the problem for dudes is that its written by a woman. in the sci-fi/fantasy genre, i am under the impression that women are able to weave TREMENDOUS stories that really grab you and then at the end just crap all over the story. i feel that this is because a good ending isn't necessary to most women. they just want the emotional highs and lows of the journey to get there.

now men are just as capable of awful endings (see cormac mccarthy) but it just seems the norm for me when i see a woman author.

I tried to make it through Hunger Games on the internet. I found myself skipping forward to when the actual battle starts. From the parts I saw it was decent enough, but nothing overly impressive where I thought WOW GREAT MOVIE! I can see where the tweens will eat it up, but most adults I would understand if boredom started to seep in.

Stanley Tucci was the best character by far.

Real Steel. I went into it with low expectations and cynicism. It was actually pretty entertaining. Well worth $1 to rent.

Yea, it was surprisingly a pretty good "popcorn" movie. My 8yr old daughter enjoyed it as well.

So I watched The Descendants last night.

I loved it. I thought it was very well done, great writing and acting. And while the premise is a bit of a downer (Clooney is trying to find his coma wife's lover) I laughed out loud more than a few times.

I also checked out "30 Minutes or Less" this weekend.

I was looking for a light hearted action comedy and that's exactly what I got. It was a lot better than I anticipated. I was happy to see that Danny McBride was a central figure to the film. I assumed his participation was minimal. Aziz Arnisi (sp?) was hilarious as usually and Micheal Pena is one of my favorite bit actors and he comes through yet again.

Definitely worth the rent.

Anybody watch either of the newer St. Trinian's flicks?

I found both to be fun watches and I imagine they are safe as family flicks, plus you can't beat hot English chicks school uniforms.

The movie series goes back to the '50. The cartoon they are based on was created before WWII, then the author spent some gruling time in Japanese POW camps. His post war work became pretty dark and skewed, which gives the movies their shady edge.
