Bye weeks are over, so no more excuses! It's put up or shut up time with only 3-4 weeks left in your regular season. Time to put the pedal to the metal and see what your fantasy squad can do. May your team floor past the opposition and end up in the winner's circle instead of pit row. When using this list, try and remember a couple basic rules: 1) Studs - Always play your studs. Each position will include a list of players that are considered studs and should not be benched. If you have the luxury of needing to decide between studs, check out the matchups or feel free to let the shark tank assist you in your decisions. 2) Depth - Every fantasy team is different and some have more depth than others. Only follow the recommended moves if your team depth allows you to make such a move. Enough of the chit-chat, onto the list!!
Quarterbacks Studs (* = new addition to the list) Daunte Culpepper, Minnesota vs. DetroitDonovan McNabb, Philadelphia vs. Washington Peyton Manning, Indianapolis vs. Chicago Start Jake Plummer , Denver (vs. New Orleans): Coming off a bye week shouldn't slow down Plummer's production in N'Awlans this week. Plummer has thrown four TDs in each of the past two games and the Saints defense gives up passing yards in bundles. Start the snake and enjoy.Brett Favre , Green Bay (vs. Houston): Looks like Favre's thumb injury is just fine. Four TDs against the Vikes last week and this week he faces a Texans defense that saw Peyton Manning toss five TD passes. Favre will be a strong play once again this week.Bench Michael Vick , Atlanta (vs. N.Y. Giants): Yes, the Giants are without Strahan, but Vick has yet to adjust to the West Coast offense in Atlanta. With a strong TE and not much else, Vick will continue to be a weak play at the QB position.Matt Hasselbeck , Seattle (vs. Miami): Speaking of weak plays, Hasselbeck's receivers have dropped more passes than Eminem drops F-bombs. Against Miami this week, look for the Hawks to lean heavily on Shaun Alexander leaving Hasselbeck with below average numbers once again.
Running Backs Studs (* = new addition to the list) Curtis Martin, N.Y. Jets vs. Cleveland Removed from Studs list: -Priest Holmes, K.C.: Doubtful, knee Start Reuben Droughns , Denver (vs. New Orleans): Droughns returns from a bye week to face the team ranked dead last in rushing yards allowed. Reuben should have a field day. Don't miss out.Jerome Bettis , Pittsburgh (vs. Cincinnati): Just when you thought the Bus was going to be shipped off to the used car lot, he posts back-to-back 100-yard games in place of the injured Duce Staley. If Staley is out again this week, Bettis will continue to produce. Even if Staley returns, Bettis is a good play to get at least a score and 10-15 carries.Onterrio Smith , Minnesota (vs. Detroit): Even Mike Tice cannot ignore the fact that Smith has the most all-around talent of any of the RBs in Minnesota. This week, Smith faces a team that Fred Taylor scorched for 144 yards on the ground last week. Look for Smith to impress this week.Bench Rudi Johnson, Cincinnati (vs. Pittsburgh): Johnson needed a season-high 31 carries last week to crack the 100-yard mark rushing for 102 yards against the Redskins. He would need twice as many carries this week to approach 100 yards against the Steelers. Not gonna happen.Brian Westbrook, Philadelphia (vs. Washington): Westbrook has not impressed as of late averaging less than four yards per carry in each of the past three games. This week, the Eagles face a Redskins run defense ranked third in the NFL in passing yards allowed. Use other options if possible.Tyrone Wheatley , Oakland (vs. San Diego): The Raiders backfield has almost been as crowded as the Vikings backfield this season. While Wheatley currently has the starting job, don't expect big things against the Bolts who are the best in the NFL allowing only 78.6 rushing yards per game.
Wide Receivers Studs (* = new addition to the list) Terrell Owens, Philadelphia vs. Washington Removed from Studs list: -Randy Moss, Minnesota: hamstring injury Start Rod Smith, Denver (vs. New Orleans): Smith has caught a TD pass is each of the past three games. Oh yeah, he also posted over 200 yards receiving only two weeks ago. Considering the Saints are dead last in passing yards allowed, I'd say it's a good idea to start Smith this week. Nate Burleson , Minnesota (vs. Detroit): Burleson has emerged as the go-to guy in Randy Moss' absence. Burleson has a TD catch in each of the past three games and last week he caught 11 passes for 141 yards. I'd say he's developed a nice rapport with Culpepper. Roll with Nate while it lasts.Jerry Porter , Oakland (vs. San Diego): Porter hasn't been the model of consistency this season, but with the Chargers near the bottom of the league in passing yards allowed, look for Porter to post respectable numbers this week at home.Reggie Wayne , Indianapolis (vs. Chicago): Even though Brandon Stokely stole the show last week and Marvin Harrison isn't having a typical Harrison-like season, Wayne will continue to see enough action to warrant a start. It's hard to argue with four TD catches in the past three games.Bench Larry Fitzgerald , Arizona (vs. Carolina): Fitzgerald could only muster one catch for two yards last week. With the Cardinals riding the recent successes of Emmitt Smith and the return of Boldin, expect Fitzy's role in the Cardinals offense to remain average at best this week.Koren Robinson , Seattle (vs. Miami): With Robinson's suspension hearing this week, there's a chance that he'll be out for the next four games. If for some reason his appeal is upheld, he doesn't make a strong play this week after only posting two catches in each of the past two weeks and facing a Miami pass defense that is about the only thing going right for the Dolphins this season.T.J. Houshmandzadeh , Cincinnati (vs. Pittsburgh): Housh has been the starter since Warrick went down with an injury, but you wouldn't know it looking at his stats. He's only had one game of 100 receiving yards or more and no TDs, repeat ZERO TDs. Pass on T.J.Antonio Bryant , Cleveland (vs. N.Y. Jets): Bryant has yet to get into a groove with the Browns offense. With Jeff Garcia continually spouting out to the press, don't expect things to get much easier this week against a Jets team trying to keep pace with the Pats in the AFC East.
Tight Ends Studs (* = new addition to the list) Tony Gonzalez, Kansas City vs. New England Start Jermaine Wiggins , Minnesota (vs. Detroit): Wiggins is walking the walk of a top-tier TE. A repeat performance of last week's six catches for 94 yards and a TD will not be far-fetched against the Lions this week.Je b Putzier, Denver (vs. New Orleans): Expect big things from the Broncos passing attack this week including the role Putzier will play. He had a TD catch and over 40 yards receiving each of the past two weeks and should produce solid numbers again this week.Bench Freddie Jones, Arizona (vs. Carolina): Three weeks in a row with one catch for less than 10 yards. Does that sound like a starter to you?Jerramy Stevens , Seattle (vs. Miami): It'll be a rough day for all members of the Seattle passing attack, tight ends included. Look elsewhere for your starter this week. |
