2008 ~ Who Won Your League?


History
The first league formed from among the FantasySharks community, the Über League, was conceived April 18, 2003. One of its founding members, PrimeMover, found himself disappointed by his then competition, and quickly found that 11 members were happy to oblige in forming a group of true competitors in a unique and challenging format. Of course, even in earlier times, the community had far more than 12 hungry competitors, and the Guber and Not-Über-Guber Leagues immediately followed.

This spirit of competition flourished within the community, quickly becoming host to many more leagues, a number of which with unique and particularly challenging features. All sharing a common origin and spirit, it was only natural that a single symbol of excellence be created for the champions of these leagues. In 2005, long-time community fixture and graphic design expert Paddler began design of this symbol at the request of the then Über commissioner, CleffedUp. Nearly two years later, on July 22, 2006, on agreement by a majority of the Community League leadership, that symbol was finally born.

This as yet to be named trophy prominently features a shark in the Heisman style: The helmeted shark stares back at you while moving forward with its powerful (and ironic) legs, football firm in one fin, and a "stiff-arm" with the other. Its smaller form is presented in championship gold, adding text and a watery background to Paddler's original design. Its whimsy is only outdone by the ease of its recognition as a symbol of individual excellence in competition.

With this post, I unlock this topic!

This activity, like so many others here in the tank exemplifies what can be accomplished when good people put together good ideas in meaningful ways. It's a microcosm of the values that were built into FantasySharks.com from the very beginning. Build a community dedicated to fantasy sports that can help each other and advance the hobby. The Tank continuously innovates, evolves and regenerates. It truly is an incubator for the game and all that surrounds it.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank a few of our board leaders, in particular Cleffed and Paddler. Both continuously strive to make this place the best it can be and we all owe them both a tremendous debt of gratitude.

This 'little' area of the forum started off as an area to skim off all the "Looking for 1 more owner" posts in the Main Tank but like everything around here, grew it's own personality and evolved into so much more. It's a reflection of both what we're trying to build here and the fine people that choose to spend some time with us.

These special champion trophies exist to recognize hard work and talent in the tank. Where them like a badge of honor for that is exactly what they are as you're a part of a community that rewards and respects excellence.

Release the sharks!

Never having been one of them, I'm certainly open to the idea of a "Heap of Chumps" elsewhere. :lol: Maybe Paddler can design a shark in "The Porcelain Thinker" pose.

No problem Cleffed. Tony's post made me wanna do more (there's nothing as motivating as getting props from a fellow Shark).

Maybe we should have a naming contest for the Heissman-Shark?

It should be named the Tony Holm Trophy or it should be named after the first champion of the Uber League (the first champion of the first community league 8) ) I win the contest! How much sand$$ did I win? :lol:

I nominate Jacques Cousteau (sp?).

My thought being that who pretty much taught us all, with those National Geographic specials, that sharks were the powerful and cool predators that they are. At least I thought those specials were pretty cool.
