Week 5 Brad Gillespie, Fantasy Football Staff Writer Oct 4, 2008
News and notes on the wide receivers around the league as well as favorable and unfavorable matchups.
Welcome back to The Hive! Why am I in such a good mood you ask? Well for one I didn't have to face James Harrison or Lamar Woodley in any of my IDP leagues this week! Many an IDP owner were destroyed by Silverback and The Wood this week. If you were one of the unlucky ones, it is time to pick yourself up, dust yourself off, put that bottle of scotch back behind the bar and get ready for week five!!
Let's start with the Lions. First, Yeah! Nothing personal against Matt Millen, he may be a great guy to hang out with and enjoy a platter of buffalo wings and some frosties but it's long passed time. Before you Lion's fans get too excited realize that there's no guarantee that the next phase is going to be any better.
Another week of my obvious and not so obvious observations of the NFL. While I claim to know some things, the reality is I know nothing so this information is to be used for entertainment purposes only.
Well, it was another rough week for survivor pool participants as Denver lost to Kansas City and the Cowboys were edged by the Redskins. You can never trust those divisional games. I'll stay away from them this week as I like the home teams in inter-divisional games. Check out my picks ...
There are some interesting matchups going on this week, and I’ll try to give a few good recommendations and strong plays for your lineup.
Games to Watch - Week 5 Chris Dolfi and Tom Braun, Fantasy Football Staff Writers Oct 3, 2008
In this week’s trio of can’t-miss games that you should do everything in your earthly power to watch, the guys bring us some of the NFL’s best meeting in some real clashes of the titans (and Titans). They also manage to clue you in on the way to write a Hollywood blockbuster, how to spot the clueless in a queue, and New Kids’ concert stops among other things. Heck, they even get our editor to give you the skinny on buffets.

With the first month of the fantasy football season in the books, Matt Wilson takes a look at the players who have surprised us the most and makes some predictions about their fantasy fortunes for the next four weeks.
Missing In Action Scott Pachman, Fantasy Football Staff Writer Oct 3, 2008
It’s concerning when anyone goes missing, but it’s downright scary when your fantasy stud disappears for the first month of the season. Here are some of the biggest disappearing acts in the first four weeks of the NFL season and some predictions on whether we’ll find them again soon.

This last week in the NFL has been pretty wild, but don't let it distract you from the second week of teams on the bye. Thankfully there are only four teams off, and you should be able to get through this week without the players that will be unavailible.
This week, I want to address those unlucky souls who’re now facing a series of must-win situations in their head-to-head leagues. You know who you are. You’re sitting at 0-4 and you’re looking to make major changes to your roster.
The guys are back for 2008 - running down the top 3 players at each position for the week, how they think they'll do this week, and the top headlines of the past week. It's a dose of fantasy info mixed with a dash of fun.
Fantasy points galore in week four as the Brett Favre/Laveranues Coles connection dominated the Cardinals. Who cares about six turnovers when you get 472 yards and two TDs from Kurt Warner trying to respond? You won't find as much fire power in the air this week, but there are some gems for running backs in week five despite the rash of injuries at the position.
Did Al Davis also get Voip and high-speed internet with his Cable bundle?
Does T.O. need to shut up? Can the Rams stop the madness?
Does LenDale White know he's not the only goaline back?
We examine all these in this edition of audibles.

One quarter of the season has either passed you by or made you stronger. I have definitely learned a lot thus far in 2008, and I am here to share my information with you. The year 2008 has been a roller coaster, and sometime taking a step back and looking at the big picture will help you decipher what will happen in the future.
I'm setting aside the Smokin Hot category this week, I just don't think there are any guys out there that are "must have" players this week. Sure, every league is different, but by and large, it was a quiet fantasy week for those guys that aren't already on a fantasy roster.

Week 6 Matchups Brad Gillespie, Fantasy Football Staff Writer Oct 11, 2008

Welcome back to another week of IDP action here at The Hive!! Hopefully those of you who faced Antoine Winfield on MNF are done crying about it, and hopefully those of you who started him are done celebrating. It's a whole new week, so let's take a look at some IDP matchups!
The fantasy weeks are flying by and this week set of bye weeks has more stars off then the previous two weeks. We will also take a look at the postion that as been killing most of us so far, the TE postion.
Even though Brees
threw two INTs last week, he still passed for over 300 yards and tossed
a TD. The Saints are leading the league in PaYDs with 325.8 per game.
They face a Raider team with more drama then Grey’s Anatomy. Many

You check the box score Tuesday morning and see your opponent's only remaining starter was held to 12 carries for 29 yards. Even though he added seven catches for 64 yards, you still should've pulled out the victory. Only you check your league's web site to find two touchdowns from punt returns spoiling your fantasy week. Not one, but two touchdowns on punt returns. Thanks Reggie Bush, my Tuesday morning breakfast quickly turned from steak and eggs into oatmeal and a granola bar.

T.J. Houshmandzadeh, WR, Bengals: As long as Carson Palmer is under center, you can feel free this start this Bengal WR week in and week out. Not so much for #85. Palmer consistently looks his way, especially in the red zone.
Al Davis, you cheap/paranoid madman, we love ya. So, Lane Kiffin was fired because you couldn’t put up with his ‘propaganda’ any longer. You hired the youngest coach in modern NFL history and expected him to turn a terrible team around in one year? Surely, you jest. Don’t look now, but the Dallas Cowboys could be heading for a major meltdown. Here are some signs of impending doom and advice on how you can prepare yourself for the rest of the fantasy season:
Are the Texans sporting a new look on offense? Will Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers be ready for his big showdown with Peyton and the Colts? we are talking about. Yes, one of the greatest to ever play the

I am going to be writing a series of articles detailing different strategies regarding handling one's team defense/special teams. I've always been of the belief that playing the waiver wire for the best matchup with an adequate defense is the optimal way to manage your team. I'd like to track this over an extended period of time and see if my belief is fact or myth. I'd not only like to do this for all of 2008 but future seasons too. Another exciting week in the NFL is in the books, as usual, it is time to turn to the waiver wire to see if we can find you some hidden gems. There will be some changes at the quarterback position for a couple of teams, so those of you needing to get someone that will actually be playing to cover a bye week are in luck. A couple running backs went down this week, too, that also creates some waiver opportunities. The tight end position continues to be a mystery. Can we find more than two or three consistent players at that position? Please?
Thus far in the 2008 season one of the most intriguing aspects has been the difficulty to separate the pretty good fantasy players from the elite. I will list the elite fantasy players and tell you a few more who I believe will become true studs within the next few weeks. Do not miss this ultra-informative article.

Much like a horse race sometimes, it's not always the way you start that defines your season. So which players are going to lead owners to fantasy championships down the stretch?
Frank Gore, Lee Evans, and Drew Brees have moved up to the top in your Saturday report from the Stat Lab in Who Sharks are Starting. This is decision-by-decision analysis of actual lineups ripped from the offical and community leagues here at FantasySharks.com to help you decide who to start.
I'm not sure if I've brought this up before but it bears repeating.
There are to my knowledge (and please correct me if I'm wrong) three

I understand the allure of acquiring your own players for the coaching

Who's going to carry the load in New England? Is Vikings tight end Visanthe Shiancoe destined for a good finish to the 2008 season? What's the latest status on Cardinals wideout Anquan Boldin? Why is Kerry Collins the key ingredient to the Titans smashing success? What kind of progress is Patriots quarterback Tom Brady making?

Well its that week again. Every year, we have to suffer through one week with no Sunday night NFL. I hate baseball. Maybe I will just go to bed at old people time that night. A deep, coma-like sleep is what baseball induces anyways, but if i go to sleep voluntarily I won't be as angry when I fall out.
Did you "settle" for Clinton Portis in any of your fantasy drafts? Since he currently leads the NFL in rushing, you're undoubtedly happy to have Portis on your fantasy team right now. Matt Wilson gives us his take on why Portis had become the Rodney Dangerfield of fantasy running backs in the last few years.
Vinnie's liking what he sees in a few of the home teams this week (including a divisional matchup), and even more so one of the road teams.
Cleveland@
Jacksonville (-6.5): T
he
one surprisingly stellar game against the New York Giants aside,
Cleveland has been one of the huge disappointments of 2008.
Jacksonville, meanwhile, has won three of its last four, on the legs of
Maurice Jones-Drew. The Dawgs are ill-equipped to slow down the human
pinball much. If Derek Anderson can come out firing with better
accuracy and less passes get dropped by Braylon Edwards & company,
maybe the final score in this one will be closer than I think. But I
like the Jags, here - and I mean a lot.

Several key offensive players are either returning from a bye week or get to watch the week eight action from the comfort of their living rooms. Be prepared to start as many Eagles, Redskins and Patriots as you can find this week as the stats will be plentiful.
A well-rested
Jones-Drew returns from a bye week after rushing for a season-high 125

Yes, Lawrence Maroney is gone for the season, but there are just too many guys to pick from. And just when you think you know the guy that will carry the load, he gets hurt, or the Patriots will go to the air with Kevin Faulk.
Forget that some analysts think that trading for
Roy was the wrong move. Forget about the writers think that he has to compete with Jason Witten, Marion Barber and Terrell Owens.
Roy is a tremendous talent and has the skills to be an elite receiver.
He will shine once getting a week or so to digest the playbook. Don't think of
Roy
as competing, because he is about to be a featured receiver. Owner
Jerry Jones is very vocal about getting back on track, and since
Williams isn't the problem consider him the solution.
The people who love the changing fall colors in New England but do not live in
New England have come to town. My invented word for this traveling troupe is leafles. They rent every car.

If you haven’t heard, Larry Johnson has a new book out appropriated-titled “LJ’s Guide to Picking up Chicks in a Nightclub." In all seriousness, a suspension might be looming for Larry "The Lover Boy” Johnson, and of course more importantly, there will be fantasy ramifications.

Kevin Smith, RB,
Detroit Lions:
First of all, temper your expectations since we are talking about a
Lion running back. However, this rookie, who looked like he lost the
job to Rudi Johnson, has looked the best in the
Detroit
backfield. He is better in the passing game and has had respectable
numbers the past three weeks. For a guy who looked like he could be
hitting the waiver wire with another potential bad performance after
the bye, he has turned into something somewhat valuable.
