Greetings Sharkfans, welcome to the latest installment of the Seadog Report! With a quarter of the season in the books, I started to reflect back a bit to some of my preseason predictions and, I must say that I certainly missed the mark with a fair share of them. One guy who hasn’t lived up to my expectations is LB Keith Brooking of Atlanta. He hasn’t been bad, but I thought he’d be dominating. I knew the Falcons were going to be an improved team on defense this year and I figured that Brooking would be the guy to show it. It turns out that I got the team right but the player wrong. DE Patrick Kerney is the one who appears to be benefiting the most from the new regime in Atlanta. Not only is he putting up the sacks, but his tackle numbers are way up. Right now he is IDP fantasy gold from the DL slot. I expect that his numbers will tail off as the season progresses, but what a great start!
And while I’m at it, I need to apologize to all you Tedy Bruschi owners out there. My preseason predictions had him way down off of last year’s numbers. The guy has produced (and very well I might add) and I would expect him to continue to post solid numbers through the rest of the year. Boy, did I miss the boat with him.
This past week’s Top Dawgs
DL John Abraham NYJ This could easily have gone to Mr. Kerney again this week, but let’s give it up to John Abraham this week. I’ll take his 3 tackle, 1 assist, 1 pass-defensed, 1 forced-fumble, 1 fumble recovery week any day.
LB Tedy Bruschi NE This was close with Jamie Sharper HOU putting up great numbers this week, but I’ll give the nod here to Bruschi for his 4 tackle, 3 assist, 2 sack, 1 forced-fumble performance against the Bills.
DB Bryan Scott ATL A close call this week, but we’ll give it to another Atlanta player for his 7 tackle, 1 pass-defensed, 1 int, 1 forced-fumble) performance last week. Nice job!
Seadog’s picks of the week
Obviously a lot of these players mentioned here are worthy of “stud” consideration, but taking into account the various IDP schemes that are being used out there, sometimes it becomes choosing between the good and the better on your IDP roster.
DL John Abraham NYJ vs. Buffalo Abraham is playing with somewhat of a chip on his shoulder and going against a depleted Buffalo offensive line, I think it will be another strong performance for Abraham this week.
DL Grant Wistrom SEA vs. St.Louis Wistrom has had a couple of good showings before the bye last week, and you know he’s going to be fired up going against his former team. Look for a good opportunity for some points with Wistrom this week.
DL New England Patriots vs. Miami Okay, it’s just a bit of a copout here, but I think the Pats will bring some heat to the ‘Phins this weekend. I’ll say Seymour will be the guy this week.
LB London Fletcher BUF vs. NYJ The Jets have been riding on the back of Curtis Martin so far this year, so look for Fletcher to be very active.
LB Zach Thomas MIA vs. New England Thomas has been the one bright spot on this dismal Dolphin team. I expect him to be all over the field this week in a losing effort against the Pats.
LB Danny Clark OAK vs. Indianapolis James will run; Danny will tackle. Besides, we have him on the Fantasyshark’s HAFAX squad so he HAS to produce this week. Right Danny? Right?
DB Eugene Wilson NE vs. Miami Wilson has been very consistent this year and with Miami’s shaky QB situation, I’m gonna predict a pick for him this week.
DB Adrian Wilson ARI vs. San Francisco Continuing with the “Wilson” theme here, this guy has been living up to his expectations this year and has been making some big plays. He should be a pretty good play this week.
DB Houston Texans vs. Minnesota Whoever ends up guarding Randy Moss – that’s who you want to play. Minnesota’s running game has taken a huge hit this week, so you’ve gotta think they’ll be passing (a lot). The Texan DBs will be busy.
The “keep playing these guys” department (These are guys who produce and have been putting up consistent numbers )
DL Patrick Kerney ATL DL Michael Strahan NYG DL Tyler Brayton OAK DL Charles Grant NO DL Julius Peppers CAR
LB Ray Lewis BAL (always) LB Tedy Bruschi NE LB Kailee Wong HOU LB Dan Morgan CAR LB Donnie Edwards SD LB Keith Brooking ATL LB Nick Barnett GB LB Anthony Simmons SEA
DB Darren Sharper GB DB Troy Polamalu PIT DB Tony Dixon DAL DB Robert Griffith CLE DB Michael Lewis PHI DB Adam Archuleta StL DB Bryan Scott ATL DB Gibril Wilson NYG
