Week 9 in Review
Adrian Petersons 35 --- Chargers 17
LaDainian Tomlinson
rushed for 40 yards and a score while adding 6 receptions for 37 yards.
Chris Chambers was held to 59 yards receiving while
Antonio Gates had just one catch for ten yards. It’s hard to believe what happened to the Charger offense in
Packers 33 --- Chiefs 22
An entertaining game took place Sunday in Arrowhead and
Brett Favre worked his magic again.
Greg Jennings was on the receiving end of another game-winning TD. This time, it was a 60-yard bomb with just three minutes to go. #4 for the Packers finished with 360 yards, 2 TDs, and 2 INTs.
Ryan Grant carried the ball 19 times for 55 yards.
Donald
Driver broke out of a slump catching 5 balls for 99 yards.
Damon Huard
led the Chiefs with 213 yards, 2 TDs, and 2 INTs. Larry Johnson had 2 TDs (one rushing, one receiving) and totaled 95 yards. However, he left the game with an injured ankle.
Tony Gonzalez led all KC receivers with 109 yards and a TD.
Lions 44 --- Broncos 7
Wow. The Detroit Lions are for real. Granted, the Broncos lost
Jay Cutler early in this game with an injury, but the Lions looked very good and are now 6-2.
Jon Kitna threw for 252 yards and 2 TDs, but more importantly the running game got going again.
Kevin Jones rushed for 71 yards and
TJ Duckett rumbled for 48 yards with a TD.
Shaun McDonald caught 5 balls for 78 yards and a TD.
Jay Cutler
threw for just 20 yards, but had to leave early with an injury and
Patrick
Ramsey replaced him, throwing for 262 yards and one TD and INT apiece.
Travis
Henry ran for 31 yards and
Brandon Marshall led all Bronco WR’s with 96 receiving yards.
Bills 33 --- Bengals 21
Ah, the misery of the Cincinnati Bungals. Cincy (2-6) is not a good football team, at least on the defensive side of the ball. It showed on Sunday against
On to
Falcons 20 --- 49ers 16
The two quarterbacks combined for 4 interceptions and no touchdowns. That about sums up this thriller. Here’s the noteworthy stats and then we’ll stop with this mess:
San Fran:
Maurice Hicks- 49 yards and a TD.
Vernon Davis also had 77 receiving yards.
Titans 20 --- Panthers 7
The Titans dominated this game on defense from start to just about finish.
Vince
Young had 110 yards passing with 2 picks, but ran for 25 yards and a score.
LenDale
White had 100 yards and a TD on 31 carries. The Titans are now 6-2 and a solid AFC team.
As for the Panthers, they’re slowly getting away from the playoff picture. The QB situation is a mess and they don’t have much of a running game.
Drew Carter had the lone TD from
Carr for the Panthers on the day.
Bucs 17 --- Cardinals 10
Another game that was tough to watch took place in
Jeff Garcia
continues to manage the game well for the Bucs as they improved to 5-4 and will head into the bye.
Earnest Graham carried the ball 34 times for 124 yards and a TD in his best rushing effort of the year.
Joey Galloway caught 5 balls for 84 yards and a score.
Redskins 23 --- Jets 20
Ah, the misery of the Jets. They led this 17-3 in the 1st half, but could not hold on for a victory. The Jets also had a chance to win this game in regulation, but were held to a FG to send the game into overtime. In overtime, the Jets had the ball inside the Redskins 40, but were forced to punt. The Skins did what they did all game long in the extra session, and that was run the football with
As for the Jets,
Kellen Clemens made the start and played a decent game. He threw for 226 yards and a TD. He also ran the ball for 48 yards, one less than
Thomas Jones.
Jerricho Cotchery had 90 receiving yards for Gang Green. The Jets will head into the bye at 1-8.
Saints 41 --- Jaguars 24
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Patience is a virtue. The Saints breezed to a win led by their QB,
Drew Brees. He went 35/49 with 445 yards and 3 TD’s.
Reggie
Bush also had a solid game with 2 TDs, 72 rushing yards, and 43 receiving yards on 7 catches.
Marques Colston caught 10 passes for 159 yards to lead the Saints.
The Jaguars could not keep up with the Saints offense. The game was tied at 17 thanks to a
Maurice Jones-Drew 100 yard kickoff return, but then the Saints took off.
Quinn Gray threw for 354 yards, 2 TD’s, and 3 INT’s. However, on the ground, Fred Taylor and Jones-Drew combined for just 82 yards.
Reggie Williams led the Jaguar wide receivers with 128 yards and a score. Don’t be fooled, though, as he had an 80-yard bomb for a touchdown.
Browns 33 --- Seahawks 30
The Cleveland Browns are 5-3 and have an offense that cannot be stopped. After Week 1, I never thought I would utter those words.
Derek Anderson threw for 364 yards and a pick with no touchdowns because Jamal Lewis stole them all! Lewis ran for only 37 yards, but had 4 touchdowns.
Kellen Winslow caught 11 balls for 125 yards while
Lewis and
Edwards each had 67 yards. However, the hero of the day was
Phil Dawson, who kicked the game winning field goal in overtime.
As for
Texans 24 --- Raiders 17
Who was watching this one? 95% of
As for the winners,
Patriots 24 --- Colts 20
And the Pats are Superbowl 41 ½ World Champions… Anyway, glad that’s over.
Tom
Brady and
Randy Moss showed that they are the number one combination in the league. The Patriots overcame a 20-10 deficit with just 8 minutes to go in the game. Brady threw for 255 yards, 3 TD’s, and 2 INT’s.
Randy Moss caught 9 balls for 145 yards and a TD.
Wes Welker also caught a TD pass, but
Kevin Faulk had the most significant one.
Faulk caught a game-winning 13 yard pass from Brady in the final minutes.
Meanwhile, the Colts have to be kicking themselves today as they had this game in hand in the 4th, but couldn’t close it out.
Peyton threw for 225 yards, 1 TD (1 rushing), and 1 INT. He also had a key fumble with just over two minutes to go.
Joseph Addai single-handedly kept the Colts in it on the offensive side of the ball as he had 112 rushing yards, 114 receiving yards, and a TD. The Colts are now 7-1 and will travel to
