Waiver Wire Wonders - Week 15

This week was an extremely tough week on the injury front, as a couple of fantasy stars went down for what will likely be the rest of the season. Early reports are confirming what many feared, that the New England Patriots have lost Rob Gronkowski for the rest of the season. In Minnesota, the reports on Adrian Peterson are not as clear - he may be out, he may be back. Nothing made official at press time.

For those leagues where the waiver wire is still open, owners will need to move quickly in order to replace an injured star. And if  you're lucky enough to have a healthy team, never miss an opportunity to improve your lineup!

Elsewhere, teams with nothing to lose are starting to get their young talent on the field for some in-game evaluation, more opportunities for fantasy owners. There's something for everyone this week!

Solid Pickups

RB Daniel Thomas, Miami

Thomas was active this past week against the Pittsburgh Steelers, splitting time with Lamar Miller . When Miller left the game with a concussion, that left Thomas to carry the load. He finished the day with more than 100 yards rushing and a touchdown, strong numbers for a player that no one was certain would be dressed for the game. The Miami Dolphins play the New England Patriots next week, a very strong matchup as New England is giving up a ton of yards on the ground.

RB Toby Gerhart, Minnesota

Early reports on Adrian Peterson ’s injury are not conclusive. In the meantime, Gerhart is worth owning in all formats. Filling in for the injured beast, he rumbled for 89 yards and a touchdown. With the Minnesota Vikings’ season not going anywhere, it would be wise for them to be cautious with their star running back. Gerhart will step in and assume the load if Peterson is unable to go.

WR Rod Streater, Oakland

With Denarius Moore still on the shelf, Streater once again put up excellent numbers this week against the New York Jets. His seven catches were good for 130 yards and a touchdown. The Oakland Raiders finish the season with division rivalry games, which tend to be high-scoring affairs. So Streater is worth a look as a player that will have an immediate fantasy impact.

TE Dennis Pitta, Baltimore

Active for the first time all season, Pitta and Joe Flacco got back into their familiar ways. Six catches for 48 yards and a touchdown against the Minnesota Vikings, Pitta is back and can be considered a top-10 player at the tight end position.
