The Ten Commandments
Ben Ice, Fantasy Football Staff Writer
Sep 6, 2007
Are you shark or chum? Tonight begins the shake out, and you would do well to follow the sage advice of the tank when deciding who to start and who to sit. Read on for a compilation of the Ten Commandments, created by sharks for sharks years ago yet appropriate still today.

The Ultimate Season Preview, “The Other Side” Style
Lundy Blankenship, Fantasy Football Staff Writer
Sep 6, 2007

ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL? I guess, I shouldn’t yell, but I am as excited as a fat kid in a candy store about the upcoming season, I am here to tell you. I am sure every one of you is itching to get this season started and ignore your significant other for six months. I know I am. There is no time to fool around, as I have a lot of stuff to get to. Besides, I do not write those kinds of columns. This is groundbreaking journalism right here. This will be the most important article you read this week. So, sit back, grab your hard whiskey (or café latte if you swing that way), and let Uncle Lundy give you the necessary knowledge to enjoy the upcoming football season.

Serpentine Drafts Are the Devil
Lundy Blankenship, Fantasy Football Staff Writer
Sep 3, 2007
I bet you are sitting in that chair, smoking that pipe, drinking that whiskey, thinking to yourself; I sure do miss Lundy’s articles. Some of you might be wondering where I have been.   Most of you are probably celebrating in the streets the fact that my incoherence will never make to a computer screen ever again.   Well, I am back, to terrorize fantasy sharks once again. And, I want to talk to you about the evils of serpentine drafting......

The Rookie Report
Paul Agruso, Fantasy Football Staff Writer

Greg Olsen has the tools to be an excellent tight end at the NFL level.   He has an excellent release off the offensive line, speed, and good route running. The combination of his size (6 foot 6 inches and 255 lbs) and 4.45/40 speed will present match up problems for opposing defenses. Olsen still needs to work on his blocking ability and consistency; however, he is primed for a big role in the Bears offense now and in the future. So far in training camp, Olsen has impressed the coaching staff until he was hurt in a preseason game.  Olsen is out 2-4 weeks but will be a good NFL TE in short order.

A Tale of Two Drafts
Doug Gaskell, Fantasy Football Staff Writer
Aug 29, 2007

I recently had the opportunity to participate in two drafts. One of them was for The Wall (FantasyShark’s own IDP-only league) and the other was for The League of Champions (a Sharktank league comprised of various champs from last season). Come follow along and see how an IDP guy fared in these two totally different drafts.

This Year's Brees, Colston, Jones-Drew...
Donny Walter, Fantasy Football Guest Writer
Aug 28, 2007

LT is the #1 back. That was easy. Peyton is the top QB. Duh. Gates is the best TE. Really? Chicago D is the #1 fantasy D. Wow. Anyone can write an article predicting this. But, what if you had a crystal ball, and could see that by the season's end, these guys were NOT at the top of each position? Who would be there? If someone were to upset the incumbent top performers at these and other positions, who might they be? Let's take a look at some not-so-far-fetched upset predictions:

2007 Draft Plan
Tony Holm, "The Prognosticator"
Aug 26, 2007
Every year the draft brings different possibilities. I do not prescribe to a particular draft theory because year over year, there isn't one that fits. You need to study the available talent each year, the ADP data to see where talent is going and then come up with strategies to draft a winning team. Some years it's vital to get a QB early on, some years not. Some years you can let RB's go a little since there'll be plenty later, some years you need to bulk up and open your draft RB-RB-RB to gain the biggest competitive advantage. This year is as strange a draft as I've seen in a long while because so much depends on which course you pick for yourself early.

Lab Test: The 3rd Year Wideout Breakout
Sean Vostinar (a.k.a. CleffedUp), Fantasy Football Staff Writer
Aug 22, 2007
It's draft time, which means the mathemagical voodoo is in high gear. Hopefully just in time for your draft, let’s take a look at the “3rd Year Wide Receiver Breakout Hypothesis” in this second installment of the stat lab. This is the idea that wideouts are generally primed for success after two years of pro experience under their belt due to comfort, rapport, pro-grade performance enhancers, whatever. For fantasy purposes, we’re looking for guys who bust out of the far end of the depth chart into at least fantasy relevance along with breakout time from their rookie season.

AFC East Preview
Mike Rumsey, Fantasy Football Senior Staff Writer
Aug 20, 2007
Onto the AFC East Player Projection analysis. J.P. Losman performed much better the second half of last season. He is a work in progress and should improve upon last years stats. He will probably be selected earlier than he should, we would like him more if he had another strong WR to go along with Evans. He’s been going in the later rounds of early fantasy drafts. Craig Nall is expected to back up Losman, but he hasn’t thrown a pass in a regular season NFL game since 2005. Trent Edwards was Buffalo's 3rd round selection in this years draft. Barring any significant injury he will be watching from the sideline.

A Conversation With a Fantasy Football Addict
Lundy Blankenship, Fantasy Football Staff Writer

We all have our vices.  Some of us drink too much, and some of us smoke too much.  Then, there are those folks who can’t get enough of our favorite hobby, fantasy football.  Recently, I had a chance to talk to the biggest fantasy addict I could find.  Let me tell you, this cat is the biggest loser in the universe.  How many Leagues do you have?  Ten, you say. Ha!  This gentleman is in, count 'em, ninety-nine leagues.  I can see your mouth wide open in a state of shock.  It is truly hard to believe.  But, here it is, in its unedited entirety:  The Conversion with the Fantasy Addict

What a shame…. RBBC. But if you MUST have a RB that has a star on his helmet, take Barber. I’m hearing he’s literally running over defenders in training camp. He’ll have just as many total yards as Julius Jones while getting you more touchdowns.

Camping in the West
Walter Collazo, Fantasy Football Staff Writer
Aug 7, 2007

Excerpt from an interview with Jim Armstrong, Columnist for the Denver Post

Travis Henry is the type of RB Mike Shanahan likes. A RB that’s between 225-230 and fits the system. There is concern that if he violates the policy again he will be out a year and leave a big hole in the running game. Ever since the Portis-Bailey trade the broncos have not been as good running the ball.   Mike Shanahan is very excited about Jay Cutler more so then he lets on. There is still a concern because Cutler has he only played in 5 games but he should have about 22-25 TD’s.

The Auction Nuthouse: Intriguing Rookies
Nick Pavlou, Fantasy Football Staff Writer

He runs like Ahman Green did when Green first became a Packer, and the only competition for Jackson is Vernand Morency. The same Vernand Morency who started one game in Houston last year because he couldn’t beat out Wali Lundy and Ron Dayne. The same Vernand Morency who just got hurt in training camp and will miss a couple of weeks. I envision this best-case scenario for Jackson: You get him for his AAV of $2 late in the draft, and he becomes Ladell Betts in November. The Packers’ schedule during the fantasy home stretch includes games against Kansas City and Detroit. Then in Weeks 14 and 15 – the season finales and playoffs for most leagues – the Pack plays at home vs. Oakland and at St. Louis. Not terrible defenses, but no reason Jackson couldn’t see 100 yards against either. This is something to keep an eye on.

From a fantasy perspective, Benson might be a better fit for this running game than Jones ever was and could post 1,300-1,400 yards and 10-12 touchdowns. Grossman is still too inconsistent to be a No. 1 QB at this point, although he can be a solid backup and occasional starter when facing weaker defenses. Berrian appears to be the safest bet in the receiving corps because of his big-play ability, although Muhammad is still technically the main target. Robbie Gould may not lead the NFC in scoring as he did last season, but he is still one of the best kickers available...

Due to injuries, coaching changes, moving to a new team, or any other numerous reasons, some players have an "off" season.  The drop in statistics is often viewed as a downward trend, and an indicator that the player will continue to produce less than expected fantasy stats.  This is a look at several players that had a drop in fantasy production over the last season or two, but have evidence that 2007 will be better - not worse.

Reverend Checo's 2007 All BUST Team
Paul Agruso, Fantasy Football Guest Writer
Jul 11, 2007

Every year in fantasy drafts, there are always players who under perform their average draft positions as they are overvalued by a majority of the fantasy players around the world.   It is my goal to compile a starting lineup of Duds who are destined to BUST up fantasy lineups in 2007.   My lineup will include 1 QB, 2 RBs, 2 WRs, and 1 TE as I usually don’t fully evaluate kickers and defenses production until close to the season   All of these players should be available to give yourself a truly miserable 2007 fantasy experience.

Time to put on your blinders because it’s about to get ugly…

Don’t Get Lost in the Coaching Carrousel
Paul Agruso, Fantasy Football Guest Writer
Jul 10, 2007
Every year, the offseason brings us a flurry of coaching changes across the NFL.   Each of these new head coaches brings their own philosophy and methods to their new teams.  Many fantasy owners dismiss these coaching changes as having a dramatic impact on the fantasy values of players in these changing situations; however, ignoring the impact of a new offensive philosophy or system can be a tragic error for even the most astute fantasy owner.

Believe it or not, I do not try to appease the fantasy gods, because, that is the silliest thing I have ever heard. I hope I have angered the fantasy gods and they strike me down with the brute force of 10,000 volts of losing electrical power.   While I wait for the lightening to strike me, I will continue to rack up championships.  It may not be an invisible man in the sky that seals my fate in many of my leagues, but you know what does; Karma.   If you take care of her, she will take care of you.
