Week 6 in Review
Jaguars 37 --- Texans 17
As for
Packers 17 --- Redskins 14
The Redskins had the Packers right where they wanted them. They were up 14-7 at half and were looking good on both sides of the ball. The game changed when
Santana Moss fumbled and
Charles Woodson took it 57-yards to the house for the 17-14 lead. The Packers never looked back and won by that score despite
Brett Favre’s poor day. Favre was 19/37 with 188 yards and 2 picks.
DeShawn Wynn got the only offensive TD for the Packers and added 37 rushing yards.
Jason Campbell
finished with 217 passing yards with 2 TDs (one rushing) and INT.
Clinton Portis rushed for 64 tough yards on 20 carries along with a fumble.
Chris Cooley led the day for the Skins receivers with 101 yards and a score.
Browns 41 --- Dolphins 31
Braylon Edwards
is on a mission. After a 3-TD performance on Sunday,
Edwards now has 7 TDs on the year.
Derek Anderson had those 3 TDs as well as 245 yards through the air. He also ran for a score to give him a total of 4 on the day. The starting RB
Jason Wright ran for 59 yards and a TD in the place of the injured
Jamal
Lewis. Kellen Winslow had 5 catches for 90 yards.
The Dolphins are still winless as they fell to 0-6.
Cleo Lemon finished the game with a nice stat line, though. He ran for 2 TDs and threw for 256 yards with 2 TDs.
Ronnie Brown eclipsed the 100-yard mark on the ground and had 9 catches for 69 yards out of the backfield.
Chris Chambers led
Vikings 34 --- Bears 31
The Bears tried to stage a comeback, but
Ryan Longwell and his GW 55-yard field goal had something to say about. Nevertheless, there should only be one name on the Rookie of the Year ballot this year-
Adrian “AD” Peterson. He put on a show against the Bears defense in
For the Bears,
Cedric Benson ran for 67 yards against a stingy Vikings run defense. However,
Devin Hester would keep the Bears’ hopes alive as he had a punt return for a TD early in the game and an 81-yard TD catch late in the game.
Bernard Berrian and
Muhsin Muhammad each had a TD catch as well.
Brian Griese finished with a solid day on paper with 381 yards, 3 TD’s, and 2 INT’s. If the Bears could not show some energy and fight to win a big home game after a dramatic MNF win, I don’t think they’ll be playing too many meaningful games down the stretch.
Ravens 22 --- Rams 3
How do you spell ugly? I spell it R-A-M-S. The Rams are now 0-6 and
Gus Frerotte threw the same amount of INT’s on Sunday that the Rams have scored on offense through the first six weeks. Five. There was no running room for
Brian Leonard and company and Gus threw for 208 yards.
The Ravens D was the story of the day forcing six turnovers and sacking Gus six times.
Matt Stover was pretty much all of the offense for the Ravens as he went 5 for 5.
Willis McGahee finally hit paydirt as he ran for 61 yards and a score.
Derrick
Mason kept his hot streak going with 5 catches for 79 yards.
Bucs 13 --- Titans 10
Vince Young
was unable to finish the game (quad injury) and
Kerry Collins came in and almost led the Titans to a victory, but
Matt Bryant connected on a 43-yard game-winning FG with eleven seconds to go.
Jeff Garcia threw for 274 yards and a TD to
Joey Galloway, who finished with 97 of those yards. There was no running game for the Bucs, but they didn’t need it.
LenDale White
led the Titans rushing attack with 64 yards and a score. VY had 120 yards and a INT before leaving the game while
Kerry Collins threw for 125 yards in relief. The Bucs are now 4-2 while the Titans dropped to 3-2.
Eagles 16 --- Jets 9
J-E-t…..s? It looks like they’re calling for
Clemens again in
The Eagles did not do much in this game after a 1st quarter 75-yard TD pass from
Donovan McNabb to
Kevin Curtis.
Brian Westbrook ran the ball 20 times for 120 yards and hauled in 6 passes for 36 yards. He continues to be the heart and soul of the Eagle offense.
Reggie Brown showed some signs of life as he caught 6 balls for 89 yards. With the win, the Birds improved to 2-3 while the Jets are now 1-5 and will face another struggling team in
Chiefs 27 --- Bengals 20
Speaking of the struggling team from
What’s that guy #27 in red and white doing in the endzone?
Larry Johnson may have felt he was back in 2006 on Sunday as he carried the rock 31 times for 119 yards and a TD.
Tony Gonzalez reached a milestone when he caught a TD in the first half becoming the all-time leader in touchdowns by tight ends. Gonzalez finished with 2 TD’s and 102 yards on 9 catches.
Damon Huard (264 yards and 2 TDs) got the start for KC as they improved to 3-3 on the year, which is good for 1st place in the AFC West.
Panthers 25 --- Cardinals 10
We were headed for an old-school matchup of
Testaverde vs.
Warner until Kurt got injured after throwing just two passes in this game and did not return. Vinny, who was signed just a few days before this game, led the Panthers to a big NFC victory. He threw for 206 yards and a TD to
Steve Smith, who finished with 136 yards and 10 catches.
DeAngelo Williams boosted his stat line in the 4th quarter as he ran for 121 yards and a TD.
As for the Cards, it was not pretty. Their defense was a sexy pick all week with the possibility of Testaverde making the start for the Panthers, but it didn’t turn out as planned. The
Chargers 28 --- Raiders 14
The Raiders squandered a shot to take over 1st place in the AFC West and gain some respect.
Daunte Culpepper did not exactly get his roll on as he threw 2 picks and lost a fumble in his 230-yard, 1 TD day.
LaMont Jordan did play for
Patriots 48 --- Cowboys 27
And the matchup you’ve all been waiting for… The 5-0 Patriots traveled to
The Cowboys lost their first game of the year and fell to 5-1.
Tony Romo threw for under 200 yards (199) and 2 TDs.
Terrell Owens and
Patrick Crayton each had a TD for
Saints 28 --- Seahawks 17 In 2006, the Saints blocked a Falcons punt on the opening possession and ran it in for a touchdown on Monday Night Football. It wasn't much different on Sunday night. In Seattle, the Saints did the same on their way to their first victory of 2007 and improved to 1-4. They'll have to take it one game at a time though since they are three games out of first in the NFC South. They were led by Drew Brees, who went 25/36 for 246 yards and 2 TD's. Reggie Bush set the tone early and finished with 140+ total yards of offense. He fumbled inside the 10 in the 3rd quarter or he may have reached the endzone that drive. David Patten was the go-to-guy for Brees as he caught 8 balls for 113 yards. Eric Johnson caught a TD pass from Brees as did Marques Colston.
The Seahawks looked flustered from the time the game began. The ground game was not working as Alexander rushed for just 34 yards. Bobby Engram led all Seahawk receivers with 120 yards on 9 catches. Ben Obomanu caught 4 balls for 72 yards and a TD while Nate Burleson had 63 yards and a score. Hasselbeck finished the game with 362 yards, 2 TD's, and a pick. Seattle dropped to 3-3 with the loss, but still remain tied for first with the Cardinals.
Giants @ Falcons - Monday Night Football A game that the Giants should win, but going to Atlanta on Monday night could be difficult if the G-Men get off to a slow start. They'll need to run early and often on the Falcons as well as rushing the passer well against a depleted Atlanta O-Line. The Falcons will do what they can to pick up their 2nd win of the year at home. Expect this one to be closer than most people think.
