Reyes trade talks are starting to heat up, if a trade goes down you might see some prospects from maybe SF, CIN, or LAA later on this season, so you'll want to keep an eye on that.

It's nowhere near the tank dyno but I finally threw in the towel on Brandon Allen in my salary cap keeper, still scuffling - I'm afraid at best he gets a trial late in the year and if he doesn't blow up the job's going to be Goldschmidt's to lose.

I haven't understood the 1B situation in arizona all year. Allen has next to nothing to prove at the AAA level, but continues to wallow away down there. Juggernauts like Branyan and Miranda who have both been sup-par continue to get the nod. There must be something that we're not seeing on this end with him....but you're right. Goldy appears to be closing in on that job in 2012.

It's reminding me a lot of the Royals treatment of Kila Monster, Allen will get a month at the end of the year and next April and if he doesn't do it the hot prospect in waiting gets the job.

I can finally discuss this one....but Juan Nicasio from the Rockies is certainly worth noting. Granted, he's progressed slowly (he's 24), but watching him last year, he's figured something out. In Tulsa (AA), he's got video game numbers through his first 6 starts-and the Southern League isn't exactly picther friendly. 5-1 2.02 ERA 35.2 IP 33H 6 BB, 47 K. 4 pitches, sits low to mid 90's, and FB touched 98 a few starts ago.
With the Rockies struggling at the back-end, and with absolutely noone throwing the ball well in AAA, he could be on a short list for a promotion. They'll want to see where he's at in a month or so, but given his age and recent surge-it could be sooner rather than later.

And I can talk about this one now too....

Gary Brown, OF (SF)

Last year, 1st round pick. through the first month plus at San Jose (Cal League):

.358, 2HR, 27 RBI, 18 SB.

Every scouting report i read on him going into the year read the same. Plus defender, below average contact rate, no plate discipline. He's got 11BB and 19K to this point, both rather respectable.

Oh, and the rest of the scouting reports always read the same "One of, if not THE fastest baseball players we've ever seen".

Still a ways off, but put him in the memory bank. Could be a nice leadoff guy down the road.

Danny Duffy is showing that he might be the most ready pitcher in the minors for the Royals to come up. With the exception of two games in Albuquerque, Duffy has dominated AAA competition. His stuff is not as good as Lamb and Montgomery however he is able show that he might be ready for the next step up while the other's continue to work out their kinks. Not sure if he starts in long relief or in the rotation but we could see him soon.

In other Royals news, Jake Ordorizzi has looked good in high A to the tune of 2.42 and 38ks in 26 innings.

The M's are going to call up OF Mike Wilson today.

Nothing more than a flier although he does have a little pop.

He's being called up to a team that has hit Adam Kennedy in the 3 hole for half the season, this guy could be their All-Star representative by default!

As a kind of related side note, if you suck at baseball and your last name is Wilson, the Mariners will find a place for you on their 25 man roster.

yes. Peguero's a guy with a ton of pop. and a ton of K. i won't spoil the surprise. look up his track record.

he was up for a cup of coffee earlier, and there is some potential there.

The Royals and Braves in particular have a ton of quality minor league pitching. Odorizzi should get moved up in a month or so.

Promotions in the minors are strange and somewhat political in trying to "appease" the minor league team owner - a lot of times major league teams wait until after the first half of the minor league season if there's a 1'st half champion and the lower level minor league team in question is in contention before making the move.

I'd also like to see John Lamb get bounced up to AAA if/when the Royals get around to calling up Duffy or Montgomery.

You can probably toss the Rays in there too as a team with minor league pitching depth and after this years June entry draft, they'll definitely be in that picture with their 10 selections out of the first 61 overall picks.
