life can get in the way of fantasy football.

Week Eight: Bye Week Hell Part II
Walter Collazo, Fantasy Football Staff Writer
Oct 25, 2007
The light at the end of the tunnel is nearing. The dreaded 6 team byes are almost passed us. The injuries however, keep mounting and it seems to come at the worst times. It’s bad enough when you have key players on a bye such as T.O., Romo, Edge or the Ravens D this week, but if you had Ronnie Brown, David Garrard or Javon Walker, you now find yourself really short handed.

Week Eight Waiver Wire Pickups
Doug Coutts, Fantasy Football Senior Staff Writer
Oct 24, 2007
I'm not going to list him on the Smokin' Hot category, but if Ricky Williams is available in your league, especially in a dynasty league, you need to consider finding the roster space for him. The NFL is going to rule on his reinstatement very soon and it is possible that he could be available to play in two weeks. That's right, this could happen very quickly. And given what's just happened in Miami's backfield, I wonder if they might be inclined to put him on the field to see what he still might have left in the tank. If nothing else, it might push up his trade value so that the Dolphins can continue to stock pile draft picks for next year. That wouldn't be a bad idea.

Start/Bench List Week 8
Ron Anish, Fantasy Football Senior Staff Writer

Maybe Cam Cameron will have some luck recruiting some of England's finest rugby players to suit up and play defense for the Dolphins on Sunday. That still wouldn't stop me from starting Brandon Jacobs, but I'd like to see Eli Manning take a clean shot from a London bloke!
