Week 10 in Review

Rams 37 --- Saints 29           
Upset alert! Upset alert! The Rams are no longer winless and the four-game win streak by the Saints is no more. Led by Steven Jackson, the Rams defeated the Saints on the road, where New Orleans has been shaky. Jackson threw a TD, caught 5 balls for 26 yards, and ran for 76 yards and a score. Marc Bulger woke up from his slumber completing 27 of 33 passes for 302 yards and 2 TD’s. Torry Holt had 124 receiving yards while Drew Bennett and Randy McMichael each caught a TD.

As for the Saints, QB Drew Brees struggled early, but padded his stats late in the 2^nd half. He finished with 272 yards, and a pair of TD’s and INT’s. Reggie Bush and Aaron Stecker each ran for a TD, but the yards were not there. Colston had another big receiving day with 129 yards while the tight ends, Eric Johnson and Billy Miller, were the recipients of touchdowns. The Saints have now dipped back under .500 and will travel to Houston next weekend.

Bills 13 --- Dolphins 10

Miami can’t buy a win! Leading 10-2 in the 4^th quarter, the Bills scored 11 points in the final session to keep Miami winless. Marshawn Lynch ran for 61 yards and a TD in the Bills win, but suffered an injury that is not considered serious. Lee Evans had 65 receiving yards, but JP Losman threw for only 157 yards and a pick.

As for the 0-9 Dolphins, Cleo Lemon threw for 131 yards in the loss. Jesse Chatman was the lone bright spot for Miami as he ran for 124 yards on 27 carries. I’m afraid that’s all from this game. Check back next week to see if Miami continues their perfect season in Philadelphia.

Broncos 27 --- Chiefs 11

What happens when you are without your #1 offensive player? You lose. Big. The Chiefs learned that the hard way as the presence of Larry Johnson was greatly missed from the Kansas City offense. Priest Holmes ran for 65 yards on 20 carries when Herm Edwards said he wouldn’t receive more than 15. Dwayne Bowe had a big day with 105 receiving yards on 9 catches. Damon Huard threw 2 INT’s and Croyle replaced him throwing an INT for himself. Kansas City dropped to 4-5 and is now tied with Denver for second place in the AFC West, pending the San Diego-Indianapolis outcome on SNF.

Travis Henry was inactive so Selvin Young took over his duties and played very well. He ran for 109 yards and a TD. Jay Cutler threw for 192 with a TD and INT. Brandon Marshall led all Bronco WR’s with 85 receiving yards. Javon Walker is hopeful that he will return next week as Denver hosts Tennessee on Monday Night. However, don’t count on it since his timetable was originally six weeks.

Packers 34 --- Vikings 0

Adrian Peterson rushed for 45 yards and…and that’s all. He did get injured and will go for an MRI tomorrow on his sprained knee. Brooks Bollinger wasn’t too much better as he threw for 176 yards and an INT.

Meanwhile, Brett Favre threw for 351 yards and 3 TD’s as he continued his phenomenal season. Ruvell Martin caught two of those touchdown passes while Driver and Jennings each caught 4 balls for 63 yards. The Packers are now 8-1 and will host Carolina next weekend. In 2007, it is possible we will see a matchup of Testaverde vs. Favre!

Falcons 20 --- Panthers 13

Speaking of Carolina, they got beat by Atlanta at home as Joey Harrington threw for 192 yards and a TD to Alge Crumpler. Warrick Dunn had a solid game on the ground rushing for 89 yards and a TD. The Falcons are now 3-6 and will host Tampa Bay in Week 11.

Vinny Testaverde make the start for Carolina, but wasn’t successful as the Panthers did not score an offensive TD. Steve Smith was held to 61 yards and also fumbled. DeShaun Foster ran for 59 yards as well. Carolina is now 4-5 and will have their hands full in Lambeau on Sunday. However, they’re in luck as the Saints are 4-5 and the division leading Tampa Bay Bucs are just 5-4.

Jaguars 28 --- Titans 13

The Jags got revenge on the Titans, who defeated them in Week 1 in Jacksonville. Quinn Gray threw for 101 yards and a TD, but his run may be over as David Garrard could be back next week against the Chargers. Fred Taylor ran for 45 yards and a score and his counterpart, Maurice Jones-Drew, ran for 101 yards and a TD. The Jaguars are now tied with the Titans at 6-3, which is good for 2^nd place in the toughest division in football.

Vince Young threw for an uncharacteristic 247 yards, 1 TD, and 2 INT’s. He also led the team in rushing with 52 yards. LenDale White ran for only 12 yards on 8 carries. Justin Gage led the Titan WR’s with 90 yards and a score. Tennessee will travel to Denver on Monday night. They have already defeated New Orleans on the road in primetime this year.

Eagles 33 --- Redskins 25

What’s that I hear? Chants of Don-o-van from the Philly faithful? Maybe not, but he sure did solidify his job Sunday as he threw for 4 TD’s and 251 yards. He also used his legs, which he hasn’t done much this season, to run for 37 yards. Brian Westbrook, as always, was the focal point of the Eagle offense. He totaled 183 yards and had 3 TD’s (2 rec, 1 rush). Reggie Brown and LJ Smith each had a TD reception as well.

Washington suffered a difficult home loss to the Eagles and will now have to travel to Dallas with their record standing at 5-4. Jason Campbell finally threw a TD pass to a WR this season. James Thrash held that honor as he caught two TD passes from Campbell, who threw for 215 yards and 3 scores. Clinton Portis carried the ball 30 times for 137 yards, but his effort was not enough as the Eagles put up 20 points in the 4^th.

Pittsburgh 31 --- Cleveland 28

Up 21-9 in Heinz Field at the half, the Browns were beginning to think they could beat the Steelers. However, they should have saved their thoughts for something else. Pittsburgh never gave in and beat the Browns in a thrilling game. The Steelers took the lead on a Big Ben 30-yard TD scramble in the 4^th quarter, but Josh Cribbs unbelievably took the ensuing kickoff 100 yards to the house to put Cleveland back on top. However, there was too much time for Big Ben as he hit Heath Miller for the game-winning score with just three minutes to go. Then, with 10 seconds to go, Phil Dawson’s potential game-tying 52-yard FG was short, and the Steelers were victorious.

Derek Anderson threw for 123 yards and 3 TD’s ( Winslow, Edwards, Vickers were TD recipients). Jamal Lewis was held to 35 rushing yards in the loss. Big Ben threw for 278 yards, 2 TD’s, and 1 INT. He also had a huge 30-yard TD run in the 4^th quarter. Hines Ward had 80 yards and a score while Heath Miller had 71 yards and a TD. Pittsburgh will travel to the Meadowlands to take on the 1-8 Jets.

Bengals 21 --- Ravens 7

No, the Bengals didn’t score 3 TDs to get to 21 points. Their kicker, Shayne Graham went 7 for 7 on FG’s. The strange thing about all of the kicks was that they were all less than 35 yards. Chris Henry made his debut after an eight-game suspension and caught 4 balls for 99 yards. Chad Johnson also caught 4 balls for 73 yards. Rudi Johnson carried the ball 22 times for 46 yards for Cincinnati.

Meanwhile, the Raven offense was lackluster yet again. Willis McGahee was able to add a late TD, but he ran for only 60 yards on a poor Cincy defense. Kyle Boller replaced Steve McNair, but he didn’t make a difference in the game. Mark Clayton led the team with 107 receiving yards. The Ravens are now 4-5 and have lost three straight.

Bears 17 --- Raiders 6

This one wasn’t pretty as Rex Grossman made an appearance and threw the eventual game-winning TD to Bernard Berrian in the 3^rd quarter. Cedric Benson ran for 76 yards and a score on 29 carries. The Bears are now 4-5 and will travel to Seattle.

As for Oakland, the Jamarcus era should begin soon. Fargas rushed for 81 yards while McCown threw for only 108 yards and a pick. Nothing else to see here…

Cowboys 31 --- Giants 20

The Cowboys showed on Sunday that they are the cream of the crop in the NFC right now, but the Packers may have something to say about that down the road. However, the NFC East belongs to the Dallas Cowboys after their road win in the Meadowlands. Romo threw for 247 yards and 4 TD’s. Two of which went to T.O., who finished with 125 yards as well. Patrick Crayton also caught a TD pass and had 5 catches for 66 yards. Dallas is now 8-1 and they’ll host the 5-4 Redskins at home.

Eli Manning did not play well at all, but his numbers did not show how bad he performed. He threw for 236 yards, 1 TD, and 2 INT’s. Brandon Jacobs ran for 95 yards and Jeremy Shockey caught 12 balls for 129 yards and a TD. However, Plaxico Burress had a quiet day with only 4 catches. The Giants will face the Lions in Motown in a key NFC playoff-like game next week.

Cardinals 31 --- Lions 21

The Cardinals defeated the Lions as Detroit rushed for -18 yards. Yes, negative eighteen yards. Kevin Jones had -4 yards and a TD while Roy Williams caught two TD’s on 6 catches for 45 yards. Jon Kitna finished with 294 yards, 2 TD’s, and 4 turnovers (2 INT’s, 2 fumbles lost). The Lions dropped to 6-3 with the loss and lost ground in the NFC North, but will host the Giants in a key NFC battle next Sunday.

As for the winners, the Cardinals sit at 4-5 and pending tomorrow night’s game between the Seahawks and 49ers, they will be at worst one game back in the division. Kurt Warner led the way with 259 yards, 3 TD’s, and 1 INT. Tim Rattay came in and stole one of Warner’s TD’s inside the redzone because of Warner’s sore thumb. Edgerrin James ran for 60 yards as Arizona’s offense looked impressive against the Lions D. Larry Fitzgerald had a big day with 74 yards and 2 TD’s. Arizona will travel to Cincinnati next week which seems like pleasant fantasy day.
