The Ravens have been mentioned by some national publications and Web sites as a potential alternative if the Packers tell Brett Favre to stay retired. They lost Steve McNair to retirement and are faced with some difficult choices as they prepare to open training camp. Favre, theoretically, would give them an elite short-term quarterback and serve as a perfect mentor for QB-in-waiting Joe Flacco. The Ravens have legitimate concerns about the viability of Kyle Boller and Troy Smith, but they have installed a new coach and a new offensive coordinator and appear to be in the midst of a dynamic transition that could be sidetracked if the team gave into the temptation to go for a quick fix behind center. (Baltimore Sun)

Could someone post a link to the sound bite of Brett Favre actually saying that he wants to come back and that he would entertain all of these crazy options? Because until I hear it from him, this is nothing more than newspaper filler and blogger fodder to keep us interested during the most boring stint of the sports year. Once training camps start, if Favre doesn't show and start making demands, this conversation will be over. It's at the point that I can't even stand to watch SportsCenter and NFL Total Access because it's all they talk about. Get over it! (not you dznutz)

Can we just create a Favre psuedo-retirement thread and sticky it so that in the next 2 months we can generate 70 pages of asinine rumor and un-solicited opinion?

Would save a few bytes on the server.

P.S. The guy in the cube across the hall heard from his baby-momma's brother's parole officer that Favre was going to go to Seattle for a Holmgren reunion.

I think he would be a better fit in Carolina then Baltimore.

Stop the presses...

The Toronto Star is reporting the Brett Favre is in talks with the Toronto Argonauts to make a potential return to the gridiron in the CFL. Toronto has already been dealing with a quarterback controversy in recent weeks between Michael Bishop and Kerry Joseph. Now, with Michael Bishop seemingly put on waivers as one way of dealing with the controversy, Brett Favre's name has been popping up in conversations as another potential outlet for the Argos.

I have to believe Favre wants to come back because he wants to win.....not simply to play for a team which is in a high risk of not even having a winning record.

Let it die. If he comes back great, though highly unlikely. I think there is a small chance of Favre coming back but if he does it will be with the Packers or no one.

Doesn't Green Bay retain his rights? So, he can't come back unless they let him, correct?

I keep imagining him in Minnesota, I know Green Bay will never let that happen!

But he is what that team need to make a serious run at a Super Bowl, Great defense, excellent running game, fantastic O-Line, all they need is a QB that can open the filed up and make the offense 2 dimensional!

Minny would be his best bet!

I'll believe it when he steps on the field for the first snap in week one. Until then I'm skeptical at the very least.

Edit: Favres going to do what he wants to do. Last season all the azzhats...erm...experts where saying he could play another 2-3 years, and because of the great year he had there was no way he was going to hang up the cleats. He did.
Now they're all saying he's 80% likely (Kirwans a douche) to play this season. No matter what it comes down to, he's going to do what he wants to do. Whether that be tractor racing with Randy Moss or playing football, we'll see come week 1.

Take it for what it's worth, but this just showed up on ESPN:

[quote]
HATTIESBURG, Miss -- Three days after a conference call with Green Bay Packers team officials on Tuesday in which quarterback Brett Favre emphatically expressed his desire to play in 2008, Favre on Friday formally asked for his contractual release from the Packers in a letter, sources close to Favre and the team said.

The letter was sent by Favre's agent, James "Bus" Cook, via overnight mail on Thursday and arrived at the Packers facility Friday morning.

Favre
Cook, on behalf of Favre, expressed a desire to have an amicable parting, as the Packers have been reluctant to embrace his return. Favre announced his retirement in early March.

This is all rumor, and merging every Favre thread doesn't make sense, so off we go...
