This is a FULL SEASON CONTEST and requires a one-time, up front entry fee of s$2500.

Prior to the Daytona 500, Sharks wishing to participate need to claim their favorite drivers. Each driver can only be chosen once though; see list at bottom of this post of drivers already reserved/claimed. Sign-ups will close at the drop of the green flag of the Daytona 500; 12 PM, 2/26/2012

There are 5 mandatory, full-participation points events (list below), plus the All-Star Race:
The Daytona 500, Coke 600, and Brickyard 400 are widely considered NASCAR's "Triple Crown".
The inclusion of a short track and road course event is for 'balance' amongst the field.

1) Daytona 500 : 2/26/2012, 12 PM
x) All-Star Race @ Charlotte : 5/19/2012, 7 PM
2) Coca-Cola 600 @ Charlotte : 5/27/2012, 5:30 PM
3) Brickyard 400 @ Indianapolis : 7/29/2012, 12 PM
4) Sprint Cup Series at The Glen @ Watkins Glen : 8/12/2012, 12 PM
5) Irwin Tools Night Race @ Bristol: 8/25/2012, 7:00 PM

These 6 events will carry a heavier payout than the others.
For Daytona, NASCAR's "Super Bowl", each entry will have s$250 deducted from the initial 2500.
For the All-Star race, s$150 each.
For the remaining 4 special events, s$100 each.

Beyond these 6 events, each participant will enter 20 more. (s$60 each event; total of s$1200)
The other 20 events can all be picked up front or week-to-week, up to the green flag of each race. Once an event is selected, however, your driver is LOCKED IN, no backing out. Failure to enter any race on time will count as one of that participants' 11 passes. Likewise, if the number of remaining races equals the number of races a participant needs to enter, they will automatically be entered into all of those races.

The Shark whose driver finishes ahead of all other drivers entered for each event will receive the full sand payout for that event. Besides the 6 full participation events, the weekly payouts will vary depending on the number of entries for that race.

Every race you enter your driver in, you earn the points that your driver earned for that race.
Points earned will be based on the official scoring at NASCAR.com and will include bonus points for 1 lap lead and most laps lead.

BONUS: We will also award 2 bonus points for Pole Positions earned in qualifying.
HOWEVER!... to earn the Pole Position bonus points, you must commit to the week's event PRIOR TO the first practice for that week. This means you can't watch practice and know your driver is running laps half a second faster than everybody else and then decide to enter for the week and get the bonus. If you enter after practice has started, you will get any other points your driver earns, but will be ineligible for the qualifying bonus.
*No qualifying bonus for Daytona due to the elaborate, week long qualifying procedure*

NEW FOR 2012:
Each participant will have available to them 1 "mulligan", but there will be a fee to use it.
In the event that a Shark enters his/her driver in a race and is dissatisfied with the points earned, they may choose to drop that race and enter another FUTURE one. The driver will lose any points earned for that week, including pole award, but will NOT be refunded their sand dollar entry fee. This is so the winner for that week retains their full prize. However, an additional s$60 will be required to enter the additional race. Again, this is a ONE TIME PER SHARK PER SEASON option.

At the conclusion of the season, there will be s$500 left from each entry, the sum of which will be divided amongst our top 3 points earners.
1st: 60%
2nd: 25%
3rd: 15%

NOTE: The final standings for this contest will be based on points accumulated in the races entered and points accumulated in this format, they will most likely NOT be a mirror of the NASCAR standings. Also, there is no points reset when "The Chase" begins.

New and returning sharks; please note the list of temp'ly reserved drivers...

This is the list of participants and their chosen drivers from the 2011 season.
These will be 'held' until midnight Sunday, 2/19. At 12:01 am on 2/20, they will be available for public claim.

So if you're returning and want your same driver from last year, speak up now and get sand over to me ASAP please.

If you're NEW and want one of the reserved drivers, post in this thread. If/when the drivers are released, they will go to the first shark that staked their claim. Don't go down a list though, please... keep the spirit of the contest in mind; it's the FAVORITE Driver Challenge, not FAVORED Driver Challenge.

Any driver not already listed in the first post is available for immediate claim. I recommend picking an available driver first, and if your #1 favorite is already taken, post who you would like should they become available.

So be sure to come back Monday and see how the cards fall...

For example (but also officially):
I'm picking Brad Keselowski from the available drivers.
But on the slim chance msiedel does not wish to return with the 88 this year, I will send 'Bad Brad' back to the pool and ride with Dale Jr.
