It was a day to remember for New York’s rookie QB Mark Sanchez and Jets fans everywhere as he led his team to victory in dominating fashion. Sanchez was 18-31 for 272 yards with one touchdown and one interception as the Jets beat Houston 24-7. Those numbers are pretty impressive considering that this was his NFL debut! Jets fans can start to get excited because Sanchez is a special player who is going to be a great leader and winner for years to come. On the defensive end, the Jets completely shut down an excellent Texans offense. QB Matt Schaub was pressured all day, while RB Steve Slaton and WR Andre Johnson were constantly being covered. It looks as if New York is going to have some nice fantasy options this season, with the emergence of second year TE Dustin Keller and WR Chansi Stuckey. They will really compliment Thomas Jones, Jerricho Cotchery and the always dangerous Leon Washington.
Sometimes there really isn’t any justice in the NFL and if anyone watched the ending of the Broncos/Bengals game then you will know what I’m talking about. The miracle 87-yard touchdown reception by Denver WR Brandon Stokley on a tipped ball with under 20 seconds remaining propelled the Broncos over a Cincinnati team that fought hard to take a 7-6 lead late in the game. It was surely a devastating blow to the Bengals and not exactly the way any team would like to start their season. There wasn’t much fantasy impact in this game other than RB Cedric Benson as he ran for 76 yards and a score.
Brett Favre is a complete joke these days, but I guess as long as he’s handing the ball off to Adrian Peterson he has nothing to worry about. Favre threw for just 110 yards and a touchdown, but still led Minnesota to an easy victory over the Browns, 34-20. Favre was average at best on Sunday and although he didn’t turn the ball over at all, he won’t be much of a fantasy option this season so stay away from him.
St. Louis is still not good…………
I don’t know who or what Bears QB Jay Cutler was looking at all night, but his four interceptions against the Packers were just brutal for fantasy owners. Three of the four passes were completely unnecessary and should not have even been thrown. That being said, it’s just one week. I like Cutler a lot this season and suggest keeping him in your starting lineup. Once he realizes that he needs to start swinging the ball out to Matt Forte in the flats and throwing to Greg Olsen across the middle more, he will be fine.
Tom Brady showed he was back with a 378 yard, two touchdown performance against the Bills on Monday night. Although both touchdowns didn’t come until the last three minutes of the game, he was still looking like the Brady of 2007 completing passes all over the field. As long as he stays healthy, he will have another great year offensively.
Speaking of the Bills, I think the ETA for head coach Dick Jauron getting canned has just gotten closer. That meltdown on Monday night by Buffalo may be the cause of his demise.
After Drew Brees’ six touchdown performance against the Lions on Sunday, all receivers on the Saints should be owned in fantasy. Go grab Devery Henderson and Robert Meachem because they are both options in the high-powered New Orleans offense as shown in the 45-27 thrashing of Detroit where each player had a touchdown catch.
