Games to Watch - Week 7

| More

An overtime field goal in Carolina, a missed PAT in Seattle, and a game-winning field goal with no time showing on the clock decided last weeks picks for Games to Watch.  While I don’t think anything could possibly match this year’s bizarre MLB postseason, the NFL regular season continues to provide an unlimited supply of football excitement.  There’s no Sunday Night football on ESPN this week, but there’s still plenty of great football to catch on Sunday afternoon.  Let’s take a look at which games will provide the excitement this week…

Top Shelf

Tennessee at Carolina                                Sun. October 19 @ 1:00pm ET on CBS

Summary:  Two of the best teams that you’re just now starting to believe in.

Hot Tip:  Derrick Mason saw a lot of action last week.  Watch Justin McCareins get it this week.

Carolina needed that OT field goal to stay unbeaten last week against Indianapolis.  Tennessee put up 500 total yards on a career day by Steve McNair who had analysts around the country talking MVP in week 6.  These two teams are definitely for real.  Neither one is flashy but they are both know how to scratch and claw their way to victory.  Tennessee will count on its excellent run defense to make sure the Titans are the last man standing.

Also on Tap

Denver at Minnesota                                   Sun. October 19 @ 1:00pm ET on CBS

Summary:  Two of the best teams that you already knew about.

Hot Tip: I still like the job that Moe Williams has done this year replacing the injured Michael Bennett.

Minnesota comes of a bye week and Daunte Culpepper returns to the field while Denver continues to play without Jake Plummer.  The Broncos also have that #2 rated defense but they needed a last-second, 47 yard field goal from Jason Elam last week to get past the struggling Steelers.  I’m not sure what all of this adds up to, other than a game that you don’t want to miss…

Kansas City at Oakland                              Mon. October 20 @ 9:00pm ET on ABC

Summary:  Bitter division rivals face off on Monday Night…oh let's face it, the only reason this is in here is because we want to see Oakland take another beating on national television.

Hot Tip: If Priest Holmes is still available in your league, go ahead and pick him up.

It’s not KC’s fault that Oakland has fallen apart this year and it isn’t ABC’s fault either.  Who knows, this could end up being the best game of the week.  If nothing else, you’ll get to watch Rich Gannon boil over again.
