Those of you that held onto some of these fantasy “zombies” may be considering using their current trade value to bolster your roster or keeping them all together. But who will continue and who will fall off? Got a question, need some advice? You can email me (click here) anytime! Don’t forget to include the name of the town and state that you live in. Lots of trade questions on the board this week so lets take a look at some of ones I fielded.
Scottsdale, AZ: Hey Corey, things are going well with my team but I need some advice on a trade proposal I've been offered.
First here's my roster:
QB: Bulger - back up; T. Green RB: Alexander, J. Lewis - back ups; Barlow, M. Morris WR: Burress, Boldin - back ups; J. Morten, R. Wayne, R. Gardner
I've been offered L. Coles & Gannon for T. Green & R. Gardner
Should I feel good about my team and reject the offer or try to upgrade my WR corps with Coles? I'm not sure what the rest of his season will look like. The last few games have been not so good and Ramsey seems off. T. Green is a good back up for me and unless Bulger gets hurt I probably won't play him the rest of the year. Burress and Boldin should do well for me the rest of the way out.
Thanks for your advice.
Corey: Seems like you have answered your own question to me. Feel good about your team. Green is worth more then Gannon right now (pre-Monday night game notation) and Gardner and Coles are a wash seeing as they both have to deal with Ramsey’s current poor play. Gardner has actually gotten more looks in the last two-week then Coles anyway! There is no plus side for you in this trade.
Wisconsin: Need some advice for my third receiver. My current receiver core is R. Moss, R. Gardner, and Q. Morgan. Morgan hasn't done jack all year and I was wondering whether or not to pick up Jimmy Smith off the waivers and dropping the Q. It would be a move to back up Gardner if he has a tougher match up, as Moss will be in the lineup every week. Thanks for your input.
Corey: I like dropping Morgan for Jimmy Smith. Smith offers the Jags a much needed scoring threat at wide receiver and though I think his stats will be a bit erratic from week to week I do believe he offers more to your fantasy roster then Morgan.
East Peoria, IL: We start QB, WRx3, RBx2, TE, K, and Def. I am working a trade with another team and this is the situation.
My Roster QB - P. Manning, B. Favre, B. Johnson WR - H. Ward, P. Price, I. Hilliard, S. Moss, T. Brown, J. Porter RB - A. Green, C. Portis, G. Hearst
His Roster QB - T. Maddox, T. Couch, Q. Carter WR - T. Owens, D. Bennett, K. Johnson, C. Conway, B. Finneran RB - M. Pittman, A. Thomas, K. Faulk, C. Martin
SF and Denver are on bye the same week. That leaves me with 1 RB that week. Since I'm pretty good at QB, I am shopping them around seeing who will bite. This team is frustrated at QB and wants Favre or B. Johnson bad. I need to get a different backup RB instead of Hearst and want T. Owens. How can I work this to get TO?
Corey: Pitch him Brad Johnson for Terrell Owens straight up. It should not be a tough sell but remember this guy wants a QB bad. I would also point out Johnson's outstanding performance last week and Terrell Owens inconsistent play. Personally I wouldn't go after TO. I would go after Chad Johnson or Joe Horn. With either Johnson or Favre, you’re giving up too much.
(Note to reader: Ok…so I apparently blundered here as Brad Johnson came to San Francisco and proceed to fall apart and Terrell Owens came to life and made the Tampa Bay secondary look childish. At the time this advice was given it was sound but if you haven’t made the trade by now then it might be a tougher sell then before.)
San Antonio, TX: In our league we bid on free agents. My RB stable consists of R. Williams, F. Taylor, D. McAllister, & A. Zereoue. Would it be worth it to bid on M. Ship and drop Zereoue, or should I wait & see if Zereoue picks it up? Also, should I give up on J. Rice and go for someone like P. Warrick or K. McCardell? Luckily, l don't have to play either of these guys but if you think some of these free agents have better potential, then I would like to keep them out of my opponents hands. What do you think? (Besides that I need to get a life). Corey: I would give up on Rice at this point. I just don't see the Raiders pulling out of this freefall. I wouldn't bother wasting the time and money on Ship. Not because Ship isn't worth it or that Zereoue is going to suddenly produce but because your stable of RBs is solid and there is no point in picking up a back that won't sniff playing time on your roster. If your worried about someone else picking him up and threatening your league standings then go for it but if your not then just let Ship go.
Harrisonburg, VA: Thanks for all the advice you guys churn out at FantasySharks.com, it's awesome. I was offered Shaun Alexander and Darrell Jackson, but I would have to give up Joe Horn, William Green, and Lamar Gordon (I do own Faulk). Should I take the plunge or am I safer sticking by my handcuff and two decent players? Thanks.
Corey: My first reaction to the trade is to take it. Shaun Alexander is an outstanding running back and a great fantasy addition. Let's look at the stats. William Green has rushed the ball 128 times for 494 yards but has only one TD. Alexander has rushed the ball 35 times less then Green (93) but has only 98 yards less then Green (396). To top it off Alexander has 3 rushing TDs and 1 receiving TD. |
