Asked yesterday on ESPN Radio in New York if he was in the same quarterbacking tier as reigning league MVP Tom Brady of the Patriots, Manning responded:

"I consider myself in that class, and Tom Brady is a great quarterback, he's a great player. And what you've seen with him is he's gotten better every year, and he started off winning championships, and I think he's a better quarterback now than what he was, in all honesty, when he was winning those championships.

C'mon, really?

Not really. I mean he DID beat Brady in the Superbowl right? I think that alone gives him the right to say it.

Sorry, but Brady is considerably better that Eli. He didn't beat him one on one, hell if not for a circus catch of a bad pass (that Eli threw) they would have lost.

while Eli does hold a 1 - 0 record in the Super Bowl against Brady:

League MVPs: Brady 2, Manning 0
Pro Bowls: Brady 6, Manning 1
Career passer rating: Brady 95.2, Manning 80.2
The Top 100 Players of 2011 (ranked by NFL players on NFL Network): Brady - No. 1, Manning - unranked

i dont see him as a top tier QB.

Are you gonna draft Eli ahead of Brady in your draft?

of course brady is better than eli, and i'm sure that eli knows that. but what do you expect him to say, especially if he's asked the question?

"yeah, tom's better than me, and i can only hope to achieve his level of awesomeness in my lifetime" ?

this is a non-story, and non-issue. there's not a person on earth who thinks that he's better, even archie.

Guys, I'm not saying Eli is better than Brady. But do you expect him to say "Brady is so much better than me..." Of course not. Its not like Rex Grossman said he is in the same tier as Brady. And yes, I will draft Eli before Brady, because at their ADP, Manning is better value.

i do think and agree that QB's need to have confidence in themselves .. they are the leaders have to get their teams behind them .... i have no issue with that at all ....

i just think you can exude confidence and show leadership in other ways than comparing yourself to one of the top tier QB's.

I think if you read the article and the quote for what it is then you wouldn't have such a problem with it. You also gotta remember that Eli isn't very articulate or thoughtful so you have to adjust the comments accordingly.

the interviewer asked him if he considered himself a top-tier QB. he's not going to tell him that he's not. and eli acknowledges the fact that brady is as good as it gets.

i'm not an eli fan, supporter, etc....but this is ESPN trying to make something out of nothing, again.

Agree. Kay asked if he was top 5 or ten, yet ESPN (Mike and Mike this morning) dropped the ten and kept saying "top five". Alos agree with above comments that you can hardly say no to this question regardless of how you feel.

Delusion is a very under-rated quality in players. Now if the coach thinks Eli as good as Tom Brady, that's a problem.

This doesn't make sense to me. I don't disagree with the ADP and value but you can't draft Eli AFTER Brady if you use their ADP. If Brady fell to Eli's ADP would you really select Eli over Brady?

He's a superbowl quarterback, and from the sounds of it he is just trying to say that he'd like to continue improving just as Brady did after winning his Super Bowl titles.
