This is ridiculous. These teams are getting punished for following the cap rules of 2010 and retroactively being punished for doing nothing wrong.

I hope Roger Goodell dies a painful agonizing death. Seriously. I hate him and hope he dies.

The Redskins and Cowboys did NOTHING WRONG. 2010 was an uncapped year. So the teams set it up so they spent money as if it was an uncapped year - which is perfectly logical. Now the NFL is aiming to punish them for not colluding with the rest to keep salaries down. COMPLETELY RIDICULOUS.

Yep, Danny should be allowed to do anything he wants, regardless of beinqbr warned many, many times. I hope he never sells the team and takes over GM duties and starts calling plays too.

May Jerruh and Danny own for a hundred years.

So the Redskins and Cowboys broke an imaginary rule to allow the NFL to break actual federal laws against anti-trust collusion. And the only reason this isn't being brought to trial by the NFLPA is because Demaurice Smith is an incompetent moron.

You are rectroactively punishing teams for breaking a cap that did not exist. Did baseball punish players for taking steroids before it was against the league rooms to take PEDs?

Only the NFL and Roger Goodell goes around making up rules as they go and punishing players and teams for random freaking reasons. There's no logic. It's all at the whims of this psychopath. The guy is like an African dictator.

#STOPGOODELL2012

This was all down to the executive and competitions commitee's - both of which are run and chaired by owners.

Goodell's guilty of some things and is no saint, but this aint a one of them though.

Its the owners that drove this one.

If irate WAS & DAL fans want to point the finger, its at the members of both those commitees of which Step[hen Jones is on both, so he knew something was coming their way ...

It's the players union (and the government) that should be upset.

Further news on the cap hits:

PFT wrote:
A league source tells PFT that the teams will be required to absorb at least half of the cap consequences in 2012. For the Cowboys, it means $5 million in lost cap room. For the Redskins, $18 million disappears.

They can each choose to absorb more of the cap penalty in 2012, or they can push all of the other half to 2013.

In contrast, the teams that received the $1.643 million cap credit (which comes from the Cowboys/Redskins’ lost cap space) can use split it up however they choose over the next two seasons. Every franchise except the Raiders and Saints receives the extra credit.

Could have been resolved if the Skins and Boys had just not done what they were told not to do.

You mean they should have colluded with the rest of the owners and put an artificial cap on an uncapped year?

Why should anyone follow imaginary and ILLEGAL rules? They were told to break the law! Colluding to keep salaries low is against US anti-trust law because the CBA stated there was no cap!

Newsflash - if someone at my company told me to misrepresent numbers even if everyone agreed to do it I wouldn't do it because it is unethical and ILLEGAL! How would you feel if your company and all its competitors agreed to keep the wages of people in your industry illegally below market level? The union agrees to a cap as part of a CBA. If there is no cap, the league (companies) cannot collude to create a cap! Without a CBA YOU CANT HAVE A CAP.

I agree completely with you.

The fact that the union is going along with it doesn't make it right, it just means the union got something in return.

The fact that the owners are the ones driving it, not goodell, also doesn't make it right. It further proves collusion.

The owners were worried about it becoming similar to baseball with the Yankees, so they illegally colluded to prevent extra spending. The cowboys and redskins are as close to the Yankees in terms of revenue, so they tried to get some extra spending in.

I disagree with punishment and especially the way it is being handled. That said, I at least appreciate that they are only punished based on what they actually saved, not draft picks. It at least feels fair, if it is upheld as legal.

First, I completely agree on the questionable legality of what occurred and validity of the punishment enforced.

BUT....

All 32 owners agreed to do this behind closed doors, then the Wonder Boys who think they are bigger than they are: Danny Boy and Jerruh, thumbed their noses at their fellow owners and did whatever the hell they wanted. It's no surprise that Al "anti-establishment" Davis did the same thing (although I'm surprised he didn't take more advantage), and by now, we all know Tom Benson is clueless and Mickey Loomis plays by his own rules, so we shouldn't really be shocked at their inclusion as well.

The only thing this story proves is there really is no honor among billionaires.

Cowboys restructured the contracts of CB Orlando Scandrick and RT Doug Free to create $8.56 million in salary cap space.
Along with the releases of Terence Newman and David Buehler, the Cowboys have freed up $15.82 million following Monday's cap hit from the league office. Scandrick will take $5.9 million of his $7.1 million salary in the form of a signing bonus. Free's base salary dropped from $6 million to $1.2 million, with the difference coming in a signing bonus.

And with that? Jerruh has done away with the league hit and is back at the races with between $7.5 - $5mill in extra cap space (depending on if he wants to pay the whole hit or not, or just free up the room while he challenges it in case he loses)

Business as usual in DAL

The 49ers had a dynasty over the cap paying luxury taxes for years......
I dont know what all the hoopla is about....I'm quite certain Bruce Allen had some clue that something like this would happen (thank you Vinny Cerrato) to some degree.....
This is a non-issue for the Redskins longterm plans.....fans and haters alike need to take a chill pill.....
we will be more competetive than the haters want us to be... :thumbright:

Either they broke league rules, or they didn't. If they did, why did the league approve the contracts?

If they didn't, how can the league penalize them?

If I were the Skins and Cowboys I'd ignore the penalty and file a lawsuit.
