Week 12: When It Rains, It Pours

As the first half of the season recently closed, we are now bracing for the homestretch that is certain to include weather concerns. Although matchups, performance history, trends, and workload will continue to be the key variables in determining waiver additions and starters, it is also important to check the weather, especially for wide receivers and quarterbacks. In Week 11, the game between the Baltimore Ravens and Chicago Bears at Soldier Field lasted late into the afternoon after a nearly two hour rain delay.  Beware of windy, raining, and snowy conditions as they can significantly factor into the performance of some of your fantasy players.

For now, take a deep dive into Week 12!

QB

I hope you have better options than Green Bay Packers’ third string quarterback Scott Tolzien this week. However, he may be headed for a breakout game if you are desperate. Tolzien has averaged over 300 passing yards per game, however, has only thrown one touchdown compared to five interceptions. The weather appears to be cold and clear as Green Bay welcomes the Minnesota Vikings to town, who allow the third most points to opposing quarterbacks. In fact, they have given up at least two passing touchdowns in four straight weeks. Look for Tolzien to impress in what may possibly be his last start.

Week 12 Forecast: 275 passing yards and two touchdowns.

RB

Rashad Jennings is trying his best to earn the full-time job for Oakland even when
Darren McFadden returns. Jennings has averaged more than 100 rushing yards in his last three games and has been a key target in the passing game.  His skill set was on full display in Week 11 where he accumulated 109 yards after contact, which is the highest total of any running back in 2013. Jennings will trample the Tennessee Titans in Week 12 as they have surrendered at least two rushing touchdowns over their last five games.

Week 12 Forecast: 125 total yards and one touchdown

WR

Marques Colston may no longer be a top wide receiver and
Drew Brees ’ favorite target, but he is still very useful in fantasy football. After being nearly invisible early in the season, Colston has averaged eight targets and more than 93 receiving yards per game over the last two contests. With Jimmy Graham likely still limited, Colston should post another solid line against the Atlanta Falcons’ weak secondary that allows the fourth most points to opposing wide receivers. Start Colston with confidence!

Week 12 Forecast: 100 receiving yards and one touchdown

TE

Garrett Graham may not be the best “Graham” at tight end in the NFL, but he finally broke out after starting for Owen Daniels much of the season. He received 13 targets for 136 yards and a touchdown in Houston’s loss to Oakland in Week 11. Graham should have a strong follow-up performance against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 12. The Jaguars have surrendered the second most points to tight ends. Let’s see if Graham’s Week 11 performance was legit or just a fluke.

Week 12 Forecast: 75 receiving yards and one touchdown

Defense/Special Teams

The Baltimore Ravens defense may not flash the same flare as in previous seasons, but they will soar in Week 12. The New York Jets offense was a debacle in Week 11 and faces a better defense in Week 12. Baltimore is ranked third in sacks and should pressure Geno Smith all game.

Week 12 Forecast: 13 points
