Could have been resolved if the Skins and Boys had just not done what they were told not to do.
You mean they should have colluded with the rest of the owners and put an artificial cap on an uncapped year?
Why should anyone follow imaginary and ILLEGAL rules? They were told to break the law
! Colluding to keep salaries low is against US anti-trust law because the CBA stated there was no cap!
Newsflash - if someone at my company told me to misrepresent numbers even if everyone agreed to do it I wouldn't do it because it is unethical and ILLEGAL! How would you feel if your company and all its competitors agreed to keep the wages of people in your industry illegally below market level? The union agrees to a cap as part of a CBA. If there is no cap, the league (companies) cannot collude to create a cap! Without a CBA YOU CANT HAVE A CAP.
I agree completely with you.
The fact that the union is going along with it doesn't make it right, it just means the union got something in return.
The fact that the owners are the ones driving it, not goodell, also doesn't make it right. It further proves collusion.
The owners were worried about it becoming similar to baseball with the Yankees, so they illegally colluded to prevent extra spending. The cowboys and redskins are as close to the Yankees in terms of revenue, so they tried to get some extra spending in.
I disagree with punishment and especially the way it is being handled. That said, I at least appreciate that they are only punished based on what they actually saved, not draft picks. It at least feels fair, if it is upheld as legal.
