The Worst Fantasy Season Ever

| More

Have you ever come to a point in a fantasy season where you could care less? This has to be the most brutal, depressing, and boring fantasy season that I can remember. This season has made the Titanic seem like the Love Boat. With all the injuries and stars underperforming, it just feels like a rainy day at an amusement park. Where is the fun in it? Normally, I would jump at the chance to talk about fantasy football with a stranger. However, last week, I had one of my friends ask me how I was doing at fantasy football? I am doing really well, but honestly, I don’t even care about it. This is simply for me, the worst fantasy season ever.

I can’t even begin to point the finger at the reasons of why I am feeling this way. Maybe, it is the running backs I keep losing to season ending injuries. I seem to be losing one a week Then, I began looking at it more and more, and I am not even in as bad shape as one of my league mates who has just been raped by the amount of injuries he has had. Even though he is undefeated, he told me that it just isn’t the same this season. How much fun can you have when you are starting DeShawn Wynn and Warrick Dunn? Maybe, there is something to what he is saying, as it seems to me that injuries have just been piling up.

Of course, then I looked at a couple of my rosters and noticed something. How many of my first round picks have been worth a darn? I have Rudi Johnson and Travis Henry in a couple of leagues and maybe I was expecting more than I am getting, but they have been a disappointment. They are like dates with that hot chick; only to find out she is not what she seemed before you met her. I made a trade for Reggie Wayne and even though I can’t call him a bust, he has made me look at the live scoring with a somber tone. He was supposed to better than what I am getting. I left Jamal Lewis on my bench, one week where he scored 57 points. No one in their right mind was expecting that. Why could it not have been someone I drafted higher? You know, one of my stars. The glamor and shine definitely has worn off. I imagine the owners of Ladainian Tomlinson, Larry Johnson, and Shawn Alexander agrees. One thing we can say about them; at least they are not hurt.

Last season, I drafted Frank Gore in the 8th round, only to watch him become the breakout player I needed to put me in the playoffs. Where is the breakout star this season? If you know where he is I sure would like to know where to find him. Where is the Marques Colstons and Frank Gores of this season? Dwayne Bowe has had a nice couple of games, but I haven’t seen any evidence he is going to keep it up. Marshawn Lynch and Adrian Peterson could be, but it was kind of expected. I could have had Jones-Drew and Drew Brees off the waiver wire last season. This season I would be lucky to get Drew Carey. One of the reasons I play fantasy football is to know I pulled a Breakout star out of my behind to take my league by storm. But, so far this season, I have yet to find that satisfaction.

Maybe I am over analyzing this a bit too much, but I am just not into it as much as I used to. I don’t care about adding players or trades, and I am almost to the point where I don’t even care if I win or lose. As I said before, I am doing pretty well, as I am 4-1 in five of my leagues, but why does that even matter. Where is the excitement that I used to know? I can’t blame it on life, because I don’t have one. I have plenty of time. I am more excited about the season of “House” than I am some random football game. (This does not include my 49ers, which I will always care about, even if they do stink!) I just don’t care anymore. If that makes you upset that I write columns for a fantasy website that I am apathetic, I am just being honest.

It is a dark time in fantasy football, and I can only hope that it can get better for me and all the rest of you. Who know? Maybe the injuries will stop and Tomlinson will run for three touchdowns as he single handedly beats my team by himself. Now that would be a lot of fun. Maybe D.J. Hackett will become the breakout player that I envisioned when I picked him in the 9th round. There has to be something to shed some light on this eclipse known as fantasy football. Or, maybe, it will continue into a downward spiral of gloom and despair. Ah well, There is always next season.

As always, if you have any hate mail, fan mail, complaints, death threats, or if you just want to drop a line telling me how awesome I am; email me at Lundylove@msn.com. I might even answer some of your deepest darkest fantasy questions as long as it is about football. If they are good enough I might even post them in an upcoming article, and share your knowledge with the world.
