Whether you agree or disagree that this was a smart signing, them's the facts. Can you blame Forte for saying if Lynch is worth that, wth am I worth?

CLE has plenty of cap space, picks for ammo to get him and he would instantly legitamize their offense. So if the Bears are willing to let him sit out and feel they have options that still make their offense effective, why not trade him and get what you can?

And teachers and firemen should make more than anyone.

I didn't realize we were going to determine people's salaries on what's deemed 'fair'. Since when did the NFL become pee wee girls' soccer?

As I indicated, the Bears hold just about all the cards.

Forte's only leverage is to sit out a part of the NFL season in which really isn't that much leverage as the Bears can turn around and franchise him again in 2013 or let him walk and get a compensatory pick (say a rd 3) pick which is probably a round below what they can get now.

At the moment, Forte is hosed if he doesn't sign a LT deal with the Bears.

i don't blame them for trying to get more. They touch the ball far more then any other offensive producer minus the QB. Its just reality. Once under the present cap a player seeks 20 mill + IMO there are a douchebag. they are stealing from there union brothers. Under 20 mill go for it.

also teachers are over paid. Fireman I got no clue. I thought they worked for chili. hookers are overpaid also. They should work on volume more then margin.

Forte doesn't legitimize Cleveland's offense, unless he's going to line up at receiver.

For what it's worth, Bears fans are really split on Forte.

There are a lot who are saying open up the vault and give him whatever it takes. There are a lot who are at the him point.

I'm more moderate on the issue, I feel for him because he's earned it, but the reality of most RBs is that they do their best running before they're paid, for a multitude of reasons, and he's just not in a great spot. The numbers just aren't on his side either. If he wants 7 mil per year (or more), the Bears can get him for that under the franchise tag without any worry about long-term liability. He wants long-term security, but in order do get that he needs to take less short-term for more long-term. He wants both, and the numbers just don't play out from the Bears' perspective.

The Bears don't have a ton of contract year guys, but they do have quite a few in 2013 (Angelo and Lovie's contracts went/go through 2013, so a lot of guys are set to expire there), so I'm sure they're aware with guys like Cutler, Hester, Urlacher, Tillman, and less notable starters Melton, Moore, Roach all up for new deals in the next two years, I'm sure they're watching that cap number closely. Giving Forte what he wants means letting some of those guys go, and RB just isn't that important.

CLE has pick #4 in the draft. I agree they need a WR threat, but they can have their pick of the bunch at that point. That would go a long way toward giving McCoy some weapons he desperately needs.



Not disregarding the rest of your post, some excellent points and you know the situation much better then me, but I disagree with this. A lot of teams would improve dramatically with a 3 down, multi dimensional, effective RB. They are not that easy to find and I just think Forte has proven he's a good one.

Both Cleveland and Pittsburgh would prefer the draft route, if either screw up it's possible but given the volume of talent available I doubt that happens.

Both teams seem happy with one of the top 4, Cleveland would consider a 1-2 punch of LMJ/Pead and Turbin/Pierce if they miss the top 4, and Pittsburgh seems most interested in Pead as plan B.

The D was much more effective, and Starks gave them a spark at RB they didn't have this year.
