2 more bombs yesterday.... 20 for the year. Supposedly the Marlins president was on hand to check him out... Hopefully a callup is imminent.

I know my keeper team could use the jolt.

I think its gonna happen in the next few weeks... of course I thought that when he went on a tear about a month ago. Maybin and Coghlan and heating up a bit and Ross is doing fine. Even if he does get called up, I don't see them demoting any of those guys unless they start to slow down again. I'm guessing you'll see a platoon with Ross or Coghlan.

I mean... Stanton isn't a guy that's gonna hit for a high average and on a Marlins team that already strikes out A TON that's not helping anybody. He adds power and a middle of the lineup presence and projects to be the prototypical RF if memory serves. So that leads me to think he'll platoon with the weaker of the hitters or someone will get demoted and he'll play every day... for this year anyway. I don't think you're gonna see a Jason Heyward type impact, but I do think he'll give you a decent amount of HRs (with the accompanying awful SO rate) once he's called up.

Florida is targeting early next week to promote Stanton, FoxSports's Ken Rosenthal reports.

It's a keeper league. if he can match miguel cabrera's 20 yo season, i'll be happy (.270~, 20 bombs, 4/1 k/bb ratio)... if he matches or exceeds that, i'll be extatic. As for florida, their outfield is their weaker hitters. Ross will play center when Stanton plays right, Maybin will play center when Stanton plays left.. or at least that is what i've read. So essentially Maybin and Coghlan will platoon at least until (if??) the Marlins can ship Uggla and Coglhan can go back to his natural position of 2b. We'll see. I don't have much else to be excited about with that team right now... hence my man crush on Stanton.

i think his floor is high... he's going to hit bombs and take walks and K... i think he can produce with adam dunn and mark reynolds as a worst case, and he has a ceiling as high as any prospect in baseball. we'll see... im pumped.

I've got him slightly below Heyward/Strasburg future hype and I'm a little worried the Marlins are rushing him, but the potential is certainly there. Of course, how many Marlins prospects had massive unfulfilled potential and failed miserably at the major league level in the last 5-10 years?

I watched Stanton 4-5 times last year here in Jax and 3 times this year.

Biggest difference.

He can hit a curve now and his plate discipline has improved immensley

This kid will hit 20 bombs rest of way and hit atleast .270.

i fully expect him to see nothing but breaking stuff until he proves he can crush them... i'll wear out the remote tonight going back and forth between the marlins and nats.

3-5 with a KO and 2 runs. 2 infield hits, both runs scored from first. Nice wheels for a huge man. I'll be glued to his AB's against halladay tonight to see how he fairs against an elite arm.

6'5 240lbs and he is not old enough to drink yet (turns 21 later this yr I think)

Scary to think he is not even "man strong" yet.

Definitely overshadowed by Strasburg's first week, but all in all I liked what I saw from Stanton. He faced tough pitchers every time out except in his debut against Kendrick, managed to hit .370 and drive in 4 in his first 19 ab's. Showed impressive speed for a guy that is frank thomas size by stealing a couple and scoring from first on a couple of extra base hits. He gets a couple of lefties this week at home.... hopefully the homer barrage begins tomorrow.

well the big guy has hit his bumps in the road, but has been on an absolute tear lately... he seems to be making progress every week in terms of pitch identification... his walks are up, his k's have been down and he's been hitting moonshots.. Numbers compared to Heywards thus far.

Player Compare Year to Date MLB Standard Stats
Player AB R H 1B 2B 3B HR RBI BB KO SB CS BA OBP SLG
Heyward, Jason RF ATL 348 55 90 52 23 3 12 51 57 88 8 5 0.2586 0.3729 0.4454
Stanton, Michael RF FLA 196 29 53 23 15 1 14 39 23 68 4 0 0.2704 0.3455 0.5714
