Welcome everyone to the twelfth regular season installment to the Rookie Report. In case you missed the report earlier this season, the report will cover topics, trends and a game by game analysis of notable performances by the NFL’s 2007 Rookie Class to assist in your pursuit of dynasty championship gold. With numerous different happenings occurring this week, this week’s report will provide a recap of rookie related news and offer analysis into each situation. So sit back, but don’t get too comfortable because here we go with our twelfth regular season week’s installment of this report.…
RB Adrian Peterson – Minnesota Vikings
Adrian Peterson injured his knee in last week’s game versus the Packers.According to Dr. Andrews, Peterson suffered a Grade 2 sprain/tear of his LCL tendon in his knee, and that his status will be evaluated on a week-to-week basis. Peterson returned to the practice field with a brace on the knee, which is a good sign for him returning to the field sooner than expected; however, he is still unlikely for him to play before Week 13 at the earliest and he must be cleared medically by Dr. Andrews before returning to game action. Peterson was upgraded to questionable late in the week, and Vike’s management indicates he could play if this were a playoff game in Week 12. RB Marshawn Lynch – Buffalo Bills Marshawn Lynch suffered a sprained ankle in last week’s game, and he missed the Week 11 matchup versus the Patriots. According to Coach Dick Jauron, due to the nature of the sprain, Lynch could miss multiple weeks of action. In Week 12, the diagnosis on Lynch’s ankle was that it is in fact the dreaded high ankle sprain. This likely could keep Lynch out for up to a month depending on the severity, and fantasy owners will continue to have to monitor the situation. RB Kolby Smith – Kansas City With Larry Johnson potentially being out for the season and backup Priest Holmes retiring this week due to a neck injury, RB Kolby Smith finds himself as the only healthy running back active on the Chiefs roster before Week 12 started. Smith has an excellent opportunity to handle the entire running load in a Herm Edwards offense that is focused on establishing the running game.Despite this opportunity, one must temper their enthusiasm on Smith based on his performance in the preseason and the regular season before this week. In the preseason, Smith averaged a putrid 3.5 yards per carry, while in the regular season, Smith has averaged 1.9 yards per carry in limited carries. Kolby Smith performed well against the Raiders in Week 12 to begin his tenure as the starting running back and no competition in the near term. QB John Beck – Miami Dolphins QB John Beck made his first start in a Dolphins uniform this Sunday, and is expected to start the remainder of 2007. Beck struggled against Philadelphia in windy conditions only completing 40.9% of his passes for 109 yards and lost a fumble. Beck should continue to struggle in 2007 as his supporting cast is awful. RB Michael Bush – Oakland Raiders Micheal Bush’s season ended before it started in Week 12 as the Raiders decided not to activate him from the PUP list by the deadline. Bush remains a sleeper candidate for the 2008 season.
RB Chris Henry – Tennessee Titans
Chris Henry finally dropped his appeal for his four game drug suspension after playing in Week 12. He will not be eligible to return until Week 16; however, it is unlikely that he will provide any help to fantasy owners for the remainder of the 2007 season. CB Eric Wright – Cleveland Browns Eric Wright is expected up to the next month with a knee injury. This is disappointing to IDP fantasy owners as Wright has been a tackling machine so far this year. With Wright out, Cleveland’s mediocre secondary becomes even worse, and opposing wide receivers become must starts. The following section of the rookie report will recap performances by rookies each week for each game.
Detroit Lions vs. Green Bay Packers
Packers WR James Jones caught 5 passes for 75 yards. PK Mason Crosby went 3 for 3 on field goal attempts and connected on all 4 of his extra point attempts.
