Let's review how Vinnie's picks have panned out in 2009:
beat the odds in 8 of 12
beat the odds in 6 of 12
beat the odds in 5 of 7Slim pickin's this week, according to Vinnie. More underdogs of note than favorites, in his mind. Best of luck with your picks, and Happy Halloween. Jacksonville Jaguars @ Tennessee Titans (-3): Jacksonville routed its divisional rival nearly a month ago, a definitive game for David Garrard and Mike Sims-Walker. Tennessee is coming off a bye week, but so is Jacksonville. Interestingly, the Titans have won four of the past six games in this series - including the aforementioned 37-17 spanking in Week 4. This may be the game in which Vince Young makes his 2009 debut as the starting quarterback. Everybody appears to be healthy among the usual cast of Jaguars offensive players, though, including Maurice Jones-Drew. It would shock Vinnie if Jacksonville failed to win outright.
Gimme the Jaguars plus the points.Minnesota Vikings @ Green Bay Packers (-3): Vengeance was Brett Favre's in the Vikings 30-23 defeat of Green Bay in Week 4. Falling just short against Pittsburgh last week and anxious to pull well ahead in the NFC North standings, Minnesota will get the best Adrian Peterson and its defense have to offer. This is a "show me" type of game for the Packers, who have beaten Chicago in Week 1, lost to Cincinnati in Week 2, lost to Minnesota in Week 4, and otherwise beaten a handful of chumps. The hardest matchups factor for Vinnie to ignore is the Vikings pass rush versus Green Bay's suspect O-line.
Gimme the Vikings plus the points.
Houston Texans @ Buffalo Bills (+3.5): Houston has caught fire as of late, with Matt Schaub playing the way he has. The Bills, meanwhile, are highly unpredictable. As far as Vinnie can figure, the line for this game is affected by Andre Johnson's lung injury. The Texans are helped by what has been a decent run defense, the Bills inability to generate big plays passing downfield, and what appears to be a great matchup for Steve Slaton and its running game. Needless to say, Vinnie likes Houston to win by a healthy margin and remain in the thick of the AFC wildcard race.
Gimme the Texans minus the points. |
