Vinnie spacer
Against the Odds (2009) - Week 9

| More

A pair of home teams appeal most to Vinnie this week, followed by a road team that not many are counting on (going up against the undefeated Saints). Let's see if Vinnie can keep up his winning ways with the likes of these three picks.

Tennessee Titans @ San Francisco 49ers (-4): Jeff Fisher and his Titans got off the schnide last week, helped largely by another epic game from Chris Johnson. The 49ers have been formidable in run defense, meaning Tennessee's chances of winning in consecutive weeks revolve around Vince Young. And Vinnie's not buying Vince, now back in the role of starting quarterback, just yet. The San Francisco 49ers have lost four of their last five games and conscious of their tenuous position in the NFC West, will play as well as they possibly can in front of the home crowd this weekend. Alex Smith, Vernon Davis, Michael Crabtree (getting better by the week), and a healthier Frank Gore are looking forward to showing what they are capable of against a thus far unimpressive Titans defense.

Gimme the 49ers minus the points.

Washington Redskins @ Atlanta Falcons (-10): For winning a couple games early on and having names like Albert Haynesworth and Clinton Portis on the roster, there sure doesn't seem to be much separating the Redskins from the worst teams in the league. Meanwhile, the Atlanta Falcons have lost to the Patriots, Cowboys and Saints but have otherwise made a darn good accounting for themselves. Double-digit point spreads are always steep, but Vinnie sees Michael Turner and, perhaps to a lesser extent Matt Ryan, putting far too many points on the board than Washington can contend with.

Gimme the Falcons minus the points.

Carolina Panthers @ New Orleans Saints (-14): Undefeated Saints at home in the dome versus Jake Delhomme; no sweat right? That opportunistic New Orleans defense is basically in line for what, half a dozen turnovers? Not so fast, Vinnie says. He envisions DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart getting enough help from their defense to keep this game competitive throughout, preventing another lopsided victory for the New Orleans Saints. Drew Brees and Pierre Thomas - you guys have had your fun. Time to face a division opponent that has yet to throw in the towel, time to take it on the chin from a team that knows you well.

Gimme the Panthers plus the points.
