Tony Richardson-RB-Vikings Mar. 3 - 10:38 am et

In addition to the Jets, the Rams have shown interest in free agent FB Tony Richardson.

We're heading to wave two of free agency. Richardson spent time with new Rams offensive coordinator Al Saunders in Kansas City. He's 36 years old.

Dewayne Robertson-DL-Jets Mar. 3 - 12:06 pm et

The agent for DT Dewayne Robertson says no trade involving his client has been completed.

"We have not agreed to a contract, not by any stretch," the agent said. The Bengals and Jets are believed to have agreed on compensation, but the deal hinges on Robertson getting a new deal. It shouldn't be a major obstacle.

Kris Jenkins-DL-Jets Mar. 3 - 1:25 pm et

Kris Jenkins' five-year contract with the Jets is actually for $30.25 million. It includes a $4.5 million signing bonus.

It was initially reported as a $35 million pact with $20 million in bonuses, but only $9.5 million (his total 2008 take) is guaranteed. Jenkins will be weighed ten times per season and paid $25,000 each time he makes his weight. The NY Daily News reports Jenkins finished last year weighing 390 pounds.

Brendon Ayanbadejo-LB-Bears Mar. 3 - 2:00 pm et

In addition to OL Damien Woody, free agent LB Brendon Ayanbadejo is visiting with the Jets on Monday.

If Ayanbadejo is serious about playing more on defense, this probably isn't the place he wants to be. It's the special teamer's first known visit.

Report: Robertson deal to Bengals called off

A deal that would've sent Jets DT Dewayne Robertson to the Bengals in exchange for fourth- and fifth-round picks has reportedly been called off.

It's the second deal for an interior tackle Cincinnati has missed out on. The trade hinged on Robertson signing a long-term deal with the Bengals, but he balked at reducing his remaining salaries ($6.8 million in 2008 and $4.5 million in '09). The Jets will likely continue to shop the 26-year-old.

Jets ink OLB Pace for six years, $42 million

Jets signed LB Calvin Pace to a six-year, $42 million contract. The deal includes $22 million in guarantees and a $20 million signing bonus.

We love Pace's potential, but this is insane money for a player that's had one legitimately good season. The Dolphins and Cardinals weren't going to go this high. Pace will likely play weak outside linebacker in New York opposite LOLB Bryan Thomas. He could approach double digit sacks at that position. Mar. 3 - 3:31 pm et

Damien Woody-T- Jets Mar. 3 - 4:07 pm et

Jets signed RT Damien Woody to a five-year, $25.5 million contract. The deal includes $11 million in guarantees.

In theory, Woody should be an upgrade over Anthony Clement, but we doubt anyone else would've paid this much. Like fellow acquisition Kris Jenkins, Woody has a history of weight issues. He's also coming off shoulder surgery.

Chad Pennington-QB-Jets Mar. 4 - 10:38 am et

The NY Daily News suggests that the Jets' free agent spending frenzy shows they're in win-now mode and could start Chad Pennington at QB in 2008.

The Jets have signed up to pay $138 million, including over $63 million in guarantees, in the last four days. GM Mike Tannenbaum says he's not trying for a "quick fix" and that the signings were made with the future in mind.

Dewayne Robertson-DL-Jets Mar. 4 - 10:32 am et

The Bengals reportedly may have backed out of their proposed trade for Jets DT Dewayne Robertson due to a bone-on-bone condition in his knee.

The Bengals may have balked at giving him a long-term deal because of the knee. Robertson recently also had hand surgery, but that was a non-issue.

Chad Pennington-QB-Jets Mar. 5 - 8:46 am et

If he returns, Chad Pennington will receive a bump in his '08 salary, from $4.8 million to $6 million.

His cap number balloons to $9 million, which is prohibitive for a backup quarterback. If Pennington isn't going to be given a legit chance to start over Kellen Clemens, it's going to be hard to hang onto him at his current salary.

Dewayne Robertson-DL-Jets Mar. 9 - 10:29 am et

A source tells the New York Post that DT Dewayne Robertson is "50-50" to return to the Jets this year.

After nearly completing a trade that would've sent Robertson to the Bengals, it would be a little awkward to have him back on the team. To stay with the Jets, Robertson would likely have to restructure his contract.

Jets sign former 'Fin Chatman for one year

Jets signed RB Jesse Chatman to a one-year contract.

Chatman, 28, revived his career in Miami last year, gaining 515 yards on 128 carries in six starts, with 27 catches. For depth, we'd pencil him in right behind Thomas Jones, though Chatman and Leon Washington would likely split duties if Jones goes down. The move makes the Jets a bit less likely to draft Darren McFadden. Chatman (5'8/222) can be a bruiser, but scored only one TD in 2007 and shouldn't be a major short-yardage threat.

Hank Poteat-DB-Jets May. 2 - 9:40 am et

The Jets are close re-signing veteran free agent CB Hank Poteat.
The Jets don't have a clear cut starter opposite Darrelle Revis, and Poteat started eight games last season. The team also remains interested in DB Ty Law, but his return to New York seems unlikely at this point.

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP) - The New York Jets re-signed veteran cornerback Hank Poteat to a one-year deal Tuesday.

Poteat was an unrestricted free agent. He spent the last two seasons with the Jets and played in every game, notching a career-high 45 tackles while starting nine games. Poteat had the first two interceptions of his eight-year NFL career in consecutive games last season against Philadelphia's Donovan McNabb and Cincinnati's Carson Palmer.

The 30-year-old Poteat is expected to give the Jets' secondary some depth along with starter Darrelle Revis, fourth-round pick Dwight Lowery and veterans David Barrett, Justin Miller and Andre Woolfolk.

A third-round pick out of Pittsburgh in 2000, Poteat has also played for Tampa Bay and New England.
