PLAYER ANALYSIS: Josh Johnson, QB, Tampa Bay

JOSH JOHNSON, QB, TAMPA BAY

NFL EXPERIENCE:  4 years

COLLEGE: San Diego

DRAFTED:  5th round of 2008 draft (160th overall) by Tampa Bay

CURRENT SITUATION: Unrestricted free agent who has been the back-up quarterback to Josh Freeman the last three years. Johnson never got a chance to win the starting QB job as Tampa drafted Freeman in the 1st round one year after selecting Johnson. Johnson will be looking for a place where he can compete for the starting job and San Francisco just might be that place. Even though 49ers' head coach Jim Harbaugh continues to back Alex Smith as the starter he has stated that their will be an open competition for the starting QB job. Enter Josh Johnson. Johnson played for Harbaugh in college and threw for 43 TDs and only one interception his senior year. At the 2008 combine Johnson ran a 4.53 40-yard dash also making him a threat on the ground.

REDRAFT ADVICE: Should Johnson land in San Francisco he becomes a big-time sleeper. Johnson holds the FCS record for passing efficiency at 176.7 and after seeing what Harbaugh was able to do with Alex Smith last year a reunion with Harbaugh would make Johnson a minimum Top 12-15 quarterback should he win the starting QB job .

DYNASTY ADVICE: Johnson is an immediate pick-up and stash in the hopes of him landing with the 49ers. We will update his status once he signs.

VINCENT BROWN, WR, SAN DIEGO

NFL EXPERIENCE:  1 year

COLLEGE:  San Diego St.

DRAFTED:   3rd round of 2011 draft (82nd overall) by San Diego Chargers

CURRENT SITUATION: Brown just finished up his rookie campaign having hauled in 19 passes on 40 targets for 329 yards and two touchdowns.  Not much to get excited about there. But with news coming out of San Diego that the Chargers are willing to let stud wide receiver Vincent Jackson walk via free agency there could be an opening for Brown to step-up. Brown is considered a very good route runner with great hands. It's very possible the Chargers will look to bring in a wide receiver via free agency and/or the draft but Chargers' quarterback Phillip Rivers worked out with Brown prior to the 2011 season and was very impressed.

REDRAFT ADVICE: At this moment Brown is a mid/late round flyer with huge upside. Should the Chargers bring in a wide receiver via free agency look for Brown to fall off a lot of peoples' draft sheets thus becoming an even better value later in drafts.

DYNASTY ADVICE: If he's on your waiver wire he is a must pick-up! If not, try to get him as a throw-in to a larger deal or if his current owner is asleep at the wheel make your move.
