Week 2 in Review

49ers 17 --- Rams 16
A heavy-hearted Frank Gore was the standout star here. He ran for 81 yards and 2 scores after his mother passed away earlier in the week. That was pretty much most of the offense for the 49ers as Alex Smith passed for only 126 yards in the win. The 49ers improve to 2-0, with both wins coming in the division.

Oh boy, the #2 pick is disappointing again. Steven Jackson rushed for only 60 yards on 21 carries and had 3 cat ches for 36 yards. Isaac Bruce stood out for the Rams with 145 receiving yards in the loss. Marc Bulger threw for over 360 yards and a touchdown. Jeff Wilkins missed a potential game winning FG from 56-yards out that fell just short with a minute remaining.

Steelers 26 --- Bills 3
Not much to talk about here other than a solid performance by Fast Willie Parker. Parker rushed for 126 yards and a touch while Big Ben threw for 242 and a score, with a pick as well. Hines Ward and Santonio Holmes racked up 55 and 53 yards, respectively. The Steelers defense was great again allowing only 3 points to the Buffalo Bills.

The Bills could not do anything on offense as Lee Evans continues to struggle along with JP Losman. Marshawn Lynch ran for 64 yards in a losing effort.

Packers 35 --- Giants 13
If you saw the Sunday Night Game between the Giants and the Cowboys, then I'm sure you realized how bad the Giants defense was. Well, it didn't get any better on Sunday. Brett Favre dinked and dunked his way to 286 yards and 3 touchdowns, as well as one interception. Brandon Jackson was not as impressive (35 rushing yards) as the Giants contained the run, but not the pass. Donald Driver added 73 yards with a TD. The Packers are now 2-0 and will host the Chargers next week.

Eli Manning played in the Giants loss and threw for 211 yards with his lone TD going to Plaxico Burress, who added 32 receiving yards. Jeremy Shockey led the Giants receivers with 60 yards on 5 catches. Derrick Ward was able to get some garbage points as he totaled 125 yards.

Jaguars 13 --- Falcons 7
This game doesn't deserve much coverage. Warrick Dunn scored his first TD of the year, but Jacksonville scored ten points in the 4th quarter to earn the win at home. Maurice Jones-Drew only ran for 31 yards on 11 carries while David Garrard threw for 272 + a TD.

Browns 51 --- Bengals 45
Yes, Browns 51, Bengals 45. Where do I start? We'll begin with the winners. Derek Anderson threw for 328 yards, 5 touchdowns, and 1 interception in the shootout victory over the Bengals. Braylon Edwards had 146 of those yards with 2 TDs. Joe Jurevicius got into the action with 44 yards and 2 TDs as well. However, limit your expectations for him in the future. Jamal Lewis was revitalized and ran for 216 yards with a TD in the win.

Carson Palmer threw for SIX touchdowns... in a losing effort! 401 yards, 6 TDs, 2 INTs. What a game line, but it comes in the loss to Cleveland. Rudi Johnson ran for 111 yards and added a receiving TD. Ocho-Cinco had 209 yards and 2 TD's while Ocho-Quattro racked up 69 yards with 2 TD's for himself. A bad loss for the Bengals on the road in Cleveland, who looked awful last weekend.

Texans 34 --- Panthers 21
The Panthers looked as if they would finally have a strong start to the year as they have been projected to do so for the last few years, but fail to live up to the expectations, the Texans came storming back. The Panthers led this one 14-0 on a pair of Steve Smith TDs in the 1st quarter. Smith finished the day with 153 yards on 8 catches with 3 being for TD's. Jake Delhomme had a solid fantasy day as well with over 300 yards and the three touchdowns to Smith. However, there was no running game and the Texans offense looked solid for the final three quarters.

Andre Johnson is off to an excellent start this season and he had 7 receptions for 120 yards with 2 TD's on Sunday. Matt Schuab added 227 yards along with the touchdowns to Andre. The Texans offensive line was great in the win not allowing one sack and allowed Ahman Green to scamper for a touchdown and 71 yards. Ron Dayne racked up 44 yards, but did it on 18 carries. The Texans are now 2-0.

Bucs 31 --- Saints 14
The Tampa Bay Bucs came out firing early and often against the Saints. Joey Galloway torched his favorite opponents for 135 yards and reached the endzone twice. Caddy, bruised ribs and all, played in this game and also scored twice on 24 carries for 61 yards. How about these numbers for Jeff Garcia: 10 for 16 for 243 yards with 2 TDs. 10 completions that went for 243 yards!

What is wrong with the New Orleans Saints? Has the magic run out? I'm not ready to say that just yet, but if they struggle on Monday Night vs. the Titans, then it's panic time in Nawlins. The Saints trailed 28-0 at one point in this game and scored two late TD's to make it look better than it was. Reggie Bush, who is leading the votes right now for MDP (Most Disappointing Player) through the first two weeks, ran for just 27 yards on 10 carries and added 6 catches for 43 yards. In point-per-reception leagues, his day was not so bad, but nothing what was expected of him. Deuce McAllister ran for 49 yards on 10 carries, but the Saints could not do much running when they fell into the big hole early. Drew Brees was able to throw for 260 and a score in the loss.

Colts 22 --- Titans 20
The Titans were able to keep this one close as they played a gritty game against the defending Superbowl Champs. Vince Young was solid as he rushed for 53 yards, threw for 184 yards, and added a TD. LenDale White also ran for a TD to go along with his 64 yards on the ground.

Peyton Manning threw for over 300 yards once again as Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne recorded 87 and 70 yards, respectively. Joseph Addai scored his 2nd TD of the year and rushed for 81 yards on 20 carries. Adam Vinatieri had a lot of action in this game going 3 for 4, and also had an XP blocked. The Colts got close several times, but failed to convert red zone opportunities into touchdowns, which led to several FG's.

Cardinals 23 --- Seahawks 20
Boy oh boy does Edgerrin James look good in that offense. The Edge ran for 128 yards and a TD in the Cardinals dramatic win over Seattle. After recovering a late fumble by Matt Hasselbeck, the Cardinals drove 22 yards down the field to get in reasonable FG range for Rackers, who nailed a game-winning 42 yarder with one second left. Neil Rackers drained a 52 yarder to tie it only minutes before the game-winner. Matt Leinart threw for one yard shy of 300 and added a TD. Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin each had receiving yards just above 80.

Shaun Alexander rank for 70 yards + a TD. Deion Branch awoke from his slumber and caught 7 balls for 122 yards. Hasselbeck threw for 281 yards and a score, but his fumble in the final minutes stands out the most. Each NFC West team is now 1-1 on the year.

Lions 23 --- Vikings 20, OT
Tarvaris Jackson is bad. Real bad. Four interceptions bad. So bad, that the Vikes brought in Brooks Bollinger in OVERTIME to try to win the game, but he fumbled the snap at mid-field and the Lions recovered and went on to win the game thanks to a FG by Jason Hanson. However, the Vikings were able to stay in the game with the horrible QB play and had a chance to win. The Vikings defense scored a TD, which was their THIRD of the year! Peterson totaled over 110 yards in the loss.

Jon Kitna left this game, but later returned in the 4th quarter to lead the Lions to victory. Kitna threw for 245 yards, 1 TD, and 1 INT in only about 2 1/2 quarters of play. JT O'Sullivan made an appearance and tossed for 148 yards, 1 TD, but had 2 picks. The running game was non-existent for the Lions though as Jon Kitna had one less yard than Tatum Bell, and would have surpassed him if it wasn't for a kneel down. Roy Williams was dazzling in the victory catching 7 balls for 111 yards and a score. Calvin Johnson looked impressive as well with 61 yards and a touch. The Lions are now 2-0 and tied with the Pack for first.

Cowboys 37 --- Dolphins 20
Marion Barber was the story here rushing for 89 yards and 2 TD's. Tony Romo had 2 TD's and 186 yards, including a 34-yard strike to TO. Terrell Owens finished the day with that lone TD and 97 yards.

The Dolphins running game is poor as Ronnie Brown ran for 33 yards and Jesse Chatman ran for 27. Trent Green was throwing all day...to Dolphins and Cowboys. Green had 2 TDs, but also had 4 INT's to go along with his 287 yards. Chris Chambers totaled 109 yards in a losing effort.

Ravens 20 --- Jets 13
Two words: Justin McCareins. Down 20-3 in the 4th, Kellen Clemens was leading the Jets to a great 4th quarter comeback. With about 2 minutes to go the Jets were driving to tie the game after Jerricho Cotchery had a long catch and run of 50 yards to the Ravens 30 yard line. A few plays later, McCareins dropped a sure TD coming across the middle as the Jets picked up the blitz. There was still plenty of time left though for the Jets. Laveranues Coles made a tremendous catch down the left sideline as he was forced out of bounds at the Ravens 7 yard line on a 3rd and 10. So, first and goal from the 7, the Jets were in position to tie when Clemens threw incomplete to McCareins. Then, on 2nd and goal, McCareins was open in the end zone and Clemens threw a high dart that went threw the hands of McCareins and into the hands of Ray Lewis in the endzone. A Jet comeback that would fall short dropped them to 0-2 and evened the Ravens record at 1-1.

Cotchery had 165 yards receiving in the loss while Thomas Jones ran for 67 tough yards on the Ravens. Willis McGahee ran for 97 yards while Kyle Boller, who played for the injured Steve McNair, threw for 2 TDs, including a nice touch pass to Todd Heap, who hauled it in one-handed.

Broncos 23 --- Raiders 20, OT
Back-to-back games that Denver arguably should not have won. The Raiders led this game 20-17 late, but Denver was able to tie it to send it to OT. After a long run by Lamont Jordan in the extra session, the Raiders were about to kick a FG for the win. The kick from 50+ yards out was nailed and the Raiders thought they had won it. However, the Broncos called time out just before the snap was made. So, the Raiders lined up and did it again. This time, the kick hit the top of the upright and went wide. The Broncos would take advantage of the short field and Jason Elam would kick a game-winner as the Broncos won the battle.

LaMont Jordan ran for 159 yards on 25 carries and looks like a great value pick thus far. Travis Henry looked good for Denver again with 128 yards on the ground. Cutler threw for 269 and a score, but had two INT's. Javon Walker had over 100 receiving yards again this week and Brandon Marshall caught 5 balls for 82 yards.

Bears 20 --- Chiefs 10
Bears win. Cedric Benson runs for 101 yards. Rex Grossman throws a TD and 2 picks. Devin Hester takes one to the house on a punt return.

Chiefs are 0-2. LJ runs for 55 yards on 16 carries. Dwayne Bowe gets his first NFL TD.

Patriots 38 --- Chargers 14
The New England Patriots just handed it to the Chargers on Sunday Night football. Tom Brady has his way throwing for 279 yards and 3 touchdowns. The Pats led 24-0 at the half. Laurence Maroney ran for 77 yards, but Sammy Morris had 51 yards and stole a TD. At least Maroney got more carries this time (15 vs. Morris' 10). Randy Moss caught 8 balls for 105 yards and 2 TDs in a dominating performance. Wes Welker continues to be a solid option for Brady as he racked in 91 yards. David Ortiz popped up to the shortstop for the final out in the game.

As for the Chargers, they have some work to do. Phillip Rivers threw for 179 yards, 2 TDs and 2 INT's. One INT was taken to the house by Adalius Thomas. Antonio Gates continues to be the #1 target as his line was 7-77 and 1 TD. LadainianTomlinson ran for just 43 yards and had 15 receiving yards. The Pats defense was all over SD all night.

MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL
