Seadog's IDP "Stud" List for 2007

| More

Howdy Sharkfans! This week I’m going to take a quick look back at the 2007 fantasy football season and give you my “Stud” list for the IDPs that performed the best for their respective positions this year.  Some of these guys have been around for a bit, some are just rookies, and some are a bit of a surprise.  (Rankings are based on scoring from The Wall – our IDP-only league)

Seadog’s 2007 “Stud” list

DTs

These DTs really had some great point production this season. Hopefully, you were one of the fortunate people to grab one of these guys.

1. Kelly Gregg BAL                 2006 rank - #4

2. Jovan Haye TB                    2006 rank - #?

3. Darnell Dockett ARI        2006 rank - #7

4. Mike Patterson PHI         2006 rank - #6

5. Pat Williams MIN            2006 rank - #23

I don’t know much about Haye as it was really his first year as a starter, but he certainly had some great stats. Excellent consistency with his points too. Kelly Gregg is one who has been around for a while and he seems to produce effectively every season. I think he’s a bit underrated.

DEs

In the up and down IDP world that DEs live in, these are the guys that came out on top for 2007.

1. Jared Allen KC                             2006 rank - #1

2. Trent Cole PHI                           2006 rank - #11

3. Jason Taylor MIA                     2006 rank - #2

4. Adewale Ogunleye CHI               2006 rank - #31

5. Patrick Kerney SEA                  2006 rank - #?

6. Kyle Vanden Bosch TEN           2006 rank - #14

7. Terrell Suggs BAL                    2006 rank - #10

8. Osi Umenyiora NYG                    2006 rank - #61

9. Kenyon Coleman NYJ              2006 rank - #65

10. Will Smith NO                        2006 rank - #17

Jared Allen didn’t play in the first two games of the season, and still he finished #1 – wow. Another interesting note is that the top-5 guys in this list all had a strong second half of the season for the most part.

LBs

A lot of young guns topping the IDP list of LBs here.

1. Patrick Willis SF                               2006 rank - #(R)

2. D.J. Williams DEN                        2006 rank - #71

3. DeMeco Ryans HOU                     2006 rank - #1

4. Nick Barnett GB                              2006 rank - #40

5. London Fletcher-Baker WAS       2006 rank - #2

6. Brian Urlacher CHI                       2006 rank - #8

7. Jon Beason CAR                           2006 rank - #(R)

8. Ray Lewis BAL                               2006 rank - #23

9. E.J. Henderson MIN                    2006 rank - #19

10. Michael Boley ATL                    2006 rank - #32

11. Barrett Ruud TB                2006 rank - #103

12. Ernie Sims DET                         2006 rank - #17

13. Kirk Morrison OAK                   2006 rank - #9

14. Gary Brackett IND                   2006 rank - #22

15. Will Witherspoon STL              2006 rank - #11

For the second straight year a rookie dominated the ranks of the LBs, and it’s amazing to see two rookies in the top 10. I thought Ruud and Williams would be good this year, but I never would have predicted them this high. Boley and Barnett surprised me as well.

CBs

There’s a huge turnover in the top-10 from 2006 to 2007. That’s kind of to be expected though in the land of CBs.

1. Leigh Bodden CLE                        2006 rank - #79

2. Marcus Trufant SEA                  2006 rank - #20

3. Nate Clements SF                     2006 rank - #11

4. Cortland Finnegan TEN                2006 rank - #26

5. Cedric Griffin MIN                    2006 rank - #50

6. Richard Marshall CAR              2006 rank - #5

7. Darrelle Revis NYJ                   2006 rank - #(R)

8. Kelvin Hayden IND                     2006 rank - #86

9. Terrance McGee BUF               2006 rank - #18

10. Ike Taylor PIT                       2006 rank - #34

Bodden at #1 kind of surprises me a little bit, but the Cleveland DBs definitely got picked on a lot this year. Revis is definitely one to keep an eye on and he should be gold next season. Marshall is greatly underrated as an IDP.

Safeties

Another group of young guys head up the top-10 for IDP safeties in 2007

1. Chris Harris CAR                          2006 rank - #61

2. Sammy Knight JAX                   2006 rank - #28

3. Sean Jones CLE                        2006 rank - #6

4. Roman Harper NO                        2006 rank - #85

5. Jermaine Phillips TB                2006 rank - #3

6. Atari Bigby GB                         2006 rank - #?

7. Michael Lewis SF                     2006 rank - #49

8. Gibril Wilson NYG           2006 rank - #8

9. Bob Sanders IND                      2006 rank - #87

10. Oshiomogho Atogwe STL      2006 rank - #13

Harris definitely came out of the woodwork to top this list. I have to say that I never would have guessed that Phillips would be a top-10 pick this season. As a matter of fact, I purposefully shied away from him because I didn’t think he’d repeat from last season. Oops! Gibril Wilson finished 8th despite having missed 3 games at one stretch during the season – he’s definitely all a top-10 pick should be….

Well, that’s a wrap of another Seadog Report. Thanks for joining me with a look at my “Stud” list. Obviously, there are a bunch of names that are worthy of “stud” category that I didn’t mention – I basically just compiled these lists from some of the stats from The Wall. There are definitely a few tried and true vets in these categories, but there are quite a few young guns throughout as well. It is kind of interesting. Anyways, look for another Seadog Report in the next couple of weeks as I try to switch gears and take a look ahead into the 2008 season - Thanks for reading!
