Games To Watch - Week 8

| More

And then there were two.  Only KC and Minnesota remain undefeated.  Minnesota survived a late Denver charge by none other than Danny Kanell, while KC beat Oakland by 1 foot.  In last week’s Top Shelf pick, we said that Tennessee would use its excellent run defense to win the game.  How about 20 rushing yards for Stephen Davis and 44 total rushing yards for Carolina?  Not too bad for a week that didn’t showcase any marquee match-ups.  This week has a similar appearance and that’s fine by me.  Hell, I’d rather watch Atlanta play Arizona than the Marlins play the Yankees…  Let’s take a look at which games will provide the excitement this week…

Top Shelf

Dallas at Tampa Bay                                   Sun. October 26 @ 1:00pm ET on Fox

Summary:  Rocky Balboa vs. Apollo Creed?  We’ll see about that…

Hot Tip:  Quincy Carter sure has come a long way.

I know, I know.  Don’t jump on the Dallas/Bill Parcells bandwagon yet.  Like everyone else, I keep waiting every week to see them come back down to Earth.  It hasn’t happened yet.  Maybe their schedule hasn’t been the toughest in the league but still…they’re 5-1.  Meanwhile, the almighty Super Bowl Champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers are 3-3.  What’s up with that?!  This will be the Cowboys’ first big challenge but the way the Bucs have been playing, this could be a really good game.

Also on Tap

NY Giants at Minnesota                              Sun. October 26 @ 1:00pm ET on Fox

Summary:  The Vikings are undefeated and the Giants… are their opponent this week.

Hot Tip: Tiki Barber will be the one to keep this game close.

The struggling Giants had some salt poured into their wounds last week when Brian Westbrook ran back a punt 84 yards for a touchdown with 1:34 left on the clock.  That punt return gave the Giants their 3rd loss in a row after they dominated most of the game.  This week, they’ll need everything to go their way in order to have a chance at taking down the high-powered Vikings.  The Vikings are running on all cylinders with a defense that’s playing almost as well as their offense.  The Giants always put up a good fight though, so this could easily become on of those great games.

Buffalo at Kansas City                                Sun. October 27 @ 8:30pm ET on ESPN

Summary:  Another struggling team takes on the other undefeated one.

Hot Tip: If Eric Moulds is still out, look for another strong performance from Josh Reed.

You just never know.  We knew that going into last week’s MNF game.  Everyone expected the Raiders to be good this year, but when they struggled so badly, everyone expected the high-flying Chiefs to wipe the field with them.  They even knocked out Rich Gannon but in the end, Marquis Tuiasosopo lead the Raiders to within 1 foot of tying the game with time running out.

On the other side of the field, the also struggling Bills come to KC riding the wave of two career performances by Travis Henry and Josh Reed.  They combined for 289 total yards and 3 touchdowns last week in a decisive win over the Washington Redskins.  Don’t count the Bills out just yet.  Instead, tune in Sunday night to check out some good, hard-hitting football, AFC style.
