Hey Who, can I just start watching it this season. I'm willing to give this show a run but I really don't have the time to watch the 3,729 episodes that have already aired.

If I can just start watching it now without any need for the back story will I be lost?

LMFAO

You can start now, DF. There is a back story but I can fill you in and get you up to speed or you could watch the special recap the hour before the season premiere or you could watch the marathon from the episode The Eleventh Hour up to the Christmas Special called A Christmas Carol .

The gist of series 5 was there's cracks in the universe which are composed of raw time energy and "silence will fall". The cracks are from the TARDIS exploding erasing all of time. The Doctor has a way of restoring every aspect of the universe and indeed does restore it. (end series 5) What caused the TARDIS to explode is where the series will pick up.

Amy (the key to series 5 with more to come) is traveling with the Doctor. Her husband, now (Rory) is too. (Professor) River Song is a mystery/protagonist woman to the Doctor. She's a new reoccurring character (since series 4 with David Tennant as the Doctor) and will be in the premiere. She's a time traveler as well. She has no TARDIS of her own. She uses a vortex manipulator. She just shows up now and again on. The Doctor and River Song keep meeting but in the wrong order. She knows the Doctors history and calls them "spoilers". Stories with her in it are epic and outstanding. This will be the 4th 2 parter with her in it.

I do recommend the special before the season premiere on Saturday. You'll see much more than I could explain about the back stories and their influences to the plot line.

Okay just loaded the Eleventh Hour season (marathon starting at 3:00 am on 4/23) and the Christmas Carol special into the DVR and then set up the season pass for the new Dr. Who season.

They are doing something different with the show this year. They're breaking the season into halves. 7 episodes to start, then they break in June. The 7th story will have a huge cliff hanger. The next 6 episodes will be shown beginning in September I think. No word as to when exactly they second half of the season will start.

One thing, DF...I hope they don't chop the crap out of The Eleventh Hour and The Christmas Carol. They run longer than a normal episode by about 15 minutes. BBC-America cuts nearly 23 minutes from those stories to get them to fit into the hour time frame. They're not the same as the full story.

Doctor Who actress Elisabeth Sladen dies

Quote:
Doctor Who actress Elisabeth Sladen, who also starred in the spin-off series The Sarah Jane Adventures, has died.

Sladen joined the BBC television series in 1973 as Doctor Who's assistant Sarah Jane Smith.

In more recent times the Liverpool-born actress went on to appear in four series of The Sarah Jane Adventures on children's channel CBBC.

Yeah, when I started watching Doctor Who, Tom Baker (in DF's pic) was the Doctor (4th). Sarah Jane Smith, played by Liz Sladen was his companion. Her stamp on the show is unmistakable. She appeared in the new series and she even had her own series called The Sarah Jane Adventures. Many, many fans vote her as best companion in the history of Doctor Who. She died today at 63 of cancer.

Shrug - non stop episodes from now until 1:30 am PT

Only one show interrupting it - and it will be talking about Dr. Who - so I say it has already started
