Quote:
One of the worst contracts any NFL team has given a player in recent years was the deal the Raiders gave cornerback DeAngelo Hall in 2008. That year, Hall got a $7 million signing bonus and had already made $1 million in base salary when the Raiders cut him midway through the season. Hall says that’s a big part of the reason he doesn’t need to play for money anymore.

Hall, who went to Washington after leaving Oakland and is now on his third contract with the Redskins, said in an interview with Andrew Siciliano on NFL Network that it didn’t bother him when Washington cut him in March and then re-signed him to a contract that paid him far less than he had been scheduled to make. Hall says that after making all that money in Oakland, money doesn’t need to be his top priority anymore.

“I’ve been blessed,” Hall said. “I’ve been in this league a long time, I’ve made a lot of money – I got $8 million to play eight games in Oakland. So for me this time around it wasn’t about the money.”

Way to wear your worst performance period of your life as a badge of honor and diss the former team in public, rather than counting your blessings that it worked out for you pretty well in private.

Is there some bitterness in me talking, probably but to see a guy trying to spin the fact that he needs to take a paycut to stay on the team into a holier than thou attitude is sickening.

Bitterness...yea sounds like you have alot of it. Attitude sickening? Wow i don't see anything sickening about what he said. He told the truth. Damn you have to be trying very hard if you spin this into something bad.

What else would you expect from DeAngelo Hall? He's a POS.

I admitted bitterness already.

Holier than thou attitude is a bit overmuch, but how do you define spinning "forced to take a paycut and spinning it in public like I do not need money". I would be totally fine with the rest of his statements, except the need to bring his Raider history in the past.

Why not stay classy and just say "I have made (a lot of) money in the past, and I am comfortable making less at this juncture. if it helps the team".

Admit his statement opened old wounds, but he definitely did not come out classy. Might have reacted with a lot less bitterness for a different player making similar comments about a different team, but the crassness of the statement remains regardless of the name of the player mentioning it.

This is DeAngelo Hall. He probably can't spell "classy" never mind act like it.

To me it didn't sound like he was intentionally trying to clown the Raiders or the organization. But i can see where you are coming from if you are saying he's trying to mask the fact that he has to take a pay cut by mentioning his past with the Raiders.

Still not as bad as Aaron Ross saying he was on vacation in Jacksonville. He's a piece of work too.

Exactly. Mask your need to take a paycut to stay on the team, by talking about your current organization and your interest in working for them. No Problem with that. There's no need to mention any former teams where you may have made more money deservedly or not. Plus, I think he probably made more with the Falcons (admittedly over a longer period). Hence the reason I took it as a dig against the Raiders.

It should be a shameful period for him where he drastically under-performed enough that he got cut after 8 games. Would I be grateful in private that I received a ton of money for under performing? Yes. But I would rather not highlight that in public.

Dis-respect towards the team, teammates and ultimately self. Not sure why they would be vocal of such feelings in public. Guess they just do not care for their teams/teammates, and their image, after getting their payload.

I miss seeing Hall try to keep Steve Smith out of his head.

Had to look it up: 2007 game Hall drew 3 penalties trying to cover Smith on ONE DRIVE for 67 yards.

One of the most over-rated guys in the last decade. Hall couldn't cover a wideout at the Sumer Camp for the Fat and Asthmatic.
