The oldest didn't want to fish. Ok, fine.

The younger boy was a pro with the spinning reel. Add in the nanovis line, and he was throwing the bait pretty far. He did much better this time with his "patience" while watching the bobber.

Ultimately, they figured out they could swim in the little man made cove off the river (designed to have just enough current to keep the water from getting stagnant). At that point, they were done with fishing.

One idea is to have the kids fish with grass hoppers they catch around the lake. The kids get to run around a little chasing grasshoppers and the trout love them. win win

Thanks for the Beavers Bend idea, the wife's sisters were wanting to do a family weekend (5 couples plus kids). The place they wanted was booked the weekends everybody was available (lake Murray).

Glad you caught a few :Drink)

i went fishing last night for about an hour. down to the river and the spill over dam. throwing ratltraps with the bottom hook clipped so i'm not snagging into rough fish all day long. nothing. the walleye are usually up there and feeding but we've gotten so much rain it was all chocolate milky. still snagged into about 5 fish....2 of them were monsters...either spoon bills or carp. i was able to shake off all of them. the spoon bill almost took all my line off.

That is a beautiful remote area... with tons of cabins. Trout below the dam, pretty good bass fishery above. Can also float the lower mountain fork on down from the trout area .. Cabins range from cheap, and a place to stay to some fancy houses and bed and breakfast. Other than Memorial day, 4th of July, and Labor day, the lake is fairly uncrowded. I think below the dam gets a bit more use. If you happen to hit Owa Chito festival (in June), free concert at the amphitheater. Not sure who is coming this year, but i've seen Mark Chestnut, Restless Heart, and Darryl Worley. It's a good time. Abendigo's makes a decent steak, and Girls Gone Wine makes some pretty tasty Okie wine, and they also sell a ton of trinketry.

went out to the in laws today. they have a private lake on their land stocked with everything form large mouth Bass to Sun Fish to Catfish.
the water was pretty clear today, and saw a couple of large mouth bass about 18 inches long. wasn't able to snag any of those though.

did catch a couple of descent sunfish though

Brother-in-Law and I, took my daughters and his son to the river this morning.
We caught a few drums and a couple of channel cats, all of decent size.

I had a pole that had been in the water untouched for an hour, so the nephew reels it in just to check it and tosses it back in and lies it on the bank against a rock.

I walked away from where I was sitting, to check a snag on my daughters line. I no more than got over there, when something big hit it, and I turned in time to see it disappearing under the bridge pylon, sinking in the muddy water.

Just glad it was the cheap Wal-mart pole

Thats gut wrenching on a couple levels, 10ball even though it was a cheaper rod/reel. Just sucks period but its fun to talk about.

I need to get the SD card out of the camera. Keep forgetting.
