What is the typical roster size and starting lineup you guys use for a 10 man league?

I would want a roster of 25 and start 10 at least.

FWIW though, I like playing in IDP leagues and very deep rosters so wait and see what others say too. I am not normal.

I'd probably go 10/20 with:

1QB
2RB
3WR
1TE
1 Flex (RB/WR/TE)
1K
1DEF

I'd imagine the average roster usages per team would be:
2.5 QB
5.5 RB
6.5 WR
2 TE
1.5 K
2 DEF

So approximately the following would be rostered:

25 QB
55 RB
65 WR
20 TE
15 K
20 DEF

That leaves some talent in the free agency pool but not so much that trades wouldn't be useful.

You could consider doing a 2QB league but personally I hate that as it just makes QB too dominant for the most part.

Try to make your starting lineup big enough that just falling into 1 dominant player doesn't make the league too unbalanced and large enough that teams have to have a hole at some position a bit. That creates more demand for strategical drafting and team-building and spurs trades by teams working to fill weaknesses from positions of strength.

Also, make your bench big enough that they can fill bye weeks but not so big that there's no talent on the waiver wire.

Here's what has been discussed as our solution....15 spots on roster....qb,rb,rb,wr,wr,flex(wr/rb),te,k,def and 6 bench. I think we're going to try it for a year or two and see what happens.

You comfortable with having to cut guys to fill bye weeks? That's a short bench. Make sure that you don't have guys trying to loan players to fill byes.

Also, I'd recommend another WR or another Flex and I'd allow TE as a Flex spot nowadays. Why punish someone if they have the Gronk/Graham combo of 2012?

I figure most owners will only carry 1 def and 1 kicker....so that gives you 6 bench guys for 7 offensive spots...you should be able to plug bye weeks with an 90%ish or higher bench to starter ratiotm

IR spot? You might want to allow 1 with a short bench.

The upside in small overall rosters is that FA should be active. I wouldn't expect too much as far as trades though so if that's disappointing for you then you may want to review your numbers.
