Playoff Controversy

My opponent claims he did not want to play Owen Daniels (1.4pts) last night and wants to be able to plug in his backup TE. My opponent also happens to be a friend of mine. He claims that he didn't know that the Texans game was last night and that he didn't want to play Daniels...of course he claims all this today. My commish said it is up to me. I don't want it to be switched but I also don't want my friend to feel cheated.

What is the right thing to do?

If your opponent is over the age of 10, and doesn't have a physical or mental handicap that prevents him from understanding an NFL schedule and setting his own line-up, you should enjoy your impending victory.

Is this a money league?

I say Daniels has to stay in his line-up. The NFL has been playing Thursday night games for at least 5 weeks. I'm sure this isn't the first time he has had a player play on Thursday night.

It's his responsibility to manage his team.

Weak commish since there is no decision. You play with the lineup you set. As for your "friend", you may want to reevalaute.

The commish said it was up to you? #1 the commish sucks. #2 your friend is trying to hustle you. Tell him to suck it, and after you win send him an autographed picture of Owen Daniels for XMas.

That's an obvious hustle if I've ever seen one. If Daniels scores double digit points do you think your friend says anything? Wake up buddy.

Then that is 100% on your friend. It is his responsibility to know the NFL schedule, end of story.

Your friend has no right to feel cheated. On the other hand, if the lineup is switched, you would have EVERY right to feel cheated.

Had Daniels had a big game last night, you think he'd still be crying foul? Of course not.

Also, the fact that the commissioner is even entertaining the idea of allowing this makes him a bad commissioner. This isn't even close to a legit reason to allow a post-game lineup switch. Your friend is the only one causing controversy here, and the commissioner simply has to understand that. Instead, the commissioner is only compounding the issue.

That really made me laugh....We have the same problem in our league in years past so we made a rule if you dont call in a change to the comish then whoever is locked into your line up when the games start on Thursday are locked in your line up.....Had Owens gone off for 100 yards and 2 tds I doubt your buddy would be begging to switch him out....Im lucky enough that my oppenent started owens too!!!

I don't think there is any League that doesn't list the times and dates of every game, and some are even highlighted for Thursday nights. It's the SUPERBOWL, i'm sure he checked it at least once this week (and maybe lost sleep over it). Buy him a drink with your winnings.

Tell him, "The commish said it's up to me (look at him with a big smile), I'll tell you what, let's make a deal (another big smile). Since it's in the rules, once you set your line-up it can't be changed, my decision would be no change (straight face). But, since your my friend (big smile), here's the deal. I'll tell the commish to change your TE player, ONLY, IF you give me 90% of your 1st or 2nd place winnings (extremely straight face). Now the decision is up to you, not me"

Let him talk 1st. :Drink)

right thing to do is to say, " hope this taught you a lesson to pay attention to your line up better during the playoffs " if you change it for him then you have to do it for everyone and it is a smack in the face to the other managers..

i could see a " controvercy" if his TE was injured and def. not playing but since were talking Daniels who is the top receiver on the team and was ruled " in " the afternoon before the game then he's SOL.

A real friend would not have asked and put you on the spot like this.
The commish needs to grow a pair and enforce the rules.
Would make me wonder what other sidedeals or favors the commish did
Long story short. The lineup stays as is and if you lose your friend over it, he wasn`t worth hanging onto in the first place
