Profootballtalk.com reports that there's "increasing chatter" in league circles that Asante Samuel and the Saints have worked out a deal.
One problem with tampering is that teams sometimes lose verbal agreements when the real thing starts. It fortuiosly happened to the Eagles in 2006 when they thought they had LeCharles Bentley signed. Samuel may have a great offer from New Orleans, but another team could always jump in.

The New Orleans Times-Picayune disputes reports that the Saints have emerged as the "frontrunners" to sign free agent Asante Samuel.
The Saints are $30 million under the cap, but much will go to extensions for Marques Colston, Will Smith, and Jahri Evans. Still, they need a corner badly with Mike McKenzie (torn ACL) on the mend and Jason David incompetent.
