Yeah baby!!

We released Rouen.

Seattle releases veteran P Rouen

KIRKLAND, Wash. (AP) -- The Seattle Seahawks released veteran punter Tom Rouen on Monday, after the 13-year veteran played in 12 games for the NFC champions last year.

Rouen signed with Seattle on Oct. 5, taking over for Leo Araguz, who was released. Rouen averaged 41.6 yards on 62 kicks, including 20 punts downed inside the 20-yard line. In the playoffs, Rouen averaged 45.4 yards on 15 kicks, including a 50.2-yard average in Seattle's 21-10 loss to Pittsburgh in the Super Bowl.

Rouen played in 16 games for Seattle in 2003 and four games in 2004 before being sidelined with a hamstring injury. He averaged 41.5 yards per kick in his 32 games with Seattle.

The 38-year-old Rouen originally entered the league in 1991 with the New York Giants as an undrafted free agent and then played nine-plus seasons for Denver. He also played for the Giants and Pittsburgh in 2002.

Associated Press
8/5/2006

Quote:
CHENEY, Wash. (AP) -The defending NFC champions made huge progress during their first and only full-scale training camp scrimmage.

They finished it.

One day after coach Mike Holmgren angrily kicked his Seahawks off the practice field 30 minutes before drills were to end, Seattle got through its entire, 90-minute, full-contact scrimmage Saturday.

``I think when guys went back to their rooms (Friday night), everyone thought long and hard and were not happy with what happened,'' Pro Bowl quarterback Matt Hasselbeck said after completing five of 12 passes for 63 yards and a two touchdowns against the second-team defense.

``He sent us the message that if we want to be the best, that was not the way to get it done. And that message was received loud and clear.''

The sun-splashed, overflow crowd - estimated in excess of 10,000 - at Eastern Washington University's Woodward Field was the largest camp followers could remember for the annual event. Holmgren grabbed a microphone before the last series to thank the throng.

``Keep the faith. We have to play one more game next season,'' he said in reference to the Seahawks' Super Bowl loss to Pittsburgh in February.

League MVP Shaun Alexander watched from the sidelines wearing full pads but a white, team cap rather than a helmet. Fellow Pro Bowl player Mack Strong, Alexander's blocking back, and starting receiver Bobby Engram watched with him.

``I didn't want to get those guys hurt,'' Holmgren said after the apparently injury-free day. ``Anyway, they're our Pro Bowl guys. I know what they can do.''

Safety Ken Hamlin, returning from the fractured skull and blood clot near his brain sustained in an October street fight, did not engage in his first contact of camp. Hamlin, nicknamed ``The Hammer'' for his big hits over his first three years with the team, was near a tackle by linebacker Leroy Hill and blitzed past a running play.

Hamlin said his first tackle likely won't come until the exhibition games begin. Seattle's first is Aug. 12 against Dallas.

``I'm not full throttle,'' Hamlin said. ``I really can't go all out against my teammates.''

Holmgren said these first weeks of camp is good for Hamlin ``to get the rust off.'' Holmgren added the only way he can get Hamlin to avoid contact all preseason is to not play him.

``He's got to play,'' Holmgren said.

Many of Hasselbeck's seven incompletions came because no receivers were open - the same problem quarterbacks had all week against the revamped, faster defense.

Offseason acquisition Julian Peterson continued his dynamic debut. The former two-time Pro Bowl linebacker sped all over the field, making plays on one screen pass near the line and on two long runs into the secondary. He also rushed the passer as a defensive end on third downs.

On one, tipped pass in the short flat from backup Seneca Wallace, Peterson leaped high, as if he was grabbing a basketball rebound. He briefly snared a would-be interception before second-team runner Marquis Weeks knocked it from his hands.

Peterson tore his left Achilles' tendon in October 2004. Doctors told him it would take 20 months to be fully recovered.

``What do you think? I think I looked pretty good out there,'' Peterson said, slightly annoyed the subject came up again.

``On that one pass, I felt like I haven't gotten that high in a long time ... No worries at all. I felt like my old self.''

Holmgren's worries continued.

Fumbles, dropped passes and missed assignments have caused a grouchy Holmgren to at times threaten to cut players on the spot during the opening week if they didn't get it right.

On Saturday, Holmgren had other issues - including more with his assistant coaches. A day before, he barked at them in the middle of the practice field after he booted the players.

``We've got a long ways to go,'' Holmgren said. ``I was unhappy with the coaches' discipline on the sideline, our substitution, because that's practice for them getting ready for the game. We got to do it right ... but that is what this is about.''

I find it pretty peculiar that the NFC champs/Super bowl contender's have the second amount of posts on the team talk forum.

Do most people still view the hawks as a fluke?
