The Hive - Week 8

The Hive – Week 8 edition

Welcome back to The Hive! All I can say about week 7 is OSI OSI OSI!! I was literally jumping up and down in my living room cheering Osi towards his TD, as I started him in my dynasty league. My kids think I am completely insane, but that is another topic altogether. Osi has truly made himself “Chief Osi” much like he predicted in the preseason. Though Jared Allen owners aren’t complaining either, you have to wonder how many points that guy would have in IDP if he hadn’t been suspended the 1st couple weeks of the season. Contract year theory comes through again! While Jared is on a bye contemplating his future millions this week, week 8 offers quite a few tasty matchups of its own, including Osi and the gang against a decimated Dolphins team. Let’s take a look at that game, along with the rest of the week 8 action!

How we rank `em!

Giddyup! – YEEEHAW!!

SINS! – solid if not spectacular

Hellno! – Get it? Got it? Good.

Indianapolis @ Carolina Sunday 10am PST

Indy

Giddyup! – Bob Sanders, Freddie Keiaho, Marlin Jackson

SINS! – Dwight Freeney, Gary Brackett

Hellno! – Robert Mathis

Carolina

Giddyup! – Jon Beason, Chris Harris, Chris Gamble

SINS! – Richard Marshall, Thomas Davis

Hellno! – Julius Peppers

Game notes: This is one of those supposed “trap games”, but with ol Vinnie at QB for the Panthers, I really don’t see the Colts slipping up in this one on their way to the game with the Pats. Start your usual suspects, but I would avoid Peppers this week. Yes he finally woke up recently, but the Colts don’t give up many sacks and they will likely double and triple team Peppers, as well as rolling Manning away from his side. Interesting note for Indy, Robert Mathis has fallen into a time share and is droppable in all IDP leagues.

Detroit @ Chicago Sunday 10am PST

Detroit

Giddyup! – Ernie Sims, Paris Lenon

SINS! – DeWayne White, Gerald Alexander, Fernando Bryant

Hellno! – Kenoy Kennedy, Kalimba Edwards

Chicago

Giddyup! – Lance Briggs, Mark Anderson, Charles Tillman

SINS! – Brian Urlacher, Adam Archuleta, Trumaine McBride

Hellno! – Nathan Vasher, Alex Brown

Game notes: Edwards is down for the Lions, other than that the usual IDP suspects are in play for Detroit . Expect White to continue his maddening inconsistency as well. For Chicago , its obvious Urlacher’s back is bothering him. Bad. When the word “arthritis” starts being tossed around that is ungood.

Pittsburgh @ Cincinnati Sunday 10am PST

Pittsburgh

Giddyup! – Ike Taylor, James Farrior

SINS! – James Harrison, Troy Polamalu

Hellno! – Ryan Clark

Cincy

Giddyup! – Madieu Williams, Landon Johnson

SINS! – Leon Hall, Justin Smith, Robert Geathers

Hellno! – Deltha O’Neal, Ahmad Brooks

Game notes: Ike Taylor always has pimp IDP numbers vs the Bengals. Period. For Cincy no one really excites me here outside of Madieu and Landon.

New York Giants vs Miami (in London ) Sunday 10am PST

New York

Giddyup! – Osi, Tuck, Strahan, Gibril, Aaron Ross, Kiwanuka

SINS! – Sam Madison, Kawicka Mitchell

Hellno! – No one you would normally consider

Miami

Giddyup! – Channing “The Genius” Crowder, Jason Taylor

SINS! – Cameron Worrell, Matt Roth

Hellno! – Zach Thomas, Joey Porter

Game notes: I’ve heard the “trap game” label applied to this game as well, but I just don’t see it. Start the entire Giants DE/LB/DB crew, especially in sack/turnover heavy leagues. The Dolphins are a demoralized team, and as a NFL fan I just hope they ship Jason Taylor to a team with a real shot at a ring in 2008. Maybe Zach Thomas too, who will be staying Stateside for this one.

Philadelphia @ Minnesota Sunday 10am PST

Philly

Giddyup! – Dawkins/Mikell (check the injury reports to see which one goes), Omar Gaither, Trent Cole

SINS! – Takeo Spikes

Hellno! – Javon Kearse

Minny

Giddyup! – Antoine Winfield, Cedric Griffin, EJ Henderson

SINS! – Darren Sharper, Ray Edwards

Hellno! – Marcus Maccauley

Game notes: If Dawkins is good to go I love him here, if he cant go then Mikell gives you another solid start. Trent Cole faces the side of the Minny line that has given up the most points, so start him in DL required leagues with confidence. For the Vikes I like the starting corners, Henderson and Sharper. That’s about it.

Cleveland @ St Louis Sunday 10am PST

Cleveland

Giddyup! – D’Qwell Jackson, Sean Jones, Leigh Bodden, Eric Wright

SINS! – Leon Williams, Kamerion Wimbley

Hellno! – Orpheous Roye

St Louis

Giddyup! – Tye Hill, Will Witherspoon

SINS! – Victor Adeyanju, Clifton Ryan

Hellno! – Leonard Little

Game notes: This should be a fun fantasy matchup on both sides of the ball. The CB’s for both teams will be quite busy. Note for the Rams that Little is out, and run stuffer Victor Adeyanju is starting in his place. He’d be a decent fill in in at DL if your league is tackle heavy, if your league is sack/turnover heavy look elsewhere.

Oakland @ Tennessee Sunday 10am PST

Oakland

Giddyup! – Thomas Howard, Kirk Morrison

SINS! – Michael Huff, Robert Thomas

Hellno! – Sam Williams

Tennessee

Giddyup! – Keith Bulluck, Kyle Vanden Bosch

SINS! – Nick Harper, Chris Hope

Hellno! – Fat Corey Simon

Game notes: This is likely going to be ugly for my boys, but at least I can enjoy their IDP success. Howard and Morrison should be huge vs Lendale. For the Titans everything is coming up roses for them right now. Fat, useless Corey Simon retires (I’m sure all the Titans fans want to thank your fat arse for the ONE tackle this season Chubb Rock! Way to go!) and it is looking like big Grady Jackson will be taking his place soon. Come up!

Buffalo @ New York Jets Sunday 1:05pm PST

Buffalo

Giddyup! – Angelo Crowell, Terrance McGee, Donte Whitner, Aaron Schobel

SINS! – Anthony Hargrove, Keith Ellison

Hellno! – Chris Kelsay, Jim Leonhard

New York

Giddyup! – Kerry Rhodes, David Harris, Kenyon Coleman

SINS! – Eric Barton, Abram Elam , Andre Dyson

Hellno! – Jonathan Vilma, Erik Coleman, Eric Smith, David Barrett

Game notes: For the Bills Kelsay is out and Leonhard isn’t ready this week either. For the Jets, David Harris takes over for Jonathan Vilma, who is now on IR with a knee injury. I like Harris to be an IDP sensation, and the fun starts this week. He is perfect for that defense and should rack up the tackles. Abram Elam has taken the SS job from Erik Coleman and Eric Smith. Keep an eye on this kid, he could be the Atari Bigby of the AFC. Barrett was demoted for Hank Poteat last week, that could continue this week so I wouldn’t mess with Barrett.

Houston @ San Diego Sunday 1:05pm PST

Houston

Giddyup! – Demeco Ryans, Morlon Greenwood

SINS! – CC Brown, Von Hutchins, Dunta Robinson, Mario Williams

Hellno! – Travis Johnson

San Diego

Giddyup! – Stephen Cooper, Shawne Merriman

SINS! – Chargers DB’s, Luis Castillo

Hellno! – Drayton Florence

Game notes: Ryans was huge for his owners last week, and is now the #1 LB in most formats. The matchup with LT should be huge for him and his LB mate Greenwood . For San Diego , this is an “up” week for Merriman IMO. Cooper looks good too.

Jacksonville @ Tampa Bay Sunday 1:05pm PST

Jacksonville

Giddyup! – Mike Peterson

SINS! – Daryl Smith, Reggie Nelson, John Henderson, Marcus Stroud

Hellno! – Clint Ingram

Tampa

Giddyup! – Derrick Brooks, Barrett Ruud, Jermaine Phillips

SINS! – Phillip Buchanan,   Cato June

Hellno! – Bucs DL’s

Game notes: This could be an extremely ugly game for the Jags with Garrard out. The Bucs will be looking for turnovers, and I think the Bucs LB’s will be seeing a lot of running plays this week. Nice bounceback game for Ruud.

Washington @ New England Sunday 1:15pm PST

Washington

Giddyup! – Sean Taylor, Rocky McIntosh, London Fletcher

SINS! – LaRon Landry, Carlos Rogers, Shawn Springs

Hellno! – Andre Carter

New England

Giddyup! – Ty Warren, Adalius Thomas

SINS! – Vince Wilfork, Asante Samuel, James Sanders

Hellno! – Richard Seymour, Eugene Wilson

Game notes: The Redskins IDP’s are about the only players on the whole team I would want to have to start this week. Sean Taylor has his chance to prove he is as good as he says he is vs Brady and the gang. For the Pats I like Warren and Thomas, and to a lesser extent Wilfork, against a depleted Washington OL.

New Orleans @ San Francisco Sunday 1:15pm PST

New Orleans

Giddyup! – Will Smith, Charles Grant, Roman Harper

SINS! – Scott Fujita, Josh Bullocks

Hellno! – Jason David

San Francisco

Giddyup! – Marques Douglas, Pat Willis, Nate Clements

SINS! – Brandon Moore, Derek Smith, Michael Lewis, Walt Harris

Hellno! – Hannibal Naives

Game notes: New Orleans will look to pressure Alex Smith in his first game back from injury, so I like Smith and Grant here. For the Niners Pat Willis is God. That is all.

Green Bay @ Denver Monday 5:30pm PST

Green Bay

Giddyup! – Atari Bigby, Nick Barnett, AJ Hawk, Aaron Kampman

SINS! – Charles Woodson, KGB

Hellno! – Al Harris

Denver

Giddyup! – DJ Williams

SINS! – Domnique Foxworth, Nick Ferguson, Ian Gold, Elvis Dumervil

Hellno! – Champ Bailey

Game notes:   I like the Packers D to assert themselves on national TV against a Broncos offense that will be without Javon Walker and could be without Travis Henry. For the Broncos DJ Williams really stepped up last week, I think the change in defensive scheme during the bye week really helped him.

That’s it for this week. Please excuse the abbreviated game notes, this was due to time constraints. Good luck this week, and on a personal note: GO DUCKS!!
