Week Ten Waiver Wire Pickups Nov 6, 2007 \| More

Baseball is over, the World Series has been won, and the Waiver Wire article returns to its rightful publication date of Tuesday. Only 48 shopping days until Christmas!! And yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus and he's got four selections on this week's "Smokin Hot" list! Four guys that can step right into your starting lineup.

Don't forget to check your league rules, it may be that free agency may be ending in a few weeks. Be prepared and make sure that you have the depth that you need to keep your team in line for a playoff spot.

Let's get right into it!

Smokin' Hot

RB Justin Fargas, Oakland
The Raiders *finally* gave Fargas a chance last week and he didn't disappoint. Twenty five touches and 100 plus yards and a score has earned him the starting job from this point forward. If he can keep the job, which he should barring injury (always a possibility this season!), then I'd expect similar numbers from him on a weekly basis.

RB Priest Holmes, Kansas City
We mentioned Holmes in this space a couple of weeks ago when Kansas City put him in uniform, now it has come full circle. With Larry Johnson's status next week in question, the Chiefs will have to turn to Priest to be their starter. While the word is that Holmes won't be asked to carry a full load, with Kolby Smith as the backup, Holmes should be the primary ball carrier.

WR David Patten, New Orleans
Patten gets a promotion from the "watch list" to the "hot list" this week. Yet another 80+ yard effort to go along with hitting paydirt this past week. In his last four games, he has 81, 109, 29, and 113 yards. The Saints passing game has returned to its prolific form of a year ago and Brees to Patten has been called early and often.

WR Chris Henry, Cincinnati
Henry has been activated from the suspended list and it couldn't come at a better time. Chad Johnson was carried off the field last week, and while it looks like he won't miss much time (if any), Henry should get a chance right away to get some action even if CJ is ready to go.

Solid Pickups (aka. QBs that will be playing)

JP Losman, Buffalo
Is nearly 300 yards enough last week for Losman to reclaim the starting job in Buffalo? I say it is, but we'll have to wait for a formal announcement. The Bills have a very favorable schedule down the stretch, and the offense seems to be clicking of late (see also: Evans, Lee). Not a bad option if you need a backup for your stretch run.

Patrick Ramsey, Denver
If Jay Cutler is to miss any time, then Ramsey will be the guy behind center. Denver has a tough matchup in week 10, so only if you are in desperate need of a QB this week should you consider Ramsey.

On the Radar

RB Ron Dayne, Houston
This guy will simply not go away. Ahman Green continues to be in the trainer's room and not on the playing field, and this past week Dayne was able to register 122 yards and a touchdown. I can't find it in me to put him on the "hot list" due to the Texans starting RB being a merry-go-round to this point, however, Dayne is in the mix so those of you hard up at RB with some roster space would be wise to get him on the roster.

RB Maurice Morris, Seattle
Simply put, Shaun Alexander looks horrible. Probably a combination of numerous small injuries combined with having lost a half a step... whatever the case, Alexander owners have to be concerned from this point on. Morris is taking away snaps late in the game so he's a must have for Alexander owners that don't already have Morris on their roster.

WR Nate Washington, Pittsburgh
Though he's behind Hines Ward and Santonio Holmes on the depth chart, this two touchdown performance last night gets him onto this week's watch list. Ward hasn't been a picture of health this season and the Steelers passing game is hot right now. Washington wouldn't be a bad guy to have at the end of your bench.

Dynasty Only

RB Kolby Smith, Kansas City
There is absolutely no way that Priest Holmes can carry 100% of the load in Larry Johnson's absence. I would even go so far to say that Smith will be involved in close to 50% of the action. Playing time will benefit him in the long run as well. Don't be afraid to pay a few extra dollars to secure him on your dynasty roster.

RB Musa Smith, Baltimore
Late word from Monday night's game is that Willis McGahee suffered a concussion late in the game against the Steelers. It's doubtful that he'd miss any time, but it wouldn't hurt the astute dynasty owner to stash his backup, in this case Musa Smith, on their roster as insurance.
