Quick hits and Observations for the week of August 25th

| More

With fantasy drafts going on fast and furious The Corner of Knowledge has no time for small talk so let's get right to some quick hits and observations.

Rashied Davis, Chi, WR – Listed as a starter on the Bears depth chart, Davis appears to have a rapport with new starting QB Kyle Orton. Davis is tied for the team lead this preseason with five receptions and two touchdowns. At this point I would consider Davis a late round pick at best in deeper leagues, but he is definitely someone who should be on your radar once the season begins.

Kevin Jones, Chi, RB – Jones is looking like he’s back to 100% healthy and should give rookie Matt Forte a run for the starting job as the season moves on. Forte is averaging 3.4 yards on 24 carries this preseason, so he is far from a lock to receive the majority of the carries.

Josh Morgan, SF, WR – Currently sitting fourth on the 49ers depth chart he leads the team 182 receiving yards on nine catches to go along with one score. Consider Morgan a late round sleeper at this point, but definitely keep him on your radar once the season starts.

Rashard Mendenhall, Pit, RB – Mendenhall ran well Saturday night against a tough Vikings defense, but he did lose two fumbles. One of the knocks on Mendenhall is that he swings the ball wildly when he runs leading to, you guessed it, fumbles. Mendenhall had not fumbled in 18 carries coming into Saturday night’s game where he fumbled twice in 15 carries. I don’t think I’d downgrade Mendenhall just yet, but it does have me concerned.

Zach Miller, Oak, TE - Miller leads the Raiders with six catches and one touchdown while compiling 64 receiving yards. JaMarcus Russell is going to be starting for the Raiders and Miller should be the main beneficiary of Russell's inexperience as he looks to unload the ball quickly. Miller's not a starter but will make for a nice TE2 or bye week fill in.

Eddie Royal, Den, WR - Royal is second on the Broncos with 80 receiving yards so far this preseason and with Brandon Marshall out the first 2 or 3 games of the regular season Jay Cutler is going to need someone to throw the ball to. Even though Royal is a rookie he has great quickness and elusiveness and has become a favorite of Cutler. He is currently the 58th receiver off the board, that is sooo wrong.

Robert Meachem, NO, WR - Meachem leads the Saints with nine receptions and 211 yards this preseason for 23.4 yards per catch. He's currently the 49the wide receiver being drafted, expect him to outperform his current draft position.

Kevin Walter, Hou, WR - Leads the Texans with 13 receptions, 166 yards and two touchdowns this preseason. He's currently the 63rd wide receiver being drafted. Even with a healthy Andre Johnson this is way too low for Walters, he will definitely outperform this draft position.

Chris Perry, Cin, RB - According to Bengals' coach Marvin Lewis if the season were to start today Perry would be the starter. This is the first time that Perry had been 100% healthy in his five years in the league and with an oft-injured Rudi Johnson, how ironic, as the starter, Perry has a chance to claim the starting RB job as his own. Perry has vaulted his way up the draft boards and is currently being selected as the 44th running back. Perry is no iron man and Kenny Watson is still in the picture so make sure to temper your expectations.

Rudi Johnson, Cin, RB - Rudi has yet to play this preseason and is currently being drafted as the 31st running back off the board. Jonathan Stewart, Kevin Smith and Chris Johnson are some of the running backs going after Rudi and that is just foolish. Pass on Rudi and let someone else worry about the impending RBBC in Cincy.

Ted Ginn, Jr., Mia, WR - Ginn has looked markedly better than last season and the addition of Chad Pennington was a blessing for the Dolphins #1 recevier. He's currently being drafted behind Devin Hester, but if I had to pick one KR/WR for my team it would be Ginn.
