Advantage Favre

It’s still too early to call, but Brett Favre seems to have the early lead in his tussle with the Packers’ front office. Packer fans everywhere were crying in their cheeseheads when their former leader threw six scores for the first time in his career last week. Meanwhile, their savior for the Green Bay offense, Aaron Rodgers, was busy getting his shoulder dislocated and looks to be a 50/50 shot to play this week. The biggest mistake the Packers front office made in all of this was not having a legitimate backup quarterback on their roster for a team that was almost a championship caliber squad. Who knows how long old man Favre continues to throw more touchdowns than interceptions but sitting at 2-2 with the Jets, Brett seems to be getting better in his new offense while Rodgers is getting hurt. Good luck with that Ted Thompson.

LaDainian Tomlinson is no longer the top fantasy running back

It happens to the best of them and Tomlinson is nearing the dreaded age of 30 which spells doom for his fantasy fortunes. Bigger than that is the amount of touches he has received over the course of his career and his body may simply be wearing down from all of the action. Now he’s battling a bad toe and while he has still managed to score a few touchdowns here and there, the days of him being counted on to produce regardless of opponent are coming to a close. His own coaches know he’s not playing at full speed and when the wins get harder to come by, you can bet your dollars that the coaching staff will play the guys who are. It’s been a great ride but you LT owners may be wise to move him once he busts off a big game or two. His Week 16 game against Tampa Bay is just another reason to consider trading him.

Plaxico Burress is a fool

A very rich fool but a fool nonetheless. I really thought this was the year that Burress would grow up and put the off-the-field distractions behind him. After playing through a tough ankle injury last year and catching the game-winning touchdown in the Super Bowl, this was primed to be his year to dominate. I have often thought that Burress can be as good as he wants to be. The problem is he doesn’t consistently want to be good. How else can you rationalize him taking plays off and running poor routes? He’s Randy Moss light. Eli has already been spotted chewing him out for not running the proper routes and make no mistake, this is Eli’s team now. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the other receivers (Amani Toomer, Steve Smith) start out-producing him on a regular basis, even when he returns from his team imposed suspension.
