Welcome my fantasy brethren to another edition of The Prognosticator. May it flat out rock. Week 6 Fantasy Team Projections
Buffalo Bills at Detroit Lions Sunday 1:00p The Bills haven't really been all that impressive. Sure, they have a bright spot here and there but overall, eh. Lee Evans has been getting in the mix lately and he is one to keep an eye on. The Bills will be able to move the ball on the Lions by pressing buttons in the weakened secondary. The Lions will put the ball up on the Bills. Roy Williams, if he plays, makes a good start here. If not, look for Az-Zahir Akhim to once again get the 'Lions' share. Welcome back to The Progno Az, I may call you Az right? I was wondering if we'd ever see you again. Lions 23 Bills 20
Philadelphia Eagles at New Orleans Saints Sunday 1:00p There will be some left over emotion in the Dome but the Eagles brush that away. The Eagles will be clicking in all phases of their offense. They will be moving the ball on the ground and throwing up top almost at will. Donovan McNabb continues his impressive performance. Boy am I happy with my prediction that this was going to be a big year for McNabb and was way under valued in '06 fantasy drafts. Another good one for Donovan McNabb as Reggie Brown and L.J.Smith get in on the action. I know Donte Stallworth would like to play against his old team, I just don't think he'll be ready but if he does, play him. The Saints will fight the Eagles tooth and nail. They will have success in their running game but Drew Brees to Marques Colston is off the hook alive this Sunday. I'm not sure what that means, but it sounded a little cool. Just a little. Eagles 29 Saints 27
What a couple of defenses. The only problem for the Panthers is that I do here and now profess man love for the Ravens. Everyone talks about the Bears defense, myself included, but the Ravens could possibly be a little bit better and the world hasn't completely caught on yet. Let me make this easy for you Baltimore, put Musa Smith in. Give him the rock and the job. Then, then you may have something special, as come February, we watch a 3-0 Final in a Bears/Ravens SuperBowl. Ravens 24 Panthers 17
Now there's game film on Vince Young. Now there's a defense for Vince Young and expect the Redskins to employ it. I triple dog dare Young to throw into double coverage. That would be entertaining, but the Titans will actually gain some yards in the air with short dump passes, quick outs and slants. The Redskins are pretty efficient at stopping the run and the Titans running game will be slowed. I do expect Travis Henry to be the ball carrier until he does something to lose the job. The Washington Redskins, yes, the Sybil of the NFL. When the Redskins can get their running game going, everything opens for them and this is a game where running will come easy. Clinton Portis will begin the statistical onslaught and Ladell Betts will pick up a lot of scraps. Redskins 24 Titans 14
Maybe it's me but the Giants don't seem to be run based anymore. They've opened up the offense a little more for Eli Manning and Tiki Barber statistically has and will continue to suffer. If you can get a top tier RB from the guy that loves Tiki, do it. A nice day for Plaxico Burress and maybe even Amani Toomer. The Falcons like to run and run they will. Look for a big day from both Warrick Dunn and Jerrious Norwood as the Falcons break out the battering ram and keep the ball on the carpet. Falcons 23 Giants 21
I really like the Buccaneers in this. The Bengals will be fine, they will expose the Buccaneers run defense for what it is as Rudi Johnson checks in with a solid performance to the expense of the passing game. Temper your enthusiasm for your Bengals receivers and there may be better plays than Carson Palmer this week. The Bucs are going to play hard and well. Brad Gradkowski will continue to play poised and well but something worries me. This from his NFLPLAYERS bio:
I don't know, that doesn't leave me with a warm fuzzy about his tenacity and leadership skills. Weeeeee! Is that the ice cream truck? Bengals 28 Buccaneers 19
The Seahawks will play a solid and balanced game of football. They will run Maurice Morris enough to make him an OK spot start if you need bye week help. They will work it up top to whomever continuously draws the favorable matchup in the secondary. They want to get Deion Branch more involved and will have a couple plays just for him. The Seahawks, somewhat quietly, are able to stop the run and Steven Jackson will be running uphill most of the day. Where the Rams will shine however is in the air as Marc Bulger continues his impressive start to the season and Torry Holt hauls in a couple. Rams 27 Seahawks 21
I almost picked Ron Dayne up off waivers today until my sense grabbed a hold of me. It is somewhat sad that there's a RB out there getting 20 carries a game that no one wants, including me. The Texans have David Carr to Andre Johnson and you can expect to see some of that on Sunday. The Cowboys are going to run all over the Texans and Terrell Owens is going to light up the sky against them. He will make his presence known this week. Cowboys 37 Texans 20
There is actually some decent talent here and there on the Dolphins, they just don't have enough of it. The Dolphins offense will move fairly efficiently through the Jets D. Wes Welker brings an interesting dimension to their offense and if used properly could help spring things open for the rest. The Dolphins will be the better fantasy team, the Jets will be the better NFL team as they spread the ball around to a number of different people and win one for the home crowd. Jets 23 Dolphins 17
LaDainian Tomlinson will get his, and then Michael Turner will get his. Expect a lot of both of them. The 49'ers are going to battle the Chargers with all that they have and will come ready to play. I prefer Frank Gore in this to anything in the passing game as the Chargers will bring many a blitz package. 49'ers play them tough but the Chargers are just too good. Chargers 30 49'ers 27
The Chiefs aren't a great football team but they can be dangerous in certain situations. The Steelers can hold the run and they will be able to contain the Chiefs offensive line from making too many big holes. Larry Johnson will get his (check injury report) but he won't bust any open for long runs. Damon Huard has been playing fairly well recently and guys like Samie Parker all of a sudden get put back on the long distance radar screen. As I said last week, The Steelers are in trouble and things go from bad to worse for them. There is no spark in the passing game and the Steelers won't get back to what they were without drum roll please-, Charlie Batch at the helm. Chiefs 23 Steelers 20
I know the Raiders stink. I know they're a joke and I know you have all your Raiders benched. I know the Broncos looked so darn good. I added the Broncos D to some of my teams this week as they impressed me so. I know all that but there are some other factors at work here. This is a Broncos/Raiders game and all that you think you know about both teams, you check at the door. Reset everything, man them up one for one and then make your decision. For me, it will come down to both running games as that is how to keep a game physical. The Broncos will pound it up the middle with Tatum Bell for solid gains and the Raiders will counter with LaMont Jordan for also solid gains. Stay away from both passing games, especially the Broncos. All you Javon Walker owners are going to have to be careful with him this week. Broncos 20 Raiders 17
Bernard Berrian, scratch it in now as Rex Grossman puts on a Brett Favre'esque Monday Night performance. Yes, Thomas Jones makes a solid start but you want to be sure to have your Bears receivers, including Mushin Muhammad, in your lineup. The only way Edgerrin James gets involved is in the passing game. The Cardinals should simply abandon the run before the game even starts and just throw the ball. It will be tough going for the Cardinals but they will get the occasional strike to Anquan Boldin. Bears 35 Cardinals 20 |
