Is He P.T. Cruiser, P.T. Bruiser Or Just Plain P.T.?

With running backs Reggie Bush and Deuce McAllister both hampered by knee injuries – Bush has been officially ruled out for the rest of the season – running back Pierre Thomas has taken center stage in the New Orleans rushing attack, averaging 114.8 total yards and 1.6 total touchdowns per game during his last five outings. Thomas has a dream matchup in Week 16 against the horrible defense of the Motor City Kitties, a.k.a. the still winless Detroit Lions, and it’s hard to envision him not turning in another huge game for his fantasy owners. The Thomas-is-a-stud-in-2009 hoopla has even sparked a raging Internet debate about an appropriate nickname for him. Some like the moniker “P.T. Cruiser,” which obviously uses Thomas’ initials and a car that is manufactured by Chrysler. Others who are not fans of the vehicle consider that alias an insult and prefer the nickname “P.T. Bruiser.” How about just plain P.T.?

The P.T. High School and College Profile

Charles Pierre Thomas Jr., was born December 18, 1984, in Chicago, but he considers Lynwood, Illinois, his hometown. Driven by the dream of playing in the National Football League like his idol, Hall of Fame running back Barry Sanders, Thomas starred at running back for the Thornton Fractional South High School Rebels in Lansing, Illinois, amassing 5,522 rushing yards and 88 touchdowns during his career (1999-2003). Thomas rushed for a career-high 304 yards in a single game (2002) and notched 27 career 100-yard rushing games while topping the 200-yard rushing mark in 11 contests. He earned numerous top local and state honors, and was named a national Top 100 high school player by the Chicago Sun-Times during his senior year. Thomas accepted an offer to play for the University of Illinois Fighting Illini.
