Being that we’re roughly mid way through the NFL season, I thought it would be interesting to compile the current fantasy stats and put together some rankings. Granted, this will have NOTHING to do with future projections, it is purely based on an individual’s average fantasy points scored per game up to this point in the season. The first number listed will be the player’s average per game. The second is a number that is figured by VALUE BASED DRAFTING (VBD). For example, Philip Rivers is the top ranked QB in the league. He averages 19 points per game. The following is based on a 12-team league. The 12th ranked QB is Eli Manning, who averages 14 points per game. Therefore, Philip Riversh as a VBD rating of 5 (14-9). I’m sure most all of you have read upon this type of analysis. It basically means that it doesn’t really matter the quantity of points your player has. What’s more important is how many points you are outscoring your competition at the same position. You can go ahead and take the #1 K, I’ll be ok with the 12th best, being that there is only about a one point difference between the two.
Again, most all of you have experience with this; I justwanted to briefly go over it in case any of you are new to Value BasedDrafting.
The following rankings are based on a 12-team league, whichstarts the following:
1-QB
2-RB
3-WR
1-TE
1-K
1-D/ST
With there being 12 teams in the league, you’d simply multiplythe # of starters at each position by 12 and you’ll have your number of,what I’ll call, “starters”. You figure 12 teams, 3starters at the WR positions per team = list of top 36 WR’s. VBD iscalculated by that player’s average MINUS the lowest ranked “starter’s”average. Get it?
4 points per passing TD
1 for every 25 yards passing
6 points per rushing / receiving TD
1 for every 10 yards rushing / receiving
Standard 3 for field goal with a 2 point bonus for 50+yarders.
Defense/Special Teams:
1 point per sack
2 points per turnover
2 points – safety
6 points – TD
I’ll first list the rankings by position. Thenat the end will be all the positions compiled together and sorted based on VBD. Some pretty interesting stuff……

Top24 Running Backs
Top36 Wide Receivers
Top12 Tight Ends
