Cardinals officials are reportedly "concerned" that linebacker Gerald Hayes' bad back hasn't improved during the offseason.

Coach Ken Whisenhunt hasn't expressed worry publicly, but Hayes' role is more important than ever this year with Karlos Dansby gone. The Cardinals don't have great depth at linebacker, so this could be a big problem for their rush defense.

A league sources tells Profootballtalk.com that Cardinals ILB Gerald Hayes (back) is "fine."

Hayes has been sitting out practices this offseason, and a recent report suggested the team was starting to grow concerned about his bulging disc. Hayes received one cortizone shot, and it reportedly "worked perfect." He missed the past week's OTAs while taking his grandmother to Egypt.

Cardinals beat reporter Darren Urban confirms that the team is not overly concerned with the health of ILB Gerald Hayes' back.

This report backs up a similar one from Profootballtalk.com late last week. "They expect Hayes to be OK," writes Urban. Citing a league source, PFT stated that Hayes' back is "fine." The Cardinals are counting on Hayes to mentor rookie Daryl Washington while helping to fill Karlos Dansby's shoes.
